I stayed in Yunnan for another moment, and after Zhang Yuru returned, the two of us took a cat and a dog back to Donghai City.
By the time we arrived in Donghai City, it was already the first day of the eighth lunar month, and in half a month, it would be the fifteenth.
After returning Flower Girl to Liu Yiyi's grandmother, her health improved quickly. In truth, she hadn't been very ill; it was just that she had been overly worried.
Liu Yiyi's family treated me very well, and this kindness made me feel a bit uneasy. I feared that I might never return again, worried that this was the last time I would spend with Liu Yiyi.
On the fifteenth of August, in the afternoon, a car stopped in front of the café.
I was inside the café practicing my sorcery. Ever since I broke through my sorcery barriers at the Corpse Raising Ground, I had become quite adept at wielding my Azure Thunder Staff, which had almost become my life’s magical weapon.
However, I currently lacked Demonic Power, and during this time, I hadn’t had the chance to gather any.
I turned my head to see the car outside; it was a modified Dongfeng Warrior, an absolutely professional-grade diesel off-road vehicle. In the driver's seat sat a stunning woman wearing sunglasses. She glanced at me and beckoned with her finger.
It was Su Mingyue.
I knew that what was meant to come would eventually arrive.
I stood up, grabbed a backpack from my bedroom, and walked outside. I had already prepared everything.
“Song Fei!”
Zhang Yuru put down the plate in her hand and chased after me.
I turned to look at Zhang Yuru and smiled, "Just pray that I don't come back, then you'll be the Boss lady here."
"Go to hell!" Zhang Yuru punched me lightly, "Song Fei, wait a moment, I'll call them."
"Please don't." I quickly stopped Zhang Yuru, saying, "Zhang Yuru, just keep it to yourself. There's no need to make it sound like a life-and-death situation. Just continue with your own things; everyone should mind their own business. It's no different from before."
Zhang Yuru's eyes turned red, and she nodded.
I patted her head and said, "Alright, let's go."
"Okay."
Zhang Yuru waved at me.
I tossed my bag onto the back seat and then jumped into the passenger seat.
Heizi followed closely behind me and hopped into the back seat.
With a roar, the car sped onto the highway.
As I sat in the car, watching Donghai City grow smaller in the distance, a sense of bittersweetness filled my heart. However, thinking back on it, over the past six months, I had experienced things that most people wouldn't dare to imagine in a lifetime. I had made many lifelong friends and had someone like Liu Yiyi as a confidante. Even if… even if I couldn't come back this time, I would have no regrets.
"Ah!"
I sighed and looked ahead.
"Feeling sentimental?" Su Mingyue asked calmly.
I glanced at her and replied, "Of course. I might not survive this time, so naturally, I'm feeling sentimental."
Su Mingyue took off her sunglasses, revealing her stunning beauty. She merely smiled disdainfully and said, "What joy is there in life, and what fear in death?"
"I'm not afraid of dying; I just think I would be sad if I could never see my friends again," I said. "Don't you miss your family or friends?"
"My family?" Su Mingyue seemed taken aback for a moment, then she regained her composure. "I have no family, no friends. I... I don't even have a past."
"Huh?" I was genuinely shocked by her words. I quickly turned to look at Su Mingyue. "You have no family? Have you lost your memory?"
Su Mingyue pressed her lips together and said, "Something like that. Anyway, let's not talk about it anymore. We need to reach Hubei Shennongjia before eight tonight." With that, Su Mingyue pressed down harder on the accelerator.
The car trembled as it surged to one hundred and forty. To be honest, most cars can reach that speed, but this one was different; it was a diesel vehicle, and hitting one hundred and forty felt like torture. The bumps made me feel a bit nauseous.
I sat there in silence.
On the highway, Su Mingyue ignored any speed limits and barreled ahead. By around six o'clock, we had arrived at the borders of Shennongjia.
