“What’s going on?” I muttered.
We hesitated for a moment, but the Shuiyue Mountain Platform behind us was already starting to collapse. We had no choice but to run forward, and as we did, the very platform we were on began to crumble as well.
“It’s the Wall of Ghosts! It has to be!” I thought frantically, rubbing my eyes, but I couldn’t see any flaws in the illusion.
“What do we do?!” Ayaka turned to me, her face pale with fear, on the verge of tears.
I was anxious too; I wanted to break this illusion, but I couldn’t find the key point to unravel it. Rocks were continuously rolling down around us, and they looked so real that if they were genuine, getting hit would surely mean death!
“This must be some kind of illusion. In China, we call it the Wall of Ghosts. The energy of this Wall of Ghosts is just too strong. I can’t find a way to break it in such a short time, but there must be a way. For example, places that defy common sense often hold the key to breaking the Wall of Ghosts.”
Ayaka was about to cry. “Song Fei, we’re counting on you! If you can’t figure it out, we’re doomed!”
As I ran, pulling the panting Ayaka along with me, I said, “You can’t blame me! I didn’t expect that your Japanese ghosts would be a bit different from ours in China; they seem harder to deal with. Our ghosts are filled with Resentment, while yours feel more like spirits.”
“Ah! Don’t say that!” Ayaka shouted.
Just then, a bus suddenly appeared at the Shuiyue Station. It sat quietly there, and in the driver’s seat, a man was eating sushi with the door open.
“There’s a vehicle!” Ayaka pointed.
Osaka and Yoshikura Mibu noticed it too. Without caring about anything else, the three of them dashed toward the bus.
I looked at it; although the bus seemed very strange, at that moment, I felt it might be the key point to breaking the entire Wall of Ghosts illusion. I followed them as we all ran toward the bus.
As we reached the bus, an eerie ghostly aura enveloped me.
I involuntarily shrank my shoulders at the eerie resentment that filled the air, sending chills down my spine. However, at that moment, I felt surprisingly relieved. I knew that even though I couldn't comprehend what was happening with that train, the collapse of the Shuiyue Mountain Platform was definitely caused by this Ghost Bus!
Now that I had found these spirits, as long as I dealt with them, the Wall of Ghosts technique would naturally be undone!
It’s important to note that I couldn’t decipher this illusion in a short time; it felt frustrating not to find any enemies despite having power coursing through me. But now that the main culprits had finally appeared, at least my Peach Wood Sword and Talismans would have a purpose!
I boarded the bus, where the driver was leisurely eating sushi. At the same time, there were over thirty passengers on board! The bus was nearly full, and an ominous atmosphere enveloped the entire vehicle.
When I got on, Osaka had already tossed the Male Reporter into an empty seat. He was panting and trying to talk to the driver, but the driver ignored him and continued to eat his sushi at a leisurely pace.
Osaka grew more anxious, his voice rising in volume.
I jumped on board and took a glance around, then took a deep breath—one, two, three, five… The bus was packed with Vengeful Spirits!
No wonder they could create such a realistic Wall of Ghosts illusion!
I asked Ayaka, “What are they doing?”
Ayaka whispered back, “Mr. Osaka is asking the driver to start driving, but the driver is ignoring him. If Mr. Osaka doesn’t do something soon, the entire platform will collapse, yet the driver still won’t pay him any mind.”
Just as I was about to respond, suddenly there was a clunk—the bus doors slammed shut.
Seeing the bus door close abruptly made me tense up. I pulled out my Corpse-Subduing Bell and Peach Wood Sword along with various Talismans.
With the Corpse-Subduing Bell in hand, I believed there wouldn’t be any major issues. Although there were many Vengeful Spirits, the bell was specifically designed to suppress Zombies. Plus, with enough Talismans and my Peach Wood Sword, I was confident I could handle it.
Osaka hadn’t realized the danger yet; when he saw the bus doors close, he let out a sigh of relief and muttered something.
Yoshikura Mibu beside him also seemed to relax and stood up to head toward the interior of the bus.
I grabbed Yoshikura Mibu and said, "Don't go over there; if you do, you won't survive."
Ayaka immediately translated my words for Yoshikura Mibu, who looked utterly astonished.
Osaka also heard Ayaka translate what I said and turned to look at me with a puzzled expression.
At that moment, the driver suddenly burped and shouted something.
I glanced at Ayaka, who replied, "The driver is about to start the bus."
Sure enough, with a grunt, the bus suddenly lurched forward. At that moment, with a crack, the driver's head suddenly slumped onto his shoulder. It seemed like only a layer of skin was left connecting his head to his neck. His head spun around wildly, and the sushi he had just eaten spilled out from his neck onto the steering wheel.
"Ah!" Yoshikura Mibu shrieked but quickly stifled himself.
Osaka was momentarily stunned as well.
