I glared at Yang Gou Dan and said, "What are you talking about? You were the one who stole the treasure from the temple."
"Then where did this Zen Staff come from? What the hell! Is it really that impressive? Hurry up and let me see it, Buddha. If it's truly made of Azure Thunderwood, then you've hit the jackpot," Yang Gou Dan said, licking his lips as he snatched the Zen Staff from my hands.
"Azure Thunderwood? What is that?" I asked, confused.
Yang Gou Dan stroked the Zen Staff and nodded, "What the hell! It really is Azure Thunderwood. With a Zen Staff like this, damn it, why is it covered in Sanskrit? I don't even recognize it. My master knows it, but he never taught me. If it hadn't been contaminated by those old monks and I could use it directly, I could take down that monster in seconds with this Azure Thunderwood..."
I was taken aback by Yang Gou Dan's reaction. I grabbed the Zen Staff back and asked, "Is this Zen Staff really that amazing?"
Yang Gou Dan wiped his drool and replied, "Amazing doesn't even begin to describe it. In my hands, it's practically a divine artifact."
At that moment, Chi Xiang, shaking his head like a chicken coop, looked up and asked, "What divine artifact? Endless Blade or Three Powers, or Black Cut?"
I kicked Chi Xiang in the rear and said, "Damn it, keep playing your game. We're dealing with serious business here."
Yang Gou Dan added, "That's not far off. If I could make my personal magic weapon out of this Azure Thunderwood, it would be like the Endless Blade, instantly boosting my critical hit rate."
I rubbed Yang Gou Dan's head and said, "You talk too much nonsense."
Yang Gou Dan explained, "Azure Thunderwood is a rare type of mutated wood. It's a sprout that emerges from the charred remains of Qingwu wood after being struck by lightning. It can only grow into Azure Thunderwood under those conditions. I don't know if that's true or not, but our Buddhist scriptures mention that this Azure Thunderwood has protective properties far superior to peach wood or black wood. If you carve some scriptures on this Azure Thunderwood, every strike would be a critical hit."
Hearing this, I was surprised at how impressive the Zen Staff was. I quickly hid it away; thankfully, it wasn't too long—just over a meter. I thought about giving it a coat of paint later so no one would recognize it.
Seeing my reaction, Yang Gou Dan smirked and said, "Azure Thunderwood is already extinct; you really need to hide it well. Otherwise, if others find out about it, they'll go crazy trying to snatch it away. Honestly, I want one too; it's just that it's covered in all sorts of random Buddhist scriptures that I don't recognize or want to learn—it's such a waste."
I replied, "You don't understand anything. I'm going to learn how to use it."
"Wasting it in your hands would be a crime; it's better suited for us Buddhists!" Yang Gou Dan sighed sadly.
I said, "Alright, enough about the Zen Staff for now. Dog Egg, what are we going to do about that Turtle Spirit? We need to get rid of it quickly; otherwise, soon enough we won't have the ability to kill it."
Yang Gou Dan thought for a moment and said, "There are two options. One is to call my master right now. If the Turtle Spirit has really been sealed for five hundred years, I definitely won't be able to handle it alone. Only my master can ensure our safety. But, well, I won't be calling him, so don't even think about it."
"What's the second option?" I asked eagerly, glaring at Yang Gou Dan.
He replied, "The second option is for us to set up a formation to lure it into the trap and then kill it."
"Alright, you set up the formation, and I'll lure it in," I said.
Yang Gou Dan looked at me and opened a pack of Spicy Strips. While munching on them, he remarked, "I didn't expect you to have such a sense of justice and responsibility. For the formation, the most reliable one would be the Eight Great Vajra Arhat Formation, but we need eight enlightened monks for that."
"Eight monks?" I was speechless. "Why not just use the Thirty-Six Formation instead?"
Yang Gou Dan stared at me as if I were an idiot. "If you can't find eight monks, how do you expect to find thirty-six?"
I pulled out thirty-six bronze figures from my backpack. "Look, these will do just fine!"
Yang Gou Dan was momentarily stunned and then fell silent. "Are you really counting on these thirty-six scraps to take down a five-hundred-year-old monster? Hmm, but it might actually work. If I lead this Bronze Man Formation, using the earth's energy along with my prayer beads, we might have a chance."
"Then it's settled," I sighed in relief.
Excitement bubbled within me as I shouted internally. This was a five-hundred-year-old monster! If we succeeded in absorbing its Demonic Power, I would feel invincible! Even if I had to face danger alongside Su Mingyue, I wouldn't be afraid!
I quickly discussed with Yang Gou Dan how to use the thirty-six Bronze Man Formation.
After some research, Yang Gou Dan concluded that the Bronze Man Formation was easy to use but required careful selection of the location.
I was ready.
