I looked at Lin Xia with confusion. "But didn't you tell him to go out and find a job?"
"I..." Lin Xia wiped her tears. "I just felt that him staying home all day playing games was too much. I only wanted him to go out and find a job, but I never wanted him to end up like this! He comes home at two in the morning, laughs at the side of the bed, and then leaves for work before dawn. I... I really don't want him to be like this."
I nodded, finally understanding. It seemed that Zheng Lianshan's changes were too drastic for Lin Xia to accept.
Just then, I heard the sound of the door opening, and Zheng Lianshan walked in.
Lin Xia immediately stood up, looking flustered. She clearly hadn't expected Zheng Lianshan to come home at this time. "Um, dear, you're back. This is my friend, Mr. Song Fei."
Zheng Lianshan paused when he saw me, then nodded and smiled. "Hello, Mr. Song. I hope you don't mind that I didn't find the right makeup products when I visited the store last time."
"Not at all," I replied, surprised that Zheng Lianshan remembered me.
Zheng Lianshan ignored me after that and sat down on the sofa. He pulled out ten thousand yuan from his bag. "This is my salary for half a month, Lin Xia. I've decided to quit my job."
"That's great!" Lin Xia quickly nodded in agreement.
Zheng Lianshan's expression remained serious as he continued, "I plan to use our house as collateral for a bank loan, and then I'll become an agent for a high-end makeup brand. I've calculated it; the agency fee is only four hundred thousand yuan. The market for makeup is good right now, especially high-end products which sell easily. Earning four hundred thousand a year will be quite easy. After accumulating funds for two years, I plan to produce health-related makeup products myself. The health market is booming now; if I invest ten million yuan, I'm confident that within three years, I can make back one hundred million yuan. Now, I'll go write a business plan while you two continue your conversation."
With that, Zheng Lianshan turned and walked toward the study, his expression serious and filled with confidence.
"Zheng Lianshan!" Lin Xia called out.
Zheng Lianshan stopped in his tracks and turned back to look at Lin Xia. "What is it?"
"Dear, I'm begging you, please don't think about these things anymore. Can we go back to our old life? Please!" Lin Xia stepped forward and hugged Zheng Lianshan tightly.
Zheng Lianshan shrugged off Lin Xia, sneering, "Isn't this the outcome you wanted? Step aside! No one can stop my plan to make money."
"Please, don't do this!" Lin Xia cried, her tears flowing heavily.
I was taken aback; I finally noticed something different about Zheng Lianshan. My eyes fixed on him as I casually pulled out the Peach Wood Sword, a cold smile forming on my lips. "Come out!"
Seeing the Peach Wood Sword in my hand, Zheng Lianshan took a step back and asked, "Mr. Song, what are you trying to do?"
I stepped forward, thrusting the Peach Wood Sword into Zheng Lianshan's chest.
He clutched his chest, glaring at me and shouted, "Have you lost your mind? What do you think you're doing? You want to stop my plan to make money too, right?"
I was momentarily stunned; I hadn't expected Zheng Lianshan to react this way. But something was definitely off about him!
As my hand accidentally brushed against his suit, a chilling sensation shot through my palm.
Realization struck me suddenly, and I yanked off Zheng Lianshan's suit jacket.
"What are you doing? Are you crazy? Lin Xia, call the police!" Zheng Lianshan yelled loudly.
Lin Xia stared at me in confusion, unsure of my intentions.
I shouted, "Lin Xia, come help me! Take off his clothes; there's something wrong with them!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Xia rushed over. She must have been holding back her frustration as she angrily tore at Zheng Lianshan's clothes. "No wonder he never takes off his clothes at night! I thought he was cheating; turns out it's this damn suit causing all the trouble!"
Together, we quickly stripped Zheng Lianshan of his suit.
Once the suit was removed, it was as if he had transformed into a different person. He suddenly looked exhausted and collapsed onto the sofa with a thud, then began to snore loudly.
This guy hadn't slept well for over half a month, so naturally, he was exhausted now.
Both Lin Xia and I let out a sigh of relief.
Suddenly, Lin Xia started to cry. She hugged Zheng Lianshan on the sofa and said, "Darling, I will never force you to go out and work again. We should be together happily."
I looked at the suit on the floor and frowned, asking, "Where did this suit come from?"
Hearing my question, Lin Xia wiped her tears and stared at the suit in confusion. "Huh? This suit seems to be... something Zheng Lianshan bought himself. Where did he get the money to buy such a nice suit?"
"How much does this suit cost?" I asked, as I really had no idea about suits.
Lin Xia touched the fabric; it felt a bit cool. However, her expression was serious as she considered, "This suit is custom-made. Look at the cuffs; it's from an Italian tailor. It probably costs at least ten thousand yuan, and that's the minimum. Honestly, I think it's worth around fifty or sixty thousand."
