Gravekeeper
I was momentarily taken aback. It seemed that women in Europe really didn’t like to play by the rules; this was quite forward, especially considering the gunfire surrounding us.
Mona smiled at me. "Daoist, just make sure to protect yourself. Dealing with a Hegel is easy for me, of course, provided you’re not tagging along."
With that, Mona tossed her Flying Claw into the treetops. Then she leaped several times and vanished into the branches.
I realized that my agility was indeed far inferior to hers, so I decided to stay put behind the tree and wait.
Before long, I heard a whoosh as the Flying Claw flew over to the opposite rooftop, followed by a series of gunshots. Soon after, a distant scream echoed, and then the gunfire ceased.
I waited quietly. At that moment, suddenly someone crawled out from the well across from me—a woman dressed in British Servant attire. With a leap, she emerged from the well, her eyes glinting in the darkness.
I stared in disbelief. Were there Zombies even at the bottom of the well?
The Maid sniffed the air and charged toward me.
This Maid Zombie had clearly been dead for some time; her face was decayed.
However, as long as she was an evil entity, I wasn’t afraid. I took out my Corpse-Subduing Bell and shook it lightly.
Instantly, the Maid slowed down.
I pulled out a Fire Thunder Talisman and ran toward her, throwing it down with a crash. A flash of lightning erupted, turning the Maid into a pile of ash. Seizing the opportunity, I absorbed her Demonic Power.
The yard fell eerily silent for a brief moment.
A chill ran down my spine as I sensed something was off. Turning around, I saw that those corpses controlled by spirits, along with some crazed bodies and zombies, were all staring at me.
"Damn it!"
I stepped back, feeling overwhelmed by the multitude of supernatural creatures. If they all surged at once, I wouldn't stand a chance.
"Run quickly!"
A figure jumped behind me; it was Mona.
Mona grabbed my arm and pulled me toward the stone tablet.
This time, no one shot at us from the shadows. It seemed that Mona had already dealt with that Hegel character. Looking at her now, it was clear that Mona was incredibly skilled, able to stand out among thousands. She had effortlessly taken down Hegel, who was also competing for the bounty. In terms of combat ability, Mona was undoubtedly the strongest among us.
We rushed toward the stone tablet.
Behind it lay Wen Yan, sprawled on the ground with a gun in one hand and a grenade in the other, his face twisted in pain.
"What the hell, Wen! Are you planning to commit suicide?" I ran over to him.
When Wen Yan saw me, he rubbed his eyes and burst into laughter. "Damn it, Song Fei! It's really you! I thought I was seeing things! I was just thinking how tragic it would be if in my final moments, the last person I saw was your shadow. It made me question my sexual orientation! But now it turns out it's really you!"
Seeing that Wen Yan could still joke around eased my worries. I hoisted him up. "Alright, buddy, stop questioning your orientation. If you really had issues, I'd be in big trouble this time."
I carried Wen Yan as we made our escape.
Behind us, an Old Taoist staggered along, swaying as he walked, his eyes blood-red.
"This guy's lost it," I said.
Mona raised her gun and fired a shot that took off the Old Taoist's head.
Wen Yan looked at Mona, speechless.
I shouted loudly in English, "Anyone who doesn't want to die, hurry and follow me out! Staying here will definitely get you killed!"
I supported Wen Yan with one arm while holding the Azure Thunder Staff in the other. Mona walked beside me, armed with a pistol and a dagger, as the three of us rushed toward the gate of the courtyard.
At that moment, a few European Brutes ran over to join us, followed by several others who stumbled out in a panic and joined our escape.
A few zombies dressed as Servants blocked the entrance, their eyes glowing with a red light.
I placed Wen Yan into the hands of a nearby burly man. "I'll handle the trouble up front." I took out the Corpse-Subduing Bell and shook it twice, producing a buzzing sound that immediately slowed down the zombies. Raising the Azure Thunder Staff, I struck down several times, sending those blocking the entrance flying. The Azure Thunder Staff may not have been powerful against ordinary people, but it was much easier to deal with these zombies; it practically came with its own enchantment for knocking them back and an electric effect.
However, it was too dangerous now to worry about absorbing any Ghostly Energy.
"Wow, cool!"
"Awesome! These disgusting creatures are actually so easy to deal with."
"Stop talking! That thing is really powerful; this Chinese person must be some kind of Taoist from legends."
