At the dining table of Azure Waterside, an oppressive atmosphere had never been felt like this before. Zhu Yao remained seated on the sofa, keeping her distance from the silent battlefield in the kitchen. Strangely, the cold-hearted female assassin, who usually displayed indifference, revealed a sly smile in the corner.
At the table, Jufeng sat at the head, flanked by Sister Dai and Sister Xue on one side, and two Peerless Children of Human Ghost Great on the other. The only sounds were the crisp clinking of chopsticks against plates and bowls, along with the rustling of chewing.
The situation unfolded in a peculiar manner as Jufeng introduced everyone to each other. Consequently, Chuyang's gaze shifted entirely from Jiang Xue to Lu Qijia, becoming as cold as ice.
Although Chuyang called Jufeng "Dad," it made no sense for her to refer to Lu Qijia as "Mom," especially since they had no legal ties. For a girl, being unmarried with a child was not an ideal situation. Thus, during the introduction, Jufeng suggested that Chuyang call Lu Qijia "Sister Lu." However, unexpectedly, Chuyang broke the silence with a startling "Aunt Lu."
What a blow! Jufeng immediately felt a chill run down his spine.
Lu Qijia paused but did not show anger; instead, she accepted the title with a warm smile and even praised Chuyang's beauty. Yet, when she caught Jufeng's eye in passing, she shot him a subtle glance that sent another chill through him.
The next events were straightforward. Chuyang wore an unfriendly expression, facing Lu Qijia's "enthusiasm" with cold indifference. With little common ground for conversation, they exchanged minimal words. Jiang Xue found it amusing and watched Sister Dai struggle without intending to help. Liu Xing felt shy upon suddenly encountering two beautiful women; now seeing the girl he cared about in a bad mood left him unsure of what to do, so he kept his head down and filled his mouth with food.
Finally, after what felt like nearly twenty years of the longest breakfast ever, Jufeng and Lu Qijia washed the dishes together in the kitchen. Jiang Xue hurriedly cleaned up before rushing off to attend a mechanical design seminar. Chuyang and Liu Xing were led away by Zhu Yao to watch television. As for what was on their minds while watching TV, it remained a mystery to others.
"Your daughter seems to have some issues with me," Lu Qijia remarked lightly as their hands intertwined under the warm water while washing cups and plates. What Jufeng had expected to be a storm turned into a rather gentle question.
Jufeng thought for a moment and began to piece together some reasons. " Chuyang is someone we encountered on the spaceship; we still don't know where her home is or who her relatives are. Those armed personnel were very concerned about her situation. I suspect Sister Ni's background is quite special; perhaps she has recalled something she doesn't wish to share with us. Regardless of everything, she's just a poor child. Since I decided to take her away from that spaceship initially, I won't abandon her now. It's normal for kids to have some emotions; our Jia'er is so understanding that we shouldn't be upset."
Lu Qijia let out a soft hum that lingered sweetly in the air; Jufeng could tell there was little anger left in her tone.
"Am I really that unbearable? Is it so hard for you to see? Hmph! I'm not angry at all; maybe just a bit jealous. It's clear she relies on you heavily. But then again, I feel fortunate that my partner can wholeheartedly care for a poor child he just met; how could he possibly be indifferent towards Jia'er?"
Lu Qijia gazed at him affectionately, tiptoeing to peck Jufeng gently on his resolute face, filling the air around them with happiness.
...
When Jufeng and Lu Qijia emerged from the kitchen, an unexpected guest arrived at the villa—Lezheng—bringing news that forced Jufeng to leave in haste.
Just as they were about to meet, Lu Qijia felt a pang of reluctance in her heart, but how could she disregard the bigger picture? After a brief embrace, she stood at the entrance of Azure Waterside like a waiting bride, gazing into the distance for her husband’s return.
Instead of heading back to Canglang One Floating Life, she went straight to the airport and arrived in Yang City within a couple of hours. On the way, Jufeng carefully reviewed the two reports sent by Xue and Flower Snow Moon, his brow furrowing deeper with each page.
The Unification Alliance, which had been suppressed all along, was finally starting to fight back.
Upon reaching Yang City and arriving at the current headquarters of Hua Gang, Shengming Pavilion, Flower Snow Moon was remotely controlling the situation while Elder Yuan, Situ Yu, and other elite remnants of Hua Gang held the front lines.
