As Li Hong rushed to the parking lot and drove hurriedly to Lin Ruxian's home, it was already five-thirty in the afternoon.
The person who opened the door for him was Lin Ruxian's father, Lin Zhengfeng.
Facing Li Hong's late arrival, Lin Zhengfeng didn't say anything sarcastic; he simply said lightly, "Come in."
Li Hong smiled awkwardly, not daring to retort.
Upon entering the house, he noticed that a large table of delicious food had already been prepared. Lin Ruxian's family, along with Yuchen, were all seated in a circle, seemingly waiting for him.
Before taking a seat, Li Hong apologetically addressed everyone, "Sorry, Mom and Dad. I was away from the company for half a month, and there were quite a few things to handle, so I got delayed."
Lin Zhengfeng remained unfazed, while Lin Ruxian's mother smiled and said, "It's fine, it's fine. We haven't been waiting long. Now that you're here, sit down and let's eat!"
"Since we're all family now, there's no need to be polite," Lin Zhengfeng probably had come to terms with it and didn't give Li Hong any unpleasant looks.
"Okay!"
After a pleasant dinner, Lin Ruxian received a phone call from the housekeeping company, informing her that the cleaning at home was nearly finished.
Since the house was ready, Li Hong's family felt it would be inappropriate to linger any longer.
Lin Ruxian took Yuchen home to sleep, leaving Li Hong behind to discuss wedding plans with her parents.
"Mom and Dad, there's something I want to talk to you about." Seizing this opportunity, Li Hong planned to share his thoughts with them.
Lin Zhengfeng had already guessed during dinner that Li Hong had something on his mind and was not surprised by it.
As Lin Ruxian's Mother was tidying up the dishes, preparing to take them to the kitchen for washing, she sat down, eager to hear what Li Hong had to say.
After some deliberation, Li Hong spoke candidly, "Mom and Dad, here's the thing. Lin Ruxian and I have already obtained our marriage certificate, and Yuchen is growing up. I think we should hold a wedding ceremony. I just want to know what you both think about it."
"A wedding?" Lin Zhengfeng and his wife exchanged puzzled glances, unsure of what Li Hong was thinking.
After a long pause, Lin Zhengfeng broke the silence first. "You two can decide for yourselves; we have no objections. Holding a wedding is fine by us. Lin Ruxian's mother and I feel the same way. But how to go about it is up to you two to discuss."
"Lin Ruxian has no objections either. Our marriage has already been publicized in the media. Holding a wedding is just to put your minds at ease," Li Hong replied with a smile.
Lin Zhengfeng nodded. "As long as Lin Ruxian agrees, that's good enough. We had considered urging you to hold a wedding ourselves, but we thought your identities were a bit sensitive, making it difficult to arrange, so we didn't bring it up. Now that you have made up your mind, that's the best outcome."
"Dad, the problem is this: my parents passed away long ago, and I don't have any close relatives left. What do you think we should do about this?" Li Hong asked with a frown.
A wedding is a significant event in life; even if it is more about form than substance, the process can be quite complicated.
Since Li Hong's parents had passed away and he had no close elders to turn to for help, they would need someone older to assist them with the arrangements. Since he had no one on his side to step in, he would have to rely on Lin Zhengfeng and his wife.
"Haha, no worries! Leave it to me," Lin Zhengfeng assured him with a pat on his chest.
"I know you both are busy with work, so we'll handle this for you. You focus on your own matters; we'll take care of the rest."
"Thank you both so much!" Li Hong expressed his gratitude.
Lin Zhengfeng frowned at his words. "What do you mean by that? She's my daughter and your legitimate wife; if I don't help you, who will?"
"Exactly! Li Hong, just relax; we'll take care of everything. It's our duty as parents to worry about our children's weddings. You can rest easy," Lin Ruxian's Mother added reassuringly.
Li Hong smiled at the words and nodded in agreement.
He then exchanged opinions with the elderly couple regarding the specifications and arrangements for the wedding.
Lin Ruxian expressed her desire for a Western-style wedding, believing that a church ceremony with a wedding dress would be truly romantic. Li Hong, however, was indifferent to this; he thought it was foolish to get caught up in such details when it came to marrying his wife. Whether it was a Chinese or Western wedding, the real benefit was simply getting her to say yes, right?
However, this idea was met with unanimous opposition from Lin Ruxian's parents.
In the eyes of the older generation, marriage was a once-in-a-lifetime event that should not be dictated by personal whims.
As a result, the option of a Western-style wedding was swiftly dismissed.
After making a call to Lin Ruxian, she also indicated that she could accept this decision. Since Lin Ruxian herself agreed, they confirmed it would be a traditional Chinese wedding.
As for the specifications, the elderly couple stated that they would follow the wishes of the two newcomers. There was no way around it; Li Hong was currently in the spotlight, hailed as the leader of Virtual Era. Lin Ruxian was no slouch either; after her success in film and music, she had gained immense popularity.
The union of these two would undoubtedly be portrayed by the media as a super wedding. Given this, the elderly couple had no choice but to listen to Li Hong and Lin Ruxian's preferences regarding the wedding arrangements.
Lin Ruxian was uncertain; although she wanted an extravagant celebration, she also recognized that it might not be appropriate. Thus, she felt compelled to defer to Li Hong's judgment. Whatever Li Hong decided would be how things went.
Li Hong found this quite frustrating. Everyone seemed indecisive, and now the responsibility fell on him.
Well, truthfully, Li Hong was also hesitating.
Holding a low-key event had its advantages, but he wanted their most important day to leave some lasting impression. An extravagant affair would certainly be grand but could lead to unforeseen consequences afterward.
Both options had their pros and cons, but in the end, Li Hong chose to go for a grand celebration.
He didn't want to leave any regrets for their wedding due to a moment of hesitation. This was a once-in-a-lifetime event, and it had to be done right.
After Li Hong made his decision, he clearly saw that Lin Zhengfeng and his wife both breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed they also hoped for a grand celebration. After all, it was their daughter getting married; even though they were extremely satisfied with the son-in-law, they felt something was missing if the wedding wasn't splendid.
When Li Hong informed Lin Ruxian of his decision over the phone, there was a long silence on the other end.
Just as Li Hong thought Lin Ruxian had hung up, a faint voice like a mosquito buzzed through.
"Thank you."
Li Hong chuckled lightly. "Thank you for what? Don't you like it?"
"I do like it, but I still want to say thank you."