I grabbed my bag, slung my Zen Staff over my shoulder, and headed outside with Yang Gou Dan. We got into the car, and I drove toward Lin Xia's neighborhood. When choosing a location, it had to be close to where the monster was so we could easily lure it over.
Near Lin Xia's area, there was an empty lot with a row of unfinished buildings. It was quite spacious there; however, the downside was that there were many people around since this area had been developed into a night market filled with makeshift stalls and food vendors. Although it looked lively, couples and groups often gathered here to eat and socialize.
I looked around the place and said, "Let's settle here for now."
Yang Gou Dan nodded.
I turned to Yang Gou Dan and said, "I'll go check out the details of that Demon first, then we can make further arrangements."
After choosing a location, I headed towards Lin Xia's house. To be honest, I wasn't sure if that Turtle Spirit had left. The scariest thought was that the Turtle Spirit had already turned Lin Xia and Zheng Lianshan into Corpses.
I reached the door of Lin Xia's room, took a deep breath, and knocked on the door with a "Thump Thump Thump."
After a while, the door finally opened, revealing Zheng Lianshan's head. He looked at me with a hint of confusion.
Seeing that Zheng Lianshan was still alive, I felt relieved. "Where's Lin Xia? I need to talk to her about something."
"Oh, Lin Xia? She went on a trip," Zheng Lianshan replied.
"A trip? What kind of trip in this heat?" I muttered, then added, "Well, that's fine. How have you been lately?"
Zheng Lianshan smiled. "I'm doing great, feeling strong and eating well."
I nodded and reached out to grab Zheng Lianshan's shoulder, lowering my voice. "About that thing you bought last time..." At that moment, I suddenly stopped speaking; I could smell something foul coming from Zheng Lianshan!
Though faint, it was unmistakable when I held his shoulder! The stench! The smell of the river!
Turtle Spirit!
My heart raced as I realized that the Turtle Spirit had merged with Zheng Lianshan! And Lin Xia going on a trip? It was likely because the Turtle Spirit was afraid she would notice something amiss, so it must have killed her!
Once I made this connection, my heart sank. I was now embracing a centuries-old monster, and I had almost warned him to watch out for that button!
In an instant, cold sweat broke out on my back. If this Turtle Spirit discovered that I knew its secret, it could easily devour me! I was terrified but forced myself to hold it together.
Zheng Lianshan looked at me, squinting his eyes and smiling, "What's wrong? What did I buy last time?"
I replied, "It's not what you bought... it's what you sold last time—the makeup products. Do you still have any? Sell them to me at a cheaper price."
Zheng Lianshan said, "I stopped selling those a long time ago. Now I'm researching new types of makeup products myself."
I chuckled and nodded, "Alright, if you don't have any, then forget it. I need to head back; there's something at school I need to take care of. By the way, if you're not feeling well, just let me know."
Zheng Lianshan squinted his eyes, staring into mine.
I didn't dare to look at him and turned to head downstairs.
"Wait!" Zheng Lianshan suddenly called out from behind me.
I jumped in surprise and didn't dare to respond.
I could hear footsteps approaching from behind; clearly, Zheng Lianshan was coming toward me!
My palms were sweaty. Just then, footsteps echoed from downstairs, and an elderly woman appeared, walking up with a Teddy dog on a leash.
The Teddy seemed to sense something and started barking furiously at Zheng Lianshan when they reached the stairs.
"Ah," Zheng Lianshan stepped back two paces.
The dog's owner quickly apologized, "Oh dear, I'm so sorry! My little one has always been well-behaved. I truly apologize for scaring you gentlemen!"
Seizing the opportunity, I laughed and said, "Come on, you're a grown man and you're afraid of a dog?"
Zheng Lianshan laughed too and replied, "It's a reflex; I was bitten by a dog once. Haha."
I waved my hand dismissively, "Alright then, I'm off to buy some makeup." With that, I hurried downstairs while the Teddy continued to whine.
Arriving at the entrance of Unit Floor, I felt the sweat on my back soaking through my sweater. I couldn't imagine how a monster could so vividly control a person, making them live so naturally.
I hurried over to Yang Gou Dan.
Yang Gou Dan was eating Spicy Strips. Upon seeing me, he asked, "So, did you find that monster?"
I nodded. "I found it. I don't know how it did it, but it transformed into a human. If I hadn't caught a faint fishy smell from it, I wouldn't have been able to tell it was possessed by a monster."
Yang Gou Dan pondered for a moment and said, "Its strength shouldn't have recovered much, but its intelligence is indeed high. What should we do next?"
I replied, "Next, we naturally set up a trap to catch it. Damn, I almost didn't make it back just now. Let's head to the police station first. I'll call Brother Chen and Qin Hai for help. Also, I want to confirm whether Lin Xia really left."
With that, I got into the car and revved the engine, speeding off with Yang Gou Dan toward the police station.