Upon arrival, Su Mingyue did not continue along the Main Road but instead drove directly onto a somewhat muddy dirt path. She circled around a forested area, and soon the road became particularly rugged. However, despite its roughness, there were many tire tracks visible on the ground.
At this moment, it was finally time for the Dongfeng Warrior to showcase its capabilities; the dirt path felt as smooth as a paved road.
About half an hour later, it was nearly completely dark. Surrounded by mountains and forests, the sounds of animals echoed in the night. Ahead, I noticed a two-story building illuminated with lights!
Su Mingyue drove straight toward the building.
As we approached, I realized that it was actually an inn. In front of the building, numerous off-road vehicles were parked, with the Toyota Land Cruiser series being the most common, alongside many custom-modified cars.
Su Mingyue parked the car and turned to me. "This is the last rest stop. Let's have a good meal here because we will be heading deep into Shennongjia soon."
I nodded eagerly.
We got out of the car and walked toward the building. Outside, there were many notices about self-driving trips in Shennongjia plastered everywhere. I quickly understood that this place was likely a secret gathering point for many who came here for self-driving adventures.
Of course, Shennongjia is actually a protected area; aside from specific open routes, visitors are not allowed to enter other areas on their own. Therefore, this place is somewhat illegal and must remain discreet.
Su Mingyue and I entered the shop on the first floor.
The shop was bustling with activity; many people were chatting loudly. Those who could afford to enjoy off-roading were truly wealthy individuals with both time and money to spare. Engaging in such activities isn’t just about buying an off-road vehicle.
Clearly, everyone here exuded confidence.
I walked in with Su Mingyue and asked the Boss to quickly bring out some good food. I ordered eight dishes and two buckets of rice.
The Boss was a middle-aged man, likely a seasoned Hiker. He instructed the cook to prepare the food and then approached us, looking at Su Mingyue and me. "You two ordered so much food; are you planning to finish your meal and continue deeper inside?"
Su Mingyue glanced at the Boss but said nothing, instead turning her gaze out the window.
I knew that Su Mingyue was accustomed to being aloof. I replied to the Boss, "Yes, that's right. So we need larger portions; if we can't finish, we'll take it with us."
The Boss chuckled lightly. "I advise you both not to venture deeper at night, especially on a full moon. It's really dangerous inside Shennongjia."
"Oh?" I looked at the Boss. "Are there man-eating beasts in there?"
He waved his hand dismissively. "I can't say for sure, but I've been running this inn for twenty years and have seen hundreds of people go in without ever coming back out. Most of them disappeared during the full moon."
Hearing this, I understood why Su Mingyue had insisted on bringing me along today.
I nodded at the Boss. "Thank you for the warning, but we do have business to attend to inside, so we appreciate your concern."
"Alright," the Boss replied politely, nodding at us before leaving.
Before long, the food arrived, and I began to eat while observing the other patrons in the inn. There were quite a few people—over twenty—but they seemed to be divided into three groups, so everyone was somewhat familiar with each other. Even if they weren't acquainted, introductions were made, as they were all part of the off-road community.
There were very few women—only three in total. Aside from Su Mingyue, the other two were young married women who looked strong and fit, clearly accustomed to regular workouts.
I didn't pay much attention, after all, we were different from those people.
As we were eating, a tall man with a pale face approached us. He was dressed in military-grade gear, clearly a wealthy second-generation.
The man came over, smiled at me briefly, then turned to look at Su Mingyue. "Are you two planning to enter Shennongjia tonight as well? I hope you're not here just to film the wild man."
I noticed that the man kept his gaze fixed on Su Mingyue, clearly disregarding me, which annoyed me. I chose to ignore him and continued eating.
Su Mingyue also paid him no mind.
The man paused and smiled. "Don't be afraid, beautiful. There are seven of us, and three of them are well-known off-road experts who often come here. If we go together, it would be safer..."
"Get lost!" Su Mingyue spat out a single word before returning to her meal.
