Two helicopters hovered overhead, rumbling ominously, instantly shifting the balance of power on the battlefield. The saying "the higher you stand, the farther you see" was vividly illustrated here; no matter where Jufeng and his companions hid, they would be pinpointed by the helicopters and reported to the Gunner below. The two sides coordinated seamlessly, quickly wearing Chuyang down. After a prolonged struggle, with Jufeng and Bill blocking the way, Chuyang finally had a chance to adjust his mech and take down the two helicopters. However, he found himself cornered with nowhere to retreat, dozens of menacing gun barrels aimed at him, ready to turn him into a sieve at any moment.
As the ceiling descended, the sky above transformed into a starry expanse, dimming the surroundings except for two searchlights. Suddenly, a third bright object appeared, and looking down revealed a fierce face.
"Tsk tsk! I never expected that on my turf, it would take dozens of men to bring you to this point. I was thinking of keeping you alive for a hefty ransom, but now I've changed my mind. Cash can be earned again, but leaving potential threats alive could cost me dearly."
Jufeng remained protectively in front of Chuyang. During their escape moments ago, he had casually dealt with several Gunners without sustaining any injuries. Bill, however, looked worse for wear; one side of his face was swollen, and he had been shot in the shoulder, blood dripping from his arm and fingers onto the ground, staining a large patch of blue bricks.
Human strength has its limits; fists cannot compete with bullets. If faced with a hundred strong men wielding Steel Blades, Jufeng might still have a fighting chance. Unfortunately, reality rarely aligns with wishes.
"Do you regret it?"
Jufeng ignored the Azure Dragon Monk's smugness and instead asked Bill with concern.
Bill gritted his teeth against the pain from his metal wounds and forced out a smile. "No regrets! Sometimes experiencing setbacks makes me feel like the entire universe owes me something. I can't even enjoy sleeping with two women in one night! Ever since I met Brother Jufeng and heard Brother Ming talk about your experiences, I realized how childish I used to be; my mental block has finally been lifted. Over the years, I've seen many leaders who wouldn't dare step into battle themselves; they hide behind others like cowards. So dying here isn't unjust; at least I've experienced bravery! Ha ha, spit."
Bill's final laugh twisted his mouth in pain as he spat out a strange-colored viscous liquid. Surprisingly, upon hearing Bill's mockery, the Azure Dragon Monk did not get angry; instead, he watched with interest as if it were an impressive performance by a trapped beast. He decided to give them more time and refrained from issuing lethal orders.
Since Bill was injured, Jufeng didn't reach out to pat him on the shoulder but offered him a brotherly expression instead. Then Jufeng turned and crouched down, gently brushing aside the purple hair from the girl's forehead and wiping her round nose warmly. "Why do you look so grim? It's much better when you smile; come on, give Daddy a smile."
In such dire circumstances, one would expect an unknown girl to burst into tears. Yet despite her pale face showing no fear at all amidst the gunfire and chaos of war—after all, she was the one controlling those mechs—their opponents were not just flesh-and-blood beings but also two hungry hawks in the sky.
Faced with her father's request now, Chuyang still hesitated to argue. Her cold face slowly formed a stiff smile that lasted only a moment before her expression shifted dramatically as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Daddy, I'm sorry! It's all Chuyang's fault. If only I could grow up faster, I would definitely defeat them! Wuwu... Wuwu..."
Jufeng couldn't bring himself to cry out loud, fearing it would upset his father. Instead, he stifled his sobs, gasping intermittently. No matter how strong a man might be, in moments like this, even the toughest could turn tender. He pulled Chuyang into an embrace, his voice hoarse as he spoke, "Don't blame Chuyang; it's all my fault. I couldn't let her live comfortably as a princess. It's my fault that she has to lose her loved ones again. Promise me you'll live well from now on."
Releasing his hold, Romain stood up and turned to Azure Dragon Monk, his tone growing cold. "Azure Dragon Monk, if you don't trust me, that's fine; I can stay here forever. But let me give you a piece of advice: don't go too far. Many people know my whereabouts. If you can't provide a reasonable explanation, I guarantee your days are numbered. So let my daughter live and send her to Earth. I can offer you some leverage in exchange for a lifetime of riches!"
"Oh?"
Azure Dragon Monk didn't dare take this lightly. Although he didn't fully believe Romain's words, he had to consider the power behind him. So he fell into deep thought.
In the distance, the sound of airplanes roared as they approached, filling the scene with noise and chaos.
Just as Azure Dragon Monk was about to agree to Romain's proposal, suddenly the noise from above grew deafening. Two mechas appeared in the sky; one swung its arm and sent two planes flying away while the other leaped into the fray, positioning itself between them. It bent down and then ran off, glancing back only to find that Romain and the others had vanished.
For a long moment, everyone present was stunned into silence.
Eventually, it was Azure Dragon Monk who regained his composure first and shouted, "Damn it! What are you all staring at? Get in the mechas and chase after them!"
...
The two mechas that had appeared soared at full power across the fields until they reached a secluded area—a valley where two other aerial mechas were stationed. Once they landed, they released Romain and his companions from their arms.
What had just transpired left both Azure Dragon Monk and Jufeng bewildered. Romain had prepared himself for death but hadn't anticipated this sudden turn of events. How did that saying go? It truly was a case of finding light in darkness!
As the mecha doors opened, two men jumped down—one of whom was a familiar face to Jufeng.
"To be honest, I was thinking of countless possibilities on the way here, but I never expected it to be you. Even when I finally saw you, I still couldn't understand why you would save me. Are you perhaps addicted to being caught in the act?"
The man chuckled softly, his face slightly flushed. It was none other than the Pirate Leader, who had been caught by Jufeng not long ago on the fourth floor and had received five stab wounds.
"Hehe, the situation is urgent, so I'll keep it short. I haven't made much of a name for myself as a pirate, and I want to follow you. After all, we have no past grudges. What do you say?"
Jufeng was taken aback by the straightforwardness of the visitor, momentarily stunned. However, having weathered many storms, he quickly regained his composure. After pondering for a moment, he replied directly, "No problem. I'm Jufeng; they all call me Brother Jufeng."
"Brother Jufeng! My name is Liu Gulang; just call me Lone Wolf."
They met in the enchanting setting of Flower Snow Moon, getting to know each other under the brilliant starry sky. In the future, they would accompany each other in the vast universe and create a magnificent era together!
