Yama's Wedding
Was everything Xue had done just now in vain? Had Xue sacrificed his life for a single strike that still failed to harm the Dragon Lord before them? What did Xue's sacrifice mean then? What did the sacrifices of his Brothers mean?
Yao Guang couldn't understand why it was like this.
Was the gap between them truly so vast? They were all immortals, all cultivators, and his Brothers had not been in this world for any shorter time than the Dragon Lord. Even Xue was a powerful immortal, so why had they given their all only to achieve such a result?
Yao Guang felt a surge of frustration.
"Star Lord Yao Guang, let's retreat!" The soldiers looked at Yao Guang in despair. In that moment, six Star Lords and one King of the Underworld had fallen, yet they still hadn't defeated the Dragon Lord before them. The soldiers, already fearful, now lost their resolve entirely and only wished to retreat back to safety.
Hearing the cowardly words of the soldiers, Yao Guang felt her heart grow cold. Her Brothers and Xue had fought bravely to defeat the Dragon Lord, yet those they had protected were not seeking vengeance for their deaths; instead, they only wanted to flee out of fear of the Dragon Lord.
"No, I won't leave! You all are not allowed to leave!"
At Yao Guang's words, the soldiers erupted in outrage. Those who had been timid moments ago were now filled with anger.
"Why shouldn't we leave?!"
"If you can't defeat the Dragon Lord, how dare you stop us here? If you want to die, go ahead! We don't want to!"
"Exactly! What ability does this Star Lord have? Look! Aren't we just dying for nothing?"
These harsh words echoed in Yao Guang's ears as she raised her head to look at the soldiers. Each one stood tall in their shining armor, making her eyes ache with pain. Were these truly immortals? Were they really her fellow cultivators?
Accusations poured from their lips. At that moment, without the other six Star Lords or Xue, Yao Guang stood alone on the battlefield, facing a torrent of blame from the soldiers.
The soldiers no longer displayed fear on their faces when confronted by the Dragon Lord; instead, they looked at Yao Guang with disdain and mockery. Standing among them, Yao Guang felt as if she had returned to the days when she was endlessly ridiculed by those celestial beings. "Look at that calamity we’ve summoned!"
"As a calamity, how can you bear to stay in this ethereal court? If I were you, I would descend myself!"
These same words, these same expressions—these heartless celestial beings!
Yao Guang felt no anger left within her; the insults drowned her in numbness.
Was it just mockery? Was it just disdain? Was it merely them pointing fingers at her? She had experienced all of this before.
From the very beginning in the court, she had been bullied by various celestial beings. Even Comet often looked down on her and bullied her behind the scenes.
Back then, she always thought she could win everyone over, but no matter how hard she tried, those people simply did not like her. Perhaps it wasn't that they disliked her; it was just that the years in the court were unbearably dull. They desperately needed someone to humiliate and mock, someone to bring a bit of amusement to their monotonous lives. And she had merely been unfortunate enough to become that person.
Yao Guang stood there listening to their accusations, realizing that without Shu and Xue, she truly was nothing.
"I mean it; that Big Dipper Seventh Star deserves to die. With no profound spells, boasting in front of the Jade Emperor—wasn't that just for credit?" The captain spoke to his soldiers with conviction. He nodded deeply, indicating that his reasoning was sound.
The remaining soldiers echoed his words, continuously agreeing with him.
In the next moment, however, the captain's head completely detached from his body. His mouth, which had been speaking moments ago, fell silent as his body finally toppled forward after a long pause.
Blood gushed from him, splattering onto the faces of the soldiers across from him. The smiles on their faces turned into expressions of terror.
"You... you..."
The soldiers in the front row pointed in terror at Yao Guang, their mouths trembling without a word. It wasn't a lack of courage; it was simply that Yao Guang looked like a blood-soaked demon at that moment.
In her left hand, Yao Guang held the severed head of the soldier who had just died, the blood spraying out staining her dress red, making her appear even more otherworldly.
Listening to the stammering words of the soldiers before her, Yao Guang shook her left arm, and with a sound, the head turned to ashes.
Yao Guang lifted her head and looked at the soldiers, asking, "What did you just say?"
Her voice echoed as if it came from the depths of the Underworld, hollow and terrifying.
The soldiers had never seen Yao Guang like this before. Star Lord Yao Guang had always been the most insignificant presence in the court; any celestial being could insult her at will. It was only later, due to Shu Xing Jun's service to the Jade Emperor and his favor towards her, that their attitude towards Star Lord Yao Guang improved. Otherwise, with her timid and cowardly nature, she would have long been tormented beyond recognition by those celestial beings.
But now, what they saw in Star Lord Yao Guang was completely different from before; she resembled a demon's nightshade, drenched in blood.
"This is a demon! She has become a demon! Star Lord Yao Guang has actually turned into a demon!" one soldier shouted loudly, pointing at her. Everyone followed his finger to look at Yao Guang and discovered that her eyes were glowing red.
This was the mark of a demon. Everyone clearly remembered from the great war between gods and demons that one of the most typical features of demons was their crimson eyes.
The sight of those red irises sent chills down their spines. Yet now, Star Lord Yao Guang's eyes had also turned this way; she must have become a demon.
Although she was a celestial being, if her Inner Demon consumed her consciousness and took control of her, it would ruin her centuries of cultivation and lead her from divinity into the Demonic Path.
