Yama's Wedding
Shu was noncommittal as he picked up the chopsticks from the table and looked down at the dishes laid out before him. Although the meal was not particularly lavish, it was a heartfelt gesture from Yao Guang. Despite being an immortal, Shu did not have a strong preference for earthly food, but knowing that Yao Guang had prepared this meal with his own hands made even the simplest fare seem as exquisite as delicacies from the mountains and seas. To avoid wasting Yao Guang's efforts, Shu picked up his bowl and began to eat heartily. The rice was not made from traditional grains but rather from corn kernels that had been ground into flour, sifted, steamed, and then pounded into shape. While it lacked the refinement of white rice, its coarse texture was complemented by the natural fragrance of corn, offering a unique flavor.
To Shu's surprise, a simple bowl of corn rice turned out to be so delicious. Initially intending to just eat casually in front of Yao Guang, he found himself enjoying the meal more and more with each bite. Especially when paired with wild vegetables gathered from the mountains, it created an aromatic delight.
Seeing Shu eat with such enthusiasm brought joy to Yao Guang's heart. He could tell that Shu's enjoyment was genuine; he truly liked the food here. Anyone who cooks hopes that those who eat their meals will appreciate their efforts. Although Yao Guang spent most of his time as an immortal, this sentiment was no different from that of any ordinary person.
Xue sat nearby, slowly savoring his own meal. The flavors of earthly dishes could only be fully appreciated when eaten slowly. Unlike Shu, Xue had consumed plenty of human food over the years. He recalled his first experience eating here, which mirrored Shu's current reaction perfectly. During his first meal with Yao Guang, he had suffered from an upset stomach due to years of abstaining from food, leading to several embarrassing trips to the restroom—an incident that Yao Guang had teased him about for quite some time. Now watching Shu eat like this, Xue felt somewhat amused; as the Greedy Wolf Star Lord, Shu likely ate very little on a regular basis, and such a sudden feast might lead to a similar outcome as Xue's first experience.
With a smile on his face, Xue watched Shu and occasionally added more dishes to his bowl.
Poor Shu was completely unaware that he had become Xue's target; he thought Xue was simply sharing in his enjoyment by piling food onto his plate.
Yao Guang looked at the two of them with delight and joined in on the meal with great happiness.
Thus, dinner proceeded joyfully among the three of them.
However, after dinner, it wasn't long before Shu began to feel unwell. Due to Xue's generous servings earlier, most of the meal had ended up in Shu's stomach, resulting in a much stronger reaction than what Xue had experienced years ago.
Yao Guang watched as Shu rushed repeatedly to the restroom and asked worriedly, "Big Brother, are you okay?"
At that moment, Shu could only suffer in silence within the restroom, unable to leave even for a moment.
Xue watched Shu from the side, secretly feeling pleased. People are like that; when they have been laughed at by others for their mistakes, they hope to see someone else make the same blunder.
"It's fine, just let me be alone here for a while," Shu gritted his teeth and said from inside. He blamed himself for being too greedy earlier; if it weren't for that, he wouldn't be in such pain now.
"Alright then, big brother, take care of yourself," Yao Guang said, knowing that Shu must feel embarrassed with both him and Xue watching. Besides, Yao Guang had more important matters to attend to tonight. With Shu in this inconvenient state, Yao Guang could handle things without worrying about being interrupted.
"Okay, big brother, I'll take Xue out for a stroll and be back soon. Just take care of yourself," Yao Guang reminded him with concern.
At that moment, Shu wished fervently for Yao Guang and Xue to leave quickly. If it were just Yao Guang, it would be fine, but having the Underworld's Wheel King present made it all the more embarrassing. Shu certainly didn't want Xue to witness his humiliation.
Yao Guang could only go out for a walk with Xue.
For some reason, since they stepped outside, Xue seemed unhappy. He had been so cheerful during dinner, and Yao Guang couldn't figure out what was bothering him. This gloomy demeanor was not conducive to what Yao Guang wanted to accomplish tonight.
"Xue, what's wrong?" After thinking for a moment, Yao Guang decided he needed to ask Xue directly about his troubles.
Xue felt uneasy inside. He had also experienced stomach issues after eating, just like Shu did. However, Yao Guang seemed to treat them differently. While Shu received comfort from Yao Guang earlier, Xue felt slighted and a bit jealous of the concern directed at Shu. Although he understood that Shu was Yao Guang's older brother and deserved care, it still left him feeling unhappy.
"Nothing..." Xue replied evasively.
"Clearly something is bothering you. Come on, let me hear it," Yao Guang pressed on. Xue's previous words were obviously insincere; his gloomy expression was written all over his face, making it impossible for Yao Guang not to inquire further.
"When I had stomach issues before, you weren't this considerate," Xue said with a look of grievance. It felt unfair that despite their similar situations, Yao Guang's attitude was so different. Xue believed that even if their statuses were different in Yao Guang's eyes, the disparity in treatment was still too great.
"Ha, so that's why you're acting like this," Yao Guang said with a laugh, looking at Xue. After all these years, it was amusing to see that Xue could still get jealous over something so trivial, especially when the object of his jealousy was his own brother.
"Because you are my husband, the closest person to me in this world, so there's no need for us to be polite with each other," Yao Guang said with a bright smile directed at Xue.
In that moment, Xue doubted whether he had heard correctly. It was the first time in all these years that Yao Guang had called him "husband."
"W-what did you just call me?" Xue stammered.
"Husband, husband, you are my husband," Yao Guang repeated cheerfully, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Xue. (To be continued.)
