Xia Shengyang, an ordinary shut-in.
He had a car and a house, and was all alone after his parents passed away.
"Just wish I had a sister!" Xia Shengyang mumbled.
As an only child, the only regret in Xia Shengyang's life was the absence of siblings.
His parents had died young, and they never got to have a second child. This left Xia Shengyang to grow up mostly by himself.
In such an environment, he naturally developed a solitary and introverted personality. As a seasoned otaku, he spent long hours sitting in front of his computer, struggling with nearsightedness and obesity.
At the age of 30, Xia Shengyang had never had a girlfriend. The only thing that alleviated his loneliness was the kawaii sisters he found on his computer.
However, with the iron fist of 404 striking down, those sisters' online havens were swiftly shut down. Consequently, he found himself deprived of his mental sustenance.
"Sigh, another fake one." After adding yet another batch of viruses to his computer, Xia Shengyang rubbed his hair in frustration.
His best buddy had given him a list of URLs to try out one by one.
But despite battling through a horde of viruses, he still couldn't find a single usable website.
It was either a 404 error or a phishing link. If it weren't for his extensive experience and preparedness for virus attacks, his computer would have turned into a useless hunk of metal by now.
"Without a girlfriend, what movies can you watch? Your time is precious! Come to the cinema to find your exclusive girlfriend! Silicone Girlfriend, click to get one! I'm Soulmate, waiting for you at the cinema on November 1st!"
Suddenly, a pop-up window flashed in the lower right corner of his screen.
A colorful character was bouncing around, doing something animated.
"Idiot..." Xia Shengyang thought, not even glancing at it, as he clicked the close button in the upper right corner.
To his surprise, the screen shifted and he found himself on a strange movie ticket booking page.
"..."
He realized he had been tricked; that was Xia Shengyang's first thought.
Those shameless people often replaced the close button in the upper right corner with a "Learn More" option. Meanwhile, the actual close button was moved to the upper left or lower right corner.
After closing the webpage, Xia Shengyang began searching for the exit.
Having watched this ad several times, he was on the verge of tears but still couldn't find a way to close it.
"How shameless! Web ads without a close button are illegal!" Xia Shengyang snorted coldly, planning to take a screenshot and report it to the Internet Management Center.
Ads without close buttons were a relic from years ago. After so many years, no one dared to do such a thing anymore.
Just as he was about to take a screenshot, the 15-second ad finished playing and transitioned into another one.
"Damn it, it doesn't even disappear automatically—what a rogue!"
Encountering such an audacious rogue ad for the first time left Xia Shengyang utterly speechless.
This 15-second ad had played to completion, yet the window switched to another ad instead of disappearing. It was truly remarkable.
"Are you wondering why you can't close it?"
The sudden advertisement interrupted Xia Shengyang's actions in an instant.
"Are you thinking of reporting it again?"
"Do you want to know where the close button is?"
At this point, the advertisement paused, and an option appeared on the screen.
"I want to know! I don't want to know!"
Curiosity killed the cat, and Xia Shengyang impulsively clicked on the "I want to know" option.
Well, the advertisement continued to play.
"The answer has been revealed!"
"Please watch it again! Find it yourself!"
"No girlfriend? What movie are you watching? Your time is very precious; come to the cinema and find your exclusive girlfriend! Silicone Girlfriend, click to get one! I'm your Soulmate; on November 1st, I'll be waiting for you at the cinema!"
Xia Shengyang: "..."
He had a word he wanted to say but wasn't sure if he should.
This was damn too teasing!
"Where's the close button? Why is it replaying?"
The advertisement continued to the options, and having already been burned once, Xia Shengyang naturally wouldn't choose anything related to "I want to know."
He lightly clicked on the option he didn't want to know, while Xia Shengyang eagerly watched the computer screen.
"Hey, you don't want to know?"
Xia Shengyang nodded in agreement!
"Then if you don't want to close it, I can keep playing!"

Where did this urge to smash the computer come from?
Xia Shengyang really wanted to trace the internet connection back to the creator of this advertisement and give him a good beating so he could understand what a fist the size of a sand pot feels like.
But after thinking it over, Xia Shengyang still felt a bit unwilling. If he didn't figure out where that close button was, he probably wouldn't be able to sleep tonight.
He opened QianDu and searched for keywords like "close button for movie ads," then hit search.
Fortunately, there seemed to be plenty of victims online just like Xia Shengyang.
Questions about where the close button was kept popping up, and the topic was gaining traction.
Flipping through the pages, Xia Shengyang finally found a reliable answer.
"Actually, this advertisement isn't that great. The close button is quite hidden, but if you look closely, you can still spot it. The close button is right in the middle of the ad window. It's located at a rather embarrassing part of that male actor!"
Xia Shengyang was taken aback and returned to the previous webpage, where the ad was still playing on repeat.
Sure enough, after staring intently at the screen, Xia Shengyang quickly found the concealed white X-shaped close button.
However, its position was indeed awkward!
The white X-shaped close button was situated right beneath a rather hideous part of the male actor.
This meant that to close this annoying ad, he would have to click vigorously on that actor's private area with his mouse.
Xia Shengyang: "…"
What a user-unfriendly design; this was just too vulgar.
Fortunately, Xia Shengyang had seen his fair share of things and wasn't overly concerned about appearances or face-saving.
He casually clicked on the actor's private area, and finally managed to close the ad successfully.
Just as Xia Shengyang was feeling pleased about this, another window popped up on the screen.
"You thought you could get rid of me?"
"Really?!"
"Without a girlfriend, what movies can you watch? Your time is very precious, come to the cinema to find your exclusive girlfriend! Silicone Girlfriend, click to get one! I am Soulmate, waiting for you in the cinema on November 1!"
Xia Shengyang: "..."
"How shameless, truly damn shameless!" Xia Shengyang could no longer contain the anger boiling inside him.
This advertisement was so damn shameless, with no design at all, it felt like it was deliberately teasing him.
What made Xia Shengyang feel even more frustrated was that this damn ad would pop up automatically.
"How shameless..."