“How is Hua Gang doing?”
As soon as they entered, the two comrades who had fought side by side exchanged no unnecessary words; a mere glance sufficed for their greeting. Thus, Jufeng's first question went straight to the point.
“Not very optimistic! Mu Zhongde is an unpredictable person. Just yesterday he was surrounded on all sides and in dire straits, yet he still insists on not using his own resources and continuously seeks external reinforcements. Previously, he sought help from Island Nation to restrain the United Heart Association, and now he has even called upon Russian Tycoon Axe to move southward and tie up Xue’s forces. This allows the Unification Alliance to collaborate with Prairie Wolf against us. We have overlooked foreign powers for too long, which left us unprepared for Blazing Axe’s sudden appearance. Currently, all our positions on the prairie have been wiped out, and now the border of Liaoning Province is also precarious; it is unlikely we can hold out much longer.”
Flower Snow Moon succinctly summarized the current situation. Mu Zhongde was the Grand Leader of the Unification Alliance and was primarily responsible for Hua Gang's downfall. After listening, Jufeng fell into deep thought while Flower Snow Moon stood before a table covered with detailed maps of battle situations, frowning silently as updates continued to come in.
After a while, Jufeng slowly lifted his head as if he had formulated a plan in his mind.
“People are fundamental; even if we lose territory, we can reclaim it. Without people—especially the veterans of Hua Gang—our chances of victory become slim.”
At these words, Flower Snow Moon's eyes brightened. She had never been soft-hearted but was reluctant to sacrifice anyone needlessly. She had already considered this before; now that Jufeng voiced it, she felt reassured. She took out her phone and made a call, instructing them to fight if they could but retreat if they couldn't—no need to cling stubbornly to a losing battle—before finally easing her mind slightly.
Once Flower Snow Moon hung up, Jufeng continued, “Mu Zhongde’s seemingly clever moves are merely digging his own grave. Snow Moon, let me ask you: what do you think is most important when playing gangsters in Huaguo?”
Flower Snow Moon was no fool; she keenly sensed that Jufeng's emphasis lay on "Huaguo." With her sharp intellect and striking appearance as Fiery Beauty, she quickly responded.
“It’s the government!”
Jufeng smiled brightly. “Close enough; more precisely, it’s patriotism! My biggest gain from my trip to Jiangnan was understanding the country’s bottom line; this will determine our ultimate fate. Mu Zhongde has repeatedly crossed this line—he truly does not live up to the name his father gave him. Let’s set aside short-term gains and losses; let him run rampant for a bit longer. When his tail is high enough, that will be when he exits this stage.”
“I believe someone will come looking for me soon. You stabilize Hua Gang's structure first; I will then provide an opportunity to express loyalty to those above us. Blazing Axe seems quite formidable; I want to see if these newcomers can truly suppress me, this sitting tiger!”
"Don't worry, just stay safe."
"I'll be fine, of course. But you need to take care of yourself. By the way, why haven't I seen Politeness? Isn't he supposed to stay and protect you?"
Jufeng shouldn't have brought it up, but now that he did, Flower Snow Moon's expression immediately turned cold. She casually took out a finely crafted box from her pocket and threw it at Jufeng, saying stubbornly, "I haven't finished with you yet! Just take care of your Jia'er and stop meddling in other people's affairs. I sent him to protect Elder Yuan."
Jufeng pretended to be hurt as he caught the box, then chuckled lightly. He didn't want to bring up the matter of Flower Snow Moon and Politeness; while he might not fully understand others' feelings, he could vaguely guess some things about Flower Snow Moon. He played with the box in his hands, knowing that inside was a brand new handgun with top-notch performance. However, it wasn't very useful for him, so he planned to give it to Civilization.
"You know, you have a sharp tongue but a soft heart. You clearly care a lot about your brother, yet you act indifferent on the surface. Why bother? Anyway, I'm leaving now. I'll call Starlight Ranking back later; make sure to arrange things and protect the important people. Mu Zhongde is ambitious and will never miss an opportunity for assassination."
Flower Snow Moon nodded in agreement. Jufeng hurried off towards Washing City, heading straight for the largest stronghold at the border of the two provinces—Pingcheng!
