As the year drew to a close, the capital city grew noticeably quieter. Many who had traveled from afar in search of wealth had already begun their journeys home. Even those involved in the underworld were no exception.
Flower Snow Moon was strict with her subordinates, yet she was always benevolent. With many having returned to their families, the security of her villa had weakened considerably. Of course, Flower Snow Moon would rather admit that even with iron walls and copper walls, this handsome young man before her could still enter as if it were an unguarded realm.
He had once severely injured that madman and had effortlessly escaped by jumping from a building.
So when Politeness sat calmly across from Flower Snow Moon, she knew something significant was about to happen.
Flower Snow Moon spoke directly about Politeness's identity, but Politeness merely shrugged, noncommittal. He wore beige casual pants and a dark jacket, with a few flakes of snow still clinging to his hair, defiantly untouched by the warmth of the greenhouse.
Flower Snow Moon felt a pang of frustration; her expression remained composed, but inside, waves of turmoil surged. From the moment Politeness appeared, she sensed the air around her seemed to thicken, an inexplicable pressure rising within her. Politeness had remained silent until now, yet Flower Snow Moon dared not make a move.
She knew that as long as this young man across from her wished it, she could be dead in an instant. Flower Snow Moon did not fear death, but she certainly did not want to die without understanding why. Perhaps if she found an opportunity to reach for the gun in the drawer, there might be a slim chance for resistance. But for some reason, she did not want to take that step just yet—it was a choice made only when all others had failed.
For reasons unknown, a hint of amusement flickered in Flower Snow Moon's cold eyes. The smile spread from her brow to her lips, and soon a clear, melodious laugh echoed through the room like a refreshing spring.
She picked up the cup on the table and took a sip of warm water—a habit of hers. As for red wine or similar drinks, unless it was a formal occasion, she never touched them.
Seeing this, Politeness raised an eyebrow slightly.
“I’m curious,” he said. “You come visiting late at night—not just to settle the score for that shot you fired at me, right?”
A few months prior, in an alleyway in the capital, Flower Snow Moon had shot at Politeness. Though it had missed its mark, it had stopped him from further “torturing” Jufeng.
Politeness chuckled at her words; his smile seemed harmless and innocent. Any ordinary girl might have fallen into this gentle trap.
“I never expected you to remain so calm upon seeing me. In the past, I never cared to deal with women, but you seem to have changed my perspective.”
“Oh? Is that so?” Flower Snow Moon raised her brows slightly. “But the madman would never think that way. In this regard, you truly fall short of him.”
At her words, Politeness's expression darkened instantly; however, after a brief moment, he regained his composure.
"You have to admit, I really admire you. Facing such a perilous situation, you still manage to stir people's hearts in search of opportunities. Your fighting spirit surpasses that of many men. It's just a pity that your provocation is useless. Whether I am better than him can be seen from that day's fight; in the end, he was the one who needed rescuing."
Flower Snow Moon tilted her head, helplessly forcing a smile. This Politeness was truly difficult to deal with.
"Then let's change the subject. What is your purpose for coming here today? To kill me, or something else?"
"I won't kill you." Politeness shifted positions in the chair. "I’m just here to keep an eye on you for the night. That's all."
"Keep an eye on me?"
Flower Snow Moon was surprised at how simple those three words sounded, but what hidden meaning lay behind them?
Her intersection with Politeness probably began with Jufeng, but if he was watching her all night, did that mean he intended to target Jufeng? Perhaps so, but it wouldn't be that simple. She had already introduced Situ Yu to Jufeng as support; even if she was bound, Situ Yu could still operate freely. The other party wouldn’t go far when they had someone close at hand.
That meant the issue wasn't just with Washing City. Besides being Jufeng's friend, she was also one of the Eight Kings of Hua Gang. Was the other party aiming at Hua Gang?
Thinking of this, Flower Snow Moon felt a deep shock within her; anyone bold enough to target Hua Gang must have an enormous appetite!
"I want to know, who sent you?"
As soon as Flower Snow Moon finished speaking, the room fell into a moment of silence. After a while, Politeness slowly replied, "It’s the Unification Alliance!"
It was actually the Unification Alliance!
Flower Snow Moon's mouth fell open in disbelief at the news she received from Politeness. The three major Underworld giants in Huaguo: Hua Gang controlled the Northeast, Unification Alliance held the Northwest, and United Heart Association ruled the South; they had maintained a balance for many years. What courage did the Unification Alliance have to dare disrupt this equilibrium?
"Doesn't he fear that United Heart Association will benefit from his actions, along with backlash from those mid-sized gangs?"
Flower Snow Moon scoffed, "With such wolfish ambition, he might choke on it himself!"
Looking at the slightly flustered Flower Snow Moon across from him, Politeness knew that she found it hard to accept this reality. However, deep down, she must understand that since the Unification Alliance had taken action, they must have a solid assurance of victory; otherwise, who would willingly disrupt their comfortable lives?
Understanding was one thing, but acceptance was another. He knew that Flower Snow Moon was waiting for him to provide a more detailed explanation.
Politeness sighed. "You schemers really are hard to understand."