I took a deep breath. Damn it, a piece of clothing costs that much? "Does Zheng Lianshan have money to buy such a nice suit?"
"That's impossible!" Lin Xia immediately shook her head. "He's my boyfriend, and I manage all the money at home. He doesn't have a job, and his family is quite poor. He usually has to ask me for money even to buy a bottle of Red Bull. There's no way he could afford this suit."
I touched the suit again, feeling something was off. It felt eerily cold. I picked it up from the floor and noticed, "Huh? One of the buttons is missing?"
Lin Xia looked over and said, "It seems like it just fell off. We must have knocked it off earlier; it should have been intact before."
I sighed, "Alright then, let's wake Zheng Lianshan up later and ask him about this. There’s definitely something wrong with this suit."
After a while, Lin Xia and I managed to wake Zheng Lianshan up from his slumber. He looked very tired; his eyes were bloodshot when he opened them. Rubbing his head, he asked groggily, "What happened? What's going on? Ugh, I'm so sleepy; let me sleep a bit more."
I pulled him up and asked, "Zheng Lianshan, where did you buy this suit?"
"The suit? Oh, I bought it online," Zheng Lianshan said while rubbing his eyes. "Before, Lin Xia kept pushing me to find a job, which made me really angry. Instead of asking her for money, I just wanted to see if there were any cheap suits for sale online since I needed one for interviews. Then I happened to find someone in a QQ group selling suits at a low price—five hundred yuan each—and they even included a big red tie. When I saw the picture, I thought that suit looked better than what Lin Xia's dad wears. So I secretly took five hundred yuan and bought it right away. The seller was quite trustworthy; he was worried I wouldn't believe him, so he set up a store on Taobao for me to take pictures of it first and only pay after I was satisfied. That's how I got that suit. Honestly, the quality is really good; selling it for ten thousand would still be reasonable."
I and Lin Xia both understood the beginning and end of the matter. At this point, my commission should have been concluded, but there was clearly something wrong with this suit!
I couldn't give up because this suit was likely connected to some supernatural entity, and that was crucial to my magical powers!
I examined Zheng Lianshan closely. I realized that he was indeed someone who relied on others; when he wasn't wearing a suit, he seemed aimless, with a vacant expression, as if he only thought about eating, drinking, and having fun. This was in stark contrast to the person he became when he wore the suit!
I touched the fabric of the suit and said, "Zheng Lianshan, you need to contact the seller and ask if they have any more stock!"
Zheng Lianshan didn't know my true identity and was reluctant to do it. However, Lin Xia urged him from the side, "Hurry up!"
Zheng Lianshan was quite intimidated by Lin Xia. He quickly opened his computer and found the link to the online store from last time. Unfortunately, it showed that the link was no longer valid; it seemed the seller had stopped selling suits. So, Zheng Lianshan directly contacted the seller through Wangwang to inquire if they had any suits left.
After a long wait, there was still no response, and the seller wasn't online. It appeared that this person wasn't a professional seller at all; they hardly logged into Wangwang.
I glanced at the seller's Wangwang name along with their registration information, then took out my phone and opened Qin Hai's contact. "Hey, Hai Ge, can you help me look up some information?"
"What information?" Qin Hai asked.
"I need to find someone's information based on their Wangwang registration," I replied.
Qin Hai said on the other end of the line, "No problem! If they are a seller, we can trace their personal information through their bank card. For me, Hai Ge, this is easy."
"You're amazing, Hai Ge!" I flattered him.
After hanging up, I noted down the seller's name: someone named Ada.
Once I had the information, I said, "This suit has issues. My suggestion is to burn it. However, since it's your possession, what do you think?"
"Burn it!" Lin Xia immediately replied. "I don't want my man turning into a workaholic."
Zheng Lianshan stared at the suit, swallowing hard after a moment. "When I wear this suit, can I really make a hundred million in three years? That's... that's too exaggerated."
"What are you thinking!" Lin Xia slapped Zheng Lianshan on the head. "You should just stay home and keep me company. I'll have my dad arrange a job for you as a driver; you can just drive for him. I won't let you go out looking for work anymore."
With that, Lin Xia picked up the suit and tossed it into an iron basin. She then brought over some gasoline, poured it on, placed it at the door, and set it alight.
The suit burned fiercely, and with a loud "boom," a cloud of black smoke erupted. Soon, the entire garment was engulfed in flames, leaving only a basin of ashes and a few melted buttons behind.
I let out a sigh of relief. "Alright, Lin Xia, that's done here. We can consider this cleared up."
Lin Xia nodded.
