I was lost in thought when the madman suddenly charged at the giant snake, creating a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster where the hero faces off against a monster like Godzilla.
The giant snake merely flicked its tongue in disdain. At that moment, a black mist suddenly floated over, transforming into the figure of a person that lunged at the madman.
It was Vengeful Spirits!
The woman was fierce, her form fully materialized. In an instant, she appeared before the madman, grasping his neck with both hands and flinging him away effortlessly.
I observed her; she was stronger than I had anticipated. The deep Resentment had turned her into a Vengeful Spirit, and with the giant snake nurturing her, this ghost indeed possessed some power. However, the Fire Thunder Talisman from the Azure Cloud Taoist could handle her.

I hesitated, torn between whether to leap out and confront the ghost.
The madman was rolling towards me on the ground, shouting, "Lanxin! Lanxin! It's me, your husband! Lanxin, you can't keep following this monster to do bad things! Lanxin!"
At that moment, he truly began to cry—real tears.

With determination, I leaped out from behind the rock and charged at the ghost.

The power of the Fire Thunder Talismans was even greater than I had anticipated. It seemed that the Azure Cloud Daoist was indeed formidable. The two talismans struck like lightning, instantly dispersing Lanxin's ghostly form into smoke.
"Lanxin!" The madman suddenly fell to his knees, weeping uncontrollably.
"Hiss..." The Snake King couldn't bear to watch any longer. It hissed and lunged toward me and the madman.

The Snake King stretched its head forward and opened its massive jaws to swallow the madman whole.
"Heart!" was all I could shout in despair. At that moment, I could only watch helplessly as the madman fell into the giant serpent's mouth.
He smiled at me, a comforting and sweet smile. He nodded slightly, and then with a loud crunch, he was swallowed by the Snake King.
I was stunned; that smile of his before death left a deep impression on me. There really are people who aren't afraid of death!
"Hiss ha..."
After swallowing the madman, the Snake King turned its gaze toward me.
Seeing this situation, I felt a wave of regret wash over me. You crazy fool! If you wanted to die, why drag me into this? You saved me once and then put me in danger again. You thought you could handle the Snake King? What a joke! In less than one round, you were devoured.
I felt frustrated but couldn't bring myself to hate the madman. The most pressing issue now was how to escape from the jaws of the Snake King.
I was lost in thought when suddenly, with a loud bang, the entire neck of the Snake King exploded!
I was momentarily stunned; the explosion was intense and in an instant, it tore open the Snake King's neck, sending blood and flesh flying everywhere. A cloud of black smoke rose, mixed with the smell of sulfur. I was startled for a moment, then realized that the madman's military coat was packed with explosives! No wonder he looked so bulky in that coat. Judging by the power of the explosion, the explosives must have weighed more than he did!
I hid behind a rock, feeling uneasy.
The giant snake was blown into two pieces, its neck reduced to a bloody mess.
However, the Snake King did not die immediately; its head rolled on the ground for a few moments while the tail continued to thrash about. It took over half a minute before the Snake King finally succumbed.
I remained hidden behind the rock, puzzled. I wasn't there to collect the madman's body; I was hoping to see if I could extract the snake gall from this Snake King. With such a large snake, its gallbladder must be incredibly potent—perfect for healing and detoxifying. It would be far more valuable than any thousand-year-old ginseng.
Moreover, after consuming Fox Demon Meat last time and gaining immense strength, if I could get some snake meat this time, who knows? I might even attain immortality.
Seeing that the snake had finally died completely, I quickly pulled out my dagger and approached its body. As I ran, I suddenly spotted more than ten people lying on the ground; they all seemed to be from the Village. I paused for a moment and bent down to take a closer look. Not only were there villagers from Snake Village but also Stone Cheng and his subordinate. They lay motionless on the ground, clearly dead.
"What happened here?" I wondered aloud as I shook Stone Cheng gently; his body still felt warm—he couldn't have been dead for long.
Just as I was pondering this, Stone Cheng's mouth suddenly opened wide, and a black snake, about the thickness of a finger, slithered out from his mouth.
I was startled and quickly stepped back. The black snake hissed and lunged toward me.
Terrified, I threw my backpack over my shoulder and ran, glancing back as I did. I saw more black snakes slithering out from people's noses and mouths, all chasing after me. Fortunately, although they were fast, they couldn't catch up.
I dared not stop or think any longer and sprinted toward the cave where the madman had lived.
More and more snakes pursued me along the way. I was gasping for breath, running at a full sprint until I burst into the cave.
Inside the cave, Liu Yiyi was tending to a fire, roasting snake meat. When she saw me rush in, she immediately stood up and helped me steady myself.
I stumbled into the cave, panting heavily, and suddenly felt dizzy. Damn it, I had run too fast and inhaled too much sulfur; my whole body felt weak. I collapsed beside the fire, gasping, "Wow, it smells so good."
Liu Yiyi looked at me with concern.
I waved my hand dismissively. "I'm fine. I just got a bit winded from being chased by those snakes. Don't worry, Yiyi; I'm not going to die."
Liu Yiyi shot me a glare but then told me to rest. "You should take a break. Drink some water later; I'm roasting snake meat for you."
Leaning against the stone, I said, "Ah, it smells amazing. With a wife like this, what more could a husband want?"
Liu Yiyi laughed. "Aren't you sweet? By the way, what happened to that police officer?"
I shook my head. "He died. He was strapped with explosives and charged into the giant snake's mouth to blow it up. He died too. Sigh!"
Liu Yiyi fell silent.
We both took some time to rest. After a while, I felt a bit better and ate the snake meat that Liu Yiyi had roasted. To be honest, many women would be weak in the knees at the sight of a snake, let alone cooking its meat.

We both laughed.

Liu Yiyi nodded.
I continued, "Let's take the Sulfur with us. Although it's toxic, snakes are even more afraid of it. We'll coat our clothes with Sulfur and carry an extra bag as we run out. We'll take this route and then go around. It might be a longer journey, but it'll be safer.
