Upon hearing this, the Jade Emperor turned to Shu Xing Jun and asked, "My dear ministers, what do you think of this matter?"
Shu glanced at the celestial being who had just spoken and then at the Big Dipper Seventh Star, who were secretly watching them. The celestial being who had just come up with a clever idea was feeling quite pleased with himself. However, when Shu's gaze swept over him, he felt exposed, as if all his thoughts were laid bare before that person. Although it was merely a fleeting glance, it felt as though he could see through everything. Even with his immortal body, he felt a slight chill creeping up his spine.
Shu withdrew his gaze from that individual. He had only looked at him briefly, his expression neither sad nor happy. Turning back to answer the Jade Emperor's earlier question, he said, "I have no objections."
His cold words revealed no emotion, sounding like a routine response. He neither expressed dissatisfaction with the earlier celestial being nor showed any tension regarding the impending war between the court and the Dragon Clan.
It seemed as though this question was merely a casual inquiry from the Emperor, and Shu's response was equally casual.
Such an expression left the celestial beings who had felt somewhat guilty feeling even more frustrated. How dare Shu Xing Jun speak to the Emperor in such a detached manner?
Listening to Shu Xing Jun's reply from his throne, the Jade Emperor couldn't help but feel both amused and exasperated. The Big Dipper Seventh Star was indeed loyal to him; however, their unyielding demeanor made him quite uncomfortable. After all, unlike those who had recently ascended to godhood, the Big Dipper Seventh Star did not seek favor or flatter him. They lived without needing to curry favor or watch others' expressions because they had always existed alongside the earth. Even the Jade Emperor could not easily execute them unless they committed a grave mistake. Yet even then, new Big Dipper Seventh Stars would emerge without needing to undergo reincarnation; they formed their own realm. Perhaps it was precisely because of this that the Star Lord of the Big Dipper appeared out of place in court, with Star Lord Yao Guang being the most prominent example.
The celestial beings present were all cultivated from mortals; even after their transformation, they retained some human emotions deep within. Thus, they had long found the cold demeanor of the Big Dipper Seventh Stars unappealing.
As a result, another celestial being stepped forward in the originally peaceful hall and addressed the Jade Emperor: "As members of this court, we must stand together in times of crisis to defend order and uphold our principles. However, Shu Xing Jun's earlier words give no indication of his love for our court. Now that war with the Dragon Clan is imminent, we merely hope that the Star Lords will lend their assistance. Yet it seems that they wish to remain indifferent while allowing that Demon Dragon to wreak havoc. Is it possible that Star Lord Yao Guang's situation has led to discontent among the Big Dipper Seventh Stars towards you and our court?"
These words were quite impolite. The celestial general spoke passionately and indignantly in the hall. Anyone unaware of the situation might think that the Big Dipper Seventh Stars truly harbored rebellious intentions since they answered the Emperor's questions with such indifference.
However, these remarks sounded deeply ironic in Yao Guang's ears. Since the establishment of the court, the Big Dipper Seventh Stars had repeatedly aided the Jade Emperor in quelling rebellions. Even during those early days when demons roamed freely among mortals, if not for their voluntary descent to assist humanity, it was likely that mankind would have been destroyed at its inception. It should be noted that those demons were incredibly powerful at that time. Although many were eliminated during battles across the five realms, numerous others escaped from their nets within the court. The Big Dipper Seventh Stars spent a century subduing demons among mortals; every time they returned to court, they came and went in haste—so much so that even during celebratory feasts, their seven figures were nowhere to be seen. Conversely, it was those celestial beings who had done nothing who sat in court feasting heartily.
Moreover, due to their excessive use of magic while battling demons and monsters on earth, it took them a long time before they could restore their diminished powers upon returning to court. Yet who cared about this? Who ever noticed? The stars of the Big Dipper spent a century ridding humanity of demons and returned only to seclude themselves for half a year to recover their nearly extinguished powers through diligent practice. The celestial beings believed themselves superior in magical prowess; no matter how difficult a task was assigned to them, they thought it would be easy for them. But no one knew that even Star Lords were only slightly more skilled than them; throughout eternity, they had diligently cultivated their abilities to achieve such mastery.
Yet even these skills could not be displayed before others because fate dictated everything in an unseen cycle. One foot on earth and one foot on heaven bound the Big Dipper Seventh Stars firmly within court for millennia upon millennia amidst vast cosmic solitude—enduring endless loneliness. Who could truly understand such feelings?
"Anyone who has grievances against me, the Big Dipper Seventh Star, may go to the Jade Emperor and request to descend to capture that Demon Dragon!" A calm and steady voice echoed through the hall, and the celestial beings turned to see Wenquxing Jun from the Big Dipper Seventh Star.
