Yama's Wedding
Since a direct approach would only harm Yao Guang, he had to find another way.
Yao Guang felt the cold blade of the national master pressed against his neck, rendering him speechless. Anger simmered within him; originally, Xue could easily handle this national master. The unfortunate part was that he had become a burden to Xue. It was his own fault for letting his guard down when he saw Xue dealing with the national master so effortlessly. In a moment of distraction, he had fallen into the national master's trap. Yao Guang couldn't believe that a dignified Star Lord like himself was now at the mercy of such a shameless person.
Watching the national master gloat and threaten Xue made Yao Guang particularly uncomfortable. He hadn’t expected this man to be not only low in magical prowess but also narrow-minded. The moment he noticed Xue ignoring him, he sought to eliminate them both. How could someone like this be worthy of being a national master? But then, considering that Mo Yi was also the Third Prince of this country, Yao Guang began to understand a little better.
Being under the national master's control left Xue in a passive position. Yao Guang needed to think of a way out; things couldn’t continue like this.
Out of the corner of his eye, Yao Guang spotted Xue, who seemed to have come up with a good idea. He noticed that while Xue still appeared tense, there was a newfound calmness about him that hadn’t been there before. Had Xue figured something out?
Taking advantage of the national master's momentary madness, Xue discreetly signaled Yao Guang with his eyes. Having been focused on Xue since earlier, Yao Guang didn’t miss any of his gestures and quickly understood what Xue meant.
"I want all your cultivation," the national master threatened as he pressed his sword harder against Yao Guang's throat. "Otherwise, I will let her die right in front of you." Losing patience with Xue’s silence, he thought that if he could absorb this man's magical power, he would surely ascend to immortality and escape this mundane existence filled with suffering and death. He had had enough of life as a mortal; becoming an immortal was his greatest dream. The sight of the magical energy surrounding Xue made the national master yearn for it desperately.
His heart raced with excitement as his hands trembled; he was captivated by the golden light surrounding Xue and longed to possess it.
Time was running out. Observing the national master's current state, Xue reminded himself to seize this opportunity without making any mistakes.
His loose robes concealed the preparations he had made behind his back.
Now was the moment. In an instant, a bolt of azure lightning shot toward the national master.
As the lightning struck, Xue concentrated all his magical energy into himself and rapidly increased his speed.
In a flash, Xue transformed into a beam of golden light racing toward where Yao Guang and the national master stood, just as the lightning arrived and struck directly at the national master.
A piercing scream erupted from the national master; it turned out that this lightning could not only take lives but also ensnare souls within its grasp. He cried out in agony as he was struck by the bolt, and in the next moment, silence fell. When the lightning dissipated, Yao Guang and Xue looked toward where the national master had stood.
What had once been level ground now bore a massive crater from where the lightning had struck.
"Is he dead?" Yao Guang asked nervously.
Xue gazed at the spot where smoke still lingered and focused intently. "No, not yet."
"How could this be?" Yao Guang was taken aback. How could it be that even the lightning did not kill the National Master?
As the smoke cleared, a man walked out from within it. Yao Guang focused his gaze and realized that this person was indeed the National Master, who had already been struck by lightning.
"Was he not hit?" Seeing that the National Master was still alive, Yao Guang felt it was unbelievable.
"National Master." Mo Yi watched the astonishing scene beside him. Indeed, the National Master was like an immortal. He had clearly seen the lightning strike the National Master, but now it seemed that the National Master was still alive and well. If he wasn't an immortal, then what was he?
"One thought becomes a demon." Xue muttered as he looked at the now demonic National Master.
Hearing Xue's words, Yao Guang scrutinized him closely. Sure enough, she noticed something different about the National Master compared to before. Although Yao Guang had never particularly liked this National Master, there had been a trace of the aura that a cultivator should possess. But now, it seemed that he was completely shrouded in darkness. Yao Guang couldn't discern what that black aura was; it simply felt very uncomfortable.
While Yao Guang couldn't see through it, Xue could clearly see that the black aura surrounding him was made up of the restless souls he had once contained within himself.
It appeared that one strike of lightning had released all those souls trapped inside him in an instant. These souls had helped him bear the force of the lightning, but because he had killed too many people, they had been suppressed within his body through his cultivation. Now, after that lightning strike, he could no longer contain their curses.