So she had truly become a demon? No wonder Yao Guang had felt an overwhelming force surging within her just moments ago. But what did it matter if she became a demon? She no longer cared whether she was divine or demonic; what mattered to her was what that soldier had said earlier. They could insult her all they wanted, but they absolutely could not insult her brothers and Xue!
If they hadn't protected themselves, how could they have survived? If it weren't for these Soldiers, how could anyone still be alive in this world? If it weren't for them, how could this group before her act so brazenly?
She had always hoped for peace in the world, but what was the result? The result was that her Brothers died before her eyes! The result was that her lover died to protect her! The result was that those who should have been at the forefront were now the ones who survived, cruelly mocking her!
Was this really the outcome she desired? Was this what she deserved? Why should it be so? It was just life, just principles; since fate had led her down this path, she would go against it.
Looking at the group of Soldiers who had just been so arrogant before her, now showing fear in their eyes, retreating in trembling fear, Yao Guang felt a surge of satisfaction. She realized that all her efforts to be good had been in vain. What had her years of retreat accomplished? If she hadn't been so cowardly, perhaps her Brothers and Xue wouldn't have left her.
Everything was her fault, but not anymore.
She would no longer compromise with these people; she would no longer let others dictate her fate. She would not obey this so-called destiny or principles; she wanted to survive and create her own world. She wanted revenge!
Revenge against Ting, revenge against Xia, revenge against everyone who had wronged her.
All the sadness she had felt before transformed into tears hidden deep within her heart! From now on, she would not take a step back; she would no longer accommodate these people—these gods! They were heartless; no matter how well she treated them, in their world, they only cared about themselves.
Selfishness had consumed their hearts; there was no beauty left within them. When they made mistakes, their first instinct was to push the blame onto others.
"You—what are you still doing alive? Why don't you go die?" Yao Guang questioned the Soldiers before her. Yes! They deserved to die; what were they living for? Shouldn't they perish for failing to defeat the Dragon Lord?
Indeed! They feared death.
Then let her be the one to send them off! It would be a final gift from someone who had worked alongside them for so many years!
With that thought, Yao Guang suddenly smiled at the group before her. At that moment, all they could feel in response to Yao Guang's smile was fear—only fear.
Yao Guang's smile was filled with the aura of death, reminiscent of the King of Hell demanding souls.
Taking out her gun, Yao Guang caressed its body and said to it, "Come on, baby, let's have a good fight!"
The Dragon Lord watched Yao Guang's demeanor and the appearance of the Soldiers, knowing in his heart that Yao Guang had been driven mad by the recent blows she had suffered.
However, he had no intention of getting involved. The current situation was exactly what he wanted to see. Just moments ago, even he felt a surge of anger upon hearing the Soldiers' words. How much more so for Yao Guang, who had already lost her loved ones? It seemed that the court had truly changed; he never expected that the Jade Emperor's court would be so devoid of humanity.
It appeared that his dragon offspring had indeed chosen a suitable time for rebellion. Now that the Big Dipper Seventh Star was dead or turned into a demon, the Soldiers in this court looked utterly defeated. Finally, his dragon clan could rise again.
Thus, the Dragon Lord stood aside, watching as Yao Guang wreaked havoc in the air, slaughtering those Soldiers.
The air was filled with wails of despair as soldiers' bodies fell from the clouds.
Slowly, blood dripped from above onto the ground, gradually forming a river.
At this moment, Yao Guang was splattered with blood from head to toe, yet she paid it no mind. Raising her gun, she lunged at the Soldiers before her. No matter who they were, she would kill gods if they appeared and kill Buddhas if they came.
However, Yao Guang had just suffered a tremendous blow. Although these hundred thousand soldiers were weak, fighting alone amidst them was still a struggle for her. Before long, her magical powers were nearly exhausted.
At this moment, she resembled a trapped beast, covered in countless wounds. Her blood mixed with that of the Soldiers', merging into one.
Yet she remained unfazed, gripping her gun tightly as she stared at the circle of Soldiers surrounding her.
Though they knew Yao Guang's magical powers were almost depleted, after witnessing her heroism moments ago, these Soldiers dared not advance an inch. They merely tightened their encirclement around Yao Guang.
Yao Guang looked at the soldiers surrounding him, feeling a sense of shame. How had he once been bullied by such cowardly people?
As he observed his current situation, the soldiers tightened their encirclement, raising their weapons to stab at him directly.
Here they come. Yao Guang's eyes flashed with determination as he spun the gun in his hand, creating a whirlwind around himself.
The gun in Yao Guang's hand was clearly different from the weapons held by the soldiers. Those who had once felt assured now found their weapons knocked from their hands by Yao Guang's skillful maneuvering.
"Just a bunch of rabble, scoundrels," Yao Guang spat out blood, his voice steady as he addressed the soldiers.
This statement rattled the soldiers; they exchanged glances and launched another attack on Yao Guang.
Facing such a crowd, Yao Guang remained unfazed. Even if he exhausted all his magic, he would not allow these people to succeed.
He closed his eyes, preparing for self-destruction. Unfortunately, he could not avenge his brothers or settle the score with Xue.
But that was fine; they would soon be reunited.
Yao Guang felt a wave of pain within his star soul, sensing that the end was near. He would soon meet his brothers again. Though in pain, a relieved smile spread across Yao Guang's face.
Then, he sank into darkness. (To be continued.)