The big guys behind us whispered among themselves.
I couldn't be bothered to respond to them as I led them all out of the courtyard. Without the threat of zombies, everyone moved quickly. In just a few seconds, we burst out of that yard.
Suddenly, there was a series of eerie laughter.
I froze for a moment, sensing something was wrong.
Then the surrounding space abruptly transformed into a massive vortex, endless black mist swirling around us. We were all trapped inside this gigantic whirlpool.
"It's a ghost technique similar to the Wall of Ghosts," I said, feeling unafraid as I prepared to force my way through with the Azure Thunder Staff.
Suddenly, a woman appeared in the air—a woman in a wedding dress. However, the dress was torn in many places, leaving only a thin veil clinging to her body. Her skin was exposed, marred with bruises and wounds.
"Ah! A ghost!"
"What the hell! A female ghost! It looks like Alice!"
"What’s going on?"
The people around me were renowned detectives and mercenaries from around the world. Despite their fame, they were still far from capable when it came to dealing with ghosts and supernatural beings.
The female ghost floated in the air, her power palpable. Everyone could see her figure hovering there.
"What do you want?" I asked.
The ghost looked at me and said, "Play a game with me."
"I don't want to play games with you, and I'm not afraid of you," I replied, shaking the Azure Thunder Staff in my hand.
The ghost let out a sharp, eerie laugh that sent chills down my spine—far more terrifying than any ghost from Chinese folklore.
"If you won't play with me, this woman will die!" With that, the ghost's figure suddenly vanished.
As I pondered her words, I heard Mona scream. She jumped back and turned to run into the courtyard, bursting straight into the house in the backyard!
I frowned. This ghost was powerful; our strengths seemed comparable. I couldn't kill her easily, but it wouldn't be simple for her to trap me either. However, now she had possessed Mona! If I didn't go in, Mona would surely be doomed!
I clenched my fist and turned to Wen Yan. "You should leave; it's too dangerous here. I need to go in and save that woman."
Wen Yan nodded, "Alright, that woman is beautiful, of course she must be saved."
"Damn!" I gestured with my middle finger towards Wen Yan, then turned to the other burly men and said, "It's dangerous here. If you want to come and die, I won't stop you. Just think clearly about whether Bonus is more important or your life." With that, I turned and ran into the courtyard.
No one followed me from behind, and I breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed these people were truly scared off by the ghosts and zombies.
I ran into the red house in the center. An eerie ghostly aura enveloped the house, giving off a sense of impending doom.
Taking a deep breath, I lifted my foot and kicked the front door of the house open. Gripping the Azure Thunder Staff tightly, I stepped inside.
The interior was dark, and a foul stench hit me immediately.
I took out my flashlight and turned it on.
Where the light shone, two women dressed in maid outfits stood five meters away, staring at me.
I was momentarily stunned.
Suddenly, the two maids lunged at me.
I quickly shook the Corpse-Subduing Bell, slowing their movements. I swung my Azure Thunder Staff and struck one maid on the neck, sending her flying. Thankfully, with the Corpse-Subduing Bell, otherwise dealing with these maids would have cost me my life.
Back in my home country, encounters with zombies were rare. However, in Avery Manor, almost everyone was a zombie—cursed to death and turned into one.
I thought to myself that there was no need to rush; I might as well kill while absorbing Ghostly Energy.
I waved my flashlight as I moved forward. The house was large, and I had no idea where to search for Mona. Standing in the center of the living room on the first floor, I looked around.
The furniture here was new and filled with European classical style. It was evident that a lot of effort went into decorating for their wedding; it was just unclear why such a tragedy had suddenly occurred.
I circled the living room with a punch, then ascended the spiral staircase. On the second floor, a male servant stood there, his eyes vacant, dressed in a butler-style tailcoat.
My flashlight found him.
Suddenly, the man turned his head and began to scream as he charged toward me.
What the hell! This is ridiculous.
I was feeling quite frustrated; this female ghost was making me play a game, and it seemed like one of those obstacle courses. That was just too much.
I waved the Corpse-Subduing Bell in my hand, and as the servant swayed unsteadily, I brought down the Azure Thunder Staff onto his backside. The flash of lightning illuminated the room as the servant collapsed, convulsing. I didn't hold back; I smashed his head in with a single strike and absorbed the Ghostly Energy...