"Hahaha! Not even lightning can harm me! I wonder what you can do to me now," the National Master said arrogantly as he looked at Xue and Yao Guang.
At this moment, Xue glanced at the increasingly deranged National Master and no longer wished to look at him again. Instead, he focused on healing Yao Guang's wound on her neck with great care. "Does it still hurt?"
A cool sensation flowed through Yao Guang as she realized that Xue had healed her wound. Watching Xue's relaxed demeanor, she found a comfortable position in his embrace while keeping her eyes on the National Master.
"On the brink of death and still unrepentant," the National Master coldly observed their interaction.
"Who is on the brink of death?" Yao Guang felt extremely comfortable in Xue's arms and kindly reminded the man before her.
Xue gently kissed Yao Guang, and it seemed she understood what was happening in front of them.
Mo Yi felt a pang of bitterness as he watched their affectionate exchange. His gaze shifted to Jun Ruo, who lay on the ground after suffering a heavy blow. Mo Yi felt a mix of emotions; his legs felt as if they were weighed down and heavy as he tried to step toward Jun Ruo. He didn't understand why they felt so heavy that after a brief glance at Jun Ruo, he turned away. This version of Jun Ruo was not something Mo Yi wanted to see at this moment.
Jun Ruo saw the affection between Xue and Yao Guang and felt desolate inside. She struggled to turn her head slightly toward Mo Yi's direction but saw that he wouldn't even glance at her; instead, he fixed his gaze on the National Master ahead. Xiao Junru, what are you still hoping for? Do you still expect this man to look at you? Have you forgotten your deep-seated blood feud? Have you forgotten how your brothers died? With these thoughts swirling in her mind, all that remained in Jun Ruo's eyes when she looked at Mo Yi was hatred.
"Hahaha! I forgive your words since you are about to die," said the National Master, who seemed to be in an exceptionally good mood after experiencing the lightning.
"I think you should take a good look at what you've become," Xue said coolly as he sized up the National Master with a mocking smile.
The National Master was taken aback by the words, but quickly regained his composure and coldly snorted, "I am the chosen one of this nation; my fate is destined for greatness."
"Oh? Then why are you afraid to see what kind of monster you have become?"
"No, it’s impossible. I am destined to become an immortal; no, it can’t be." The National Master was forced back step by step by Xue's words. He was not without feelings; just moments ago, when he released the restless spirits from his body, he sensed an aura that was different from his own cultivation surrounding him, gradually eroding his originally pure magical power and replacing it with a stench of decay.
In this lifetime, he could never become an immortal unless he truly abandoned his cultivation. How could he bear to give up his pure cultivation? He had always been intelligent and had been greatly hoped for by his master. When his master passed away, he had once told him that with his talent, he would surely become the most successful disciple in their sect. He had always obediently followed the ancestral cultivation methods, yet it was precisely not meant to be for him. His fellow disciples had successively become semi-immortals, while he remained outside the door, struggling to enter. Thus, he began to seek alternative methods, raising his cultivation higher and higher, yet still unable to achieve immortality. He did not understand why it was him, why it had to be him who could not succeed!
He knew that just moments ago, he could never become an immortal, but these two people—damn them!
The National Master wore a fierce expression; even though he was unwilling to admit it, that bolt of lightning had not taken his life but had obliterated all his hard work in this lifetime—he had lost everything.
"It’s you! It’s you! It’s all of you who have turned me into this! You deserve to die!" The demonic energy around the National Master surged with his rage as he gathered immense dark energy in his hands, ready to strike at Xue and Yao Guang.
"Overestimating yourself." Xue flicked his sleeve, and a beam of golden light shot towards the National Master, striking him down into the ground instantly.
"What is happening?" The National Master asked in terror. Just moments ago, he had clearly gathered his magical power; how could he be so easily struck down by Xue's golden light?
"Look at that dark energy; isn’t it your magical power?" Xue gazed at the incredulous National Master with pity. This kind of human was truly pathetic; for the sake of his own selfish desires, he had allowed himself to become something neither human nor ghost, neither immortal nor demon. (To be continued.)