At this point, all the passengers in the bus began to sob uncontrollably. As they cried, some had broken legs, some had flattened heads, and others had a sharp spike suddenly protruding from their stomachs, slicing them open.
The entire bus was a scene of carnage; everyone was wailing as an eerie ghostly aura thickened with their cries. At that moment, the bus inexplicably charged into the collapsed Shuiyue Mountain Platform.
With a loud crash, the bus plunged into the mountain. Suddenly, the lights inside the bus dimmed to an unimaginable darkness. Looking around, all I could see were pairs of eyes emitting faint pale light like ghostly flames.
"Song Fei! What on earth is happening?" Ayaka shouted loudly.
I didn't say much. With a snap, I activated a cold glow stick and then casually used a Golden Light Talisman. The light enveloped us. The glow from the Golden Light Talisman was warm; although it wasn't as powerful as the Fire Thunder Talisman, its illumination covered a wide area and lasted longer.
At that moment, the driver, whose head was still hanging limply, suddenly spoke toward me.
I couldn't understand him, but Ayaka quickly translated: "The driver... umm... he wants you to turn off the lights."
I asked, "Can you ask them what they want to do?"
"Ah?" Ayaka's voice trembled. "Ask... ask them?"
"Yes, ask them! Find out what they really want!" I insisted.
Ayaka nervously turned to the driver and said something.
The driver shouted loudly, and suddenly a dark shadow lunged at us from inside the car.
"Bang!"
At that moment, Osaka showed some bravery. He wasn't completely panicked yet; he pulled out his gun and fired at the shadow.
However, the bullet hit one of the passengers in the head, as if it had flown into a pile of mud, having no effect whatsoever.
I didn't have time to ask why. I threw a Fire Thunder Talisman, and with a loud explosion, two passengers next to us were reduced to ashes. I shook the Corpse-Subduing Bell and swept my Peach Wood Sword through the air, turning another two passengers into flying ash.
The other passengers stood up and looked at us. They wanted to rush over but seemed somewhat afraid of the light from the Golden Light Talisman.
I casually swept my Peach Wood Sword again, causing those passengers to turn into black smoke and disperse.
I sighed in relief. These Vengeful Spirits were far weaker than those from China; it wasn't just their strength that was lacking, but their intelligence as well. If I had encountered so many Zombies back in China, to be honest, I might not have been able to handle them because I couldn't possibly kill a Zombie with just one strike.
I quickly dealt with the passengers, and finally, I thrust my Peach Wood Sword sharply at the driver. With a hiss, he exploded into a cloud of ash.
From within the ashes, a dark shadow suddenly flew out from behind the steering wheel.
I pointed my Peach Wood Sword and said, "Where do you think you're running?"
With a "thud," the Shadows suddenly knelt before me.
The Peach Wood Sword rested against the neck of the Shadows.
The Shadows kept bowing and mumbling something to me. I frowned, controlling the Peach Wood Sword to prevent it from falling. I turned to Ayaka and said, "Ayaka, translate for me."
"What?" Ayaka, who was huddled behind me on my shoulder, replied.
I looked at Ayaka and said, "Translate for me; this guy is saying something."
Ayaka asked, "Who? Is there someone here?"
I paused for a moment, suddenly realizing that this shadow was a ghost. I could see it, but Ayaka couldn't. She and the others could only see Zombies; they certainly couldn't see a ghost like this one.
At that moment, the entire bus began to tremble, and it seemed like it was about to fall apart. I took out a Sophora Wood Gourd from my backpack and said to the shadow, "Get in! Hurry!"
The shadow hesitated. Although it didn't understand my words, it still flew into the Holly Wood Tube. Suddenly, the whole bus erupted with a loud bang.
I was startled; it really exploded! Were we going to die?
My head spun for a moment, and then I felt the surrounding space shake violently. The scenery outside completely transformed!
A faintly ethereal moonlight spilled onto the ground, surrounded by lush trees. I looked around and realized that we were all standing on a hillside!
My head throbbed a bit; killing that ghost had taken some effort.
"Where are we?" Ayaka asked.
The others exchanged words in Japanese. At that moment, the guy on the ground—the companion of Yoshikura Mibu—suddenly woke up, nervously shouting and panicking.
I ignored those Japanese figures and looked around, then remembered that I had brought a ghost from the car. It was a ghost, not a Vengeful Spirit, so there was no danger. After thinking for a moment, I took out the Holly Wood Tube.
At that moment, Ayaka walked over to me and said, "Song Fei, it seems like we are on the slope of Suigetsuyama."
"Ah?" I was taken aback for a moment, then nodded and said, "I see, no wonder those corpses appeared in this place."
"But it's strange," Ayaka said while shivering. "How could they suddenly appear here? Why are they here?"
I waved my hand and replied, "I have someone here; I'll ask him. Can you translate for me?"
"Who?" Ayaka looked around nervously.
