In the past six months, Jufeng had faced an increasing number of perilous encounters. If taking down the leaders of the Red Gang and the Red Wolf Gang was merely a light skirmish, then the thirty-person volley from Canglang One Floating Life was akin to a tempest. There were also narrow paths at the grave on the mountainside in the capital, and meetings at the Starlight Ranking in the Snow Moon villa. All these experiences had forged Romain's character; while it might be an exaggeration to say he remained unshaken amidst storms, at least he maintained a calm facade.
Romain did not step forward but instead pulled Chuyang behind him, giving Bill a reassuring glance before sizing up his opponent.
The Azure Dragon Monk.
"I used to think that monks should be in temples, diligently practicing meditation, with kind faces and occasionally fierce expressions like that of a wrathful deity. But standing before me is someone who shatters my previous understanding; it seems I have been quite ignorant."
The Azure Dragon Monk's eyes widened slightly, and he secretly became more alert. He was an unrepentant villain, yet his cunning was top-notch. Arrogant yet cautious, he was a difficult adversary. He certainly would not underestimate this young man before him; he recognized him as the one who had recently outperformed Jinhai Industries at the Huankezhao bidding conference. He was also certain that there should have been no prior interaction between them, which only heightened his curiosity and caution.
"To be honest, you are one of the few people who have caught my attention. Just from firing a few shots from a pirate ship, you've tracked me down here. You must have already visited Sick Tiger. I don't blame him; betrayal is nothing to be ashamed of—I do it often myself. What I don't understand is what gives you the confidence to barge in here with just two people and a child. Has the world changed so much that young people are this self-assured?"
Romain shrugged nonchalantly and replied, "You've been holed up in this desolate place for too long; it's easy to lose perspective. I'm equally curious about what benefits those companies on Earth have offered you that make you willing to serve them."
At Romain's words, the Azure Dragon Monk's previously calm demeanor suddenly cracked, revealing a glimmer of menace. After a long pause, he murmured, "It seems I truly underestimated you."
Romain shook his head and said, "That's not important. What matters is that since you're in it for profit, I believe you shouldn't kill me. Instead, let me go back; I can help you counteract them later. When profits roll in, your life will be much easier. What do you think?"
Romain narrowed his eyes with a smile that resembled that of a dubious uncle trying to lure an unsuspecting girl. However, after a moment of silence, the Azure Dragon Monk suddenly burst into laughter.
"Haha! Although your offer is tempting—if it were someone else speaking, I might even believe it—you are different. Because people's eyes cannot deceive others. Your eyes tell me that you have no intention of cooperating."
"Well," Romain chuckled helplessly, "since I've been told since school that I'm not good at acting, it seems I've been exposed right away. Since we can't come to an agreement, does that mean you're not planning to let us go?"
"What's your opinion?" the monk asked ominously.
Jufeng shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly and said, "Well then, it seems we'll have to meet with real guns blazing."
"Real guns blazing?" The Azure Dragon Monk seemed to have heard the funniest joke in the world, but before he could laugh, his pupils suddenly constricted. He shouted "Get down!" and quickly dove to the side.
At that moment, the mech behind Jufeng came to life, moving without a pilot. Its arm lifted, and a heavy machine gun began to fire. In an instant, several people fell to the ground, unable to rise again.
"Ah!!!"
The chaos erupted as if a single spark ignited a powder keg. The entire factory was thrown into disarray, with people tumbling over one another amidst the cacophony of screams, gunfire, and wails. It was impossible to distinguish one sound from another, and Jufeng and his companions vanished from sight.
The activated mech quickly fell silent after its initial outburst, but soon after, more mechs began to launch unexpected attacks. This left the Azure Dragon Monk's side in complete turmoil. Most people fled in panic; who could remain calm when there was a mech nearby that might go on a shooting spree at any moment? Did they think the Master of Yanhuang City was just some cheap trick?
The Azure Dragon Monk felt a surge of anger—no, fury. He had always tried to keep everything under his control. Even when collaborating with merchants from distant Earth and inviting them into his lair, he had made thorough preparations. In this chaotic pirate world, what he truly feared was not the self-righteous Cosmic Police but individuals like Jufeng —those who dared to fight fiercely and rarely backed down. Yet even so, he only felt anger; he did not believe that this reckless young man he had seen in photos could turn the tide. Even if he possessed some tricky skills, this was still his territory.
The Azure Dragon Monk stepped outside and ordered two helicopters to be dispatched. Soon enough, they roared in from the distance. The factory's roof was movable and had already opened up earlier; now the helicopters circled above like predatory birds waiting for their chance.
Finally, the Azure Dragon Monk felt somewhat steadied as he looked into the factory with a sinister smile.