"Well, the Unification Alliance has colluded with Prairie Wolf, sending a special force into the Northeast to create chaos from within. Their main forces are tied up in the north with you all. Meanwhile, the United Heart Association is busy dealing with overseas threats and has no opportunity to play any tricks here. As for their base in the northwest, they've hired a bunch of assassins from the wanted list and have already eliminated a few who were stirring up trouble. The rest are likely just trying to save their own skins and won't think about rising up."
After finishing his explanation in one breath, Politeness felt a bit parched and reached for the cup of water that Flower Snow Moon had just used, downing it in one gulp.
At that moment, Flower Snow Moon was still immersed in digesting Politeness's information and couldn't focus on the fact that he had drunk from her cup.
Prairie Wolf was a medium-sized gang in Northern Huaguo, second only to the three major powers, and in some aspects even surpassing them. Northern Huaguo is the Mongolian grassland, which has expanded significantly after changes in the global situation. Prairie Wolf dominates this area, making it difficult for gangs like Hua Gang to infiltrate.
Previously, Prairie Wolf had maintained good relations with Hua Gang; how could they suddenly betray them this time?
Although Flower Snow Moon found it hard to accept, upon reflection, she realized the intentions behind the Unification Alliance's plans. Her delicate hands clenched tightly behind the table.
"But there's one thing I don't understand. Since you're part of the Unification Alliance, why would you target a madman? Does the Unification Alliance really worry that an inconspicuous gang might ruin their plans?"
Politeness was secretly enjoying the pleasure of drinking and the faint fragrance lingering in the water when he suddenly heard Flower Snow Moon's question. His moment of indulgence was interrupted, leaving him feeling slightly embarrassed. Fortunately, Flower Snow Moon was lost in thought about distant battlefields and didn't notice anything unusual.
Politeness coughed lightly and said, " Jufeng's father is the Chairman of the Greater China Economic Alliance. If the Unification Alliance wants to infiltrate the financial sector and gain substantial financial support, they must act against Jufeng. Without that money, they wouldn't dare start a war."
"Oh, no wonder the Unification Alliance can afford so many assassins; it seems Prairie Wolf and overseas forces have also benefited quite a bit," Flower Snow Moon said with an expression of realization. But then she seemed to remember something and quickly asked, "But if you didn't get anything from the madman, how did you acquire this money?"
Thinking about this, Politeness put away his nonchalant demeanor and said, "I'm just an outsider assassin; there are some things they don't tell me. Even about tonight's operation, I only found out at nightfall. But I heard that Jufeng's father... should be gone."
Upon hearing this dreadful news, Flower Snow Moon fell silent for a long moment, her face turning pale with shock as she became lost in thought.
Jufeng and Flower Snow Moon grew up as childhood friends, and Father Ju's attitude towards Flower Snow Moon was infinitely better than his towards Jufeng. During the years Jufeng was absent, it was Flower Snow Moon who continued to show filial piety on his behalf.
"Sigh!"
After a long silence, all that came was a lament.
"With Uncle gone, the madman will truly go mad."
Flower Snow Moon spoke these words with an unusual calmness, as if recounting a trivial anecdote. Yet, to Politeness's ears, it seemed to carry boundless malice.
"Yes, those in High Position never believe that we assassins can make any decisive impact. No matter how skilled an assassin is, they are still just one among the crowd. But what they don't realize is that if you drive someone mad—especially a ruthless expert—the consequences are beyond what they can bear."
With a sigh, Flower Snow Moon seemed to release all her combat strength. This time, she had completely relaxed, waiting for that person to return and take charge of everything.
After all, wasn't her involvement in the Underworld for this very purpose? Hua Gang had fallen; so be it. It was just a pity about those familiar faces.
"Did you send someone to assassinate the madman?"
"It should be the Grassland Gang's people. Apparently, Prairie Wolf has pressured all the gangs in Washing City to unite against him."
"Hmph, a bunch of rabble."
"…"
"I want to know what kind of person you really are. Why spare my life? I don't believe your boss would show such mercy."
"Me? Perhaps it's because I wanted to leave some room for maneuver. To be honest, I'm a bit lost."
"Lost?" For the first time that night, Flower Snow Moon stood up and walked to the window, gazing at the vast expanse where black and white intertwined endlessly. She couldn't help but exclaim, "It seems the madman was right when he told me that after he was injured and no matter who you were before or who you belonged to at that time, in the not-so-distant future, you will be his."
“Oh? He has such foresight?”
Politeness also walked to the window, standing side by side with Flower Snow Moon, their gazes seemingly fixed on the distance, yet also drifting away.
“Since you can’t make the decision, I’ll make it for you. I’ve already informed my subordinates; news of your failure will spread quickly.”
Flower Snow Moon appeared to be lightly detached from the situation, but Politeness suddenly radiated a murderous intent. However, Flower Snow Moon remained unfazed.
After a long while, Politeness’s aura finally weakened. “I never expected that I wouldn’t even know when you signaled. It seems tonight, you have won.”
“No, you are mistaken.” Flower Snow Moon turned around, unwilling to let Politeness notice the sweat soaking through his clothes. The intensity of Politeness’s killing intent was overwhelming; how could an ordinary person withstand it? Even Fiery Beauty struggled to hold on.
“This isn’t about winning or losing. I just want to ensure that fewer people die tonight.”