Upon hearing Wenquxing Jun speak, Shu felt a sense of relief. If anyone in this court was skilled in verbal debate, it would undoubtedly be Wenquxing Jun. It was well known that among the ten talents, Wenquxing Jun would certainly rank among the top two.
"You..." The celestial being who had spoken earlier was now fuming with rage, his face contorted with anger. However, he realized that his previous words had indeed been aggressive. He glanced at Shu Xing, whose demeanor was less than eloquent, and thought to mock him in front of the other celestial beings to show the Jade Emperor that he cared for the court. But upon hearing Wenquxing Jun's words, he was rendered speechless. He couldn't possibly take the lead against the Demon Dragon; even if others were unaware, he knew his own limitations. Standing before the Demon Dragon would likely earn him not even a glance.
Wenqu observed the man's face twisting in frustration and smiled gracefully as he addressed the assembly of celestial beings. "We, the Big Dipper Seventh Star, seven brothers, have quelled demons in the mortal realm a century ago. Since then, our powers have diminished significantly. In this battle against the Demon Dragon, we are willing but lack sufficient strength. I hope all fellow celestial friends can show understanding so that we may demonstrate harmony and kinship within our court."
Kaiyang and Yaoguang watched Wenqu's refined demeanor and marveled at how his words could infuriate others so effectively. They noted how the expressions of the other deities shifted dramatically. Kaiyang and Yaoguang felt a sense of satisfaction and admiration for Wenqu; indeed, within the Big Dipper Seventh Star, only Wenqu could not be offended.
The Jade Emperor observed this scene with amusement; indeed, those from the Big Dipper Seventh Star were quite entertaining.
"Jade Emperor, please take note!" After delivering his remarks to the assembly of deities, Wenqu turned to bow respectfully to the Jade Emperor.
Ah, does this mean he wants me to take charge?
"Since that's the case, it is clear that the Star Lord of Big Dipper Seventh Star cannot lead our court into battle. Is there anyone else among the Celestial Assembly who wishes to volunteer?" Rain Butterfly looked at those remaining celestial beings who had remained silent and inquired with a smile while tapping rhythmically on the white jade table with one hand while propping up his chin with the other.
"We are incompetent; we are guilty." Upon hearing the Jade Emperor's words, those previously aggressive celestial beings knelt down one after another. Sending them to confront the Demon Dragon would be tantamount to seeking their own demise. Although deities are immortal, a war between gods and dragons could lead to their souls being scattered if they were careless—no matter what kind of deity they were. Even if one were a reincarnated Bodhisattva, they would be powerless in such a situation. They had worked hard to ascend to divinity and did not wish to ruin their cultivation so easily; it was better not to stick their necks out at this moment.
"A bunch of cowards," Kaiyang muttered angrily as he watched their fearful demeanor.
"Exactly," Yaoguang echoed Kaiyang's sentiments. He had entered this place filled with anger after hearing Wenqu's earlier remarks extinguish his fire. Now seeing these deities cowering in fear made it hard for him to recognize them as true celestial beings.
Kaiyang and Yao Guang's voices were not loud, but everyone in the grand hall was skilled in magic and naturally heard their words. The deities finally felt ashamed of their actions.
The Jade Emperor also caught the conversation between Yaoguang and Kaiyang. "Have I been too indulgent with you?" he said, a pressure from his authority enveloping the room. Yao Guang and Kaiyang felt a jolt in their hearts but dared not use their powers to resist; they could only endure it.
"Big Dipper Seventh Star, heed my command!" After watching the spectacle for so long, the Jade Emperor felt weary and decided to settle the matter quickly to avoid any unforeseen complications.
"We obey!" Shuh and Yao Guang quickly knelt down to receive the Jade Emperor's decree.
"Today, as war with the Dragon Clan approaches, I hereby command the Big Dipper Seventh Star to descend to the mortal realm, eliminate the traitorous Demon Dragon, and only then may you return."
"We accept the command and will not disappoint the Jade Emperor!" The resolute voices echoed throughout Lingxiao Palace.
Wenqu's earlier words were merely a retort against those deities. Now that the Jade Emperor had assigned them to deal with the traitorous Demon Dragon, the Big Dipper Seventh Star would surely not let him down.
After issuing his decree, the Jade Emperor flicked his yellow robe and left the hall.
The deities had intended to humiliate the Big Dipper Seventh Star today but ended up being outmaneuvered instead. With the Jade Emperor clearly favoring them, after he departed, these deities did not further trouble Shuh and his companions, as they found themselves powerless against them.
