On the battlefield, sometimes everything changes in an instant, while at other times it remains unchanged; this is determined by the strategies of the commanders. However, during tonight's Battle of Chaosheng, both sides had nearly exhausted all their strength. With the arrival of Guan Chao and Hugeson from the Wolf Guard, if any twists were to occur, it would not be within the control of the commanders but rather depend on the soldiers amidst the stormy chaos, drawing upon years of experience and ultimately revealing hints of the outcome soon.
The Unification Alliance and Prairie Wolf still had over a hundred Brothers stationed around the outskirts of the battlefield. Ren Hongbo stood behind a Wolf Guard, his gaze fixed and unblinking, his initial confidence now replaced by a hint of unease. Although Guan Chao and Hugeson had joined the fray, curbing Wu Li and several unfamiliar experts' rampage against their allies, the overall situation remained unclear. Ultimately, it was the thirty or so formidable members of Hua Gang that posed a significant threat; each individual was not only exceptionally strong but also displayed remarkable teamwork, forming a solid fortress where one plus one equaled far more than two.
What a tough nut to crack!
...
The battle had already lasted six or seven moments, and soon it would be time for Jufeng and Yu Jianyuan's two-hour discussion. However, as Jufeng surveyed his side's situation, "bleak" was hardly an adequate description. Only five members remained from Hua Gang, while Wu Li and Guan Chao's fight had reached a fever pitch; blood covered everyone as their once elegant attire was now reduced to tattered rags fluttering pitifully in the cold wind.
Some horrific wounds were clearly visible even in the inky darkness, blood flowing steadily from them. The advantage of numbers finally revealed itself; the Unification Alliance outnumbered Hua Gang by more than ten to one. Although they were all ordinary strong men, they could occasionally disrupt Wu Li's strikes. Guan Chao was never one to engage in fair combat; whenever he spotted an opportunity, he would inflict another wound on Wu Li. While Wu Li had also reciprocated with injuries of his own, they were always fewer than those inflicted by Guan Chao.
Meanwhile, the battle between Prairie Wolf's Wolf Guard and Chang Guohong was equally intense. Chang Guohong initially approached his fight with a dismissive attitude towards the Wolf Guard, diverting some energy to his other disciples in hopes of minimizing their opponent's numerical advantage. As time passed, Hugeson noticed Chang Guohong's lack of focus. Thus, the ferocity of Prairie Wolf began to surface. To Chang Guohong, this indifference felt like a grave insult; as a wolf with bloodlust, he could not allow the honor from the prairie to be trampled before him. Suddenly filled with killing intent, he unleashed attacks that were fierce and relentless.
Caught off guard by Hugeson's sudden aggression, Chang Guohong felt bewildered and did not understand why this prairie man was so enraged. Had he known that his "indifference" was perceived as an insult leading to Hugeson's wrath and fierce intent to kill, he would have tried harder to appear "serious" from the very beginning.
In his fury, Hugeson struck with lethal intent, forcing Chang Guohong to focus entirely on defense without daring to let his mind wander. At this point in their battle, both sides had suffered losses and inflicted injuries upon each other; however, compared to Guan Chao and Wu Li’s situation, theirs seemed much more optimistic.
First, their animosity was not as deep-rooted as that between Guan and Wu; second, their fighting styles differed significantly—Guan and Wu fought like generals risking their lives while Hugeson and Chang Guohong were skilled fighters from different backgrounds. The former fought with abandon focused solely on victory or defeat while the latter sought opportunities for clever strikes before retreating gracefully.
Jufeng skillfully dodged several attackers while taking down two henchmen and observed the battlefield dynamics along with the time remaining. Once Wu Li entered combat mode, he became single-minded; thus seizing opportunities would require Romain’s own judgment. He aimed to minimize resistance for Hua Gang’s Brothers before Yu Jianyuan arrived.
As Romain fought and moved through the crowd like a breeze, he discreetly approached Zhu Yao’s side. Zhu Yao appeared fatigued; although she bore few new wounds, her old injuries from earlier in the day were still troubling her. Her fitted clothing soaked through with blood made her pale face look even more unhealthy under the moonlight.
With a leap forward, Romain struck down several henchmen surrounding Zhu Yao. He gently wrapped his free arm around her delicate waist, granting her a brief moment of respite.
Zhu Yao looked at her master in confusion; her dehydrated face bore an unhealthy pallor that tugged at anyone’s heartstrings.
Romain held Zhu Yao close as he continued moving through the throng like a gust of wind. He did not lower his face but maintained a calm smile throughout.
On that moonlit night by the lakeside in Jiangnan when she first met Jufeng, he wore that same serene confidence as if untouched by worldly burdens that weighed heavily on others—like willow fluff drifting effortlessly.
She did not understand this man before her but felt comforted by his presence; there was something soothing about him!
In a moment of confusion, the voice of Jufeng echoed in his ears.
"Once tonight's events are over, I'll sit down and let you appreciate it properly."
A cold wind suddenly rose, but it was not just chilly; it carried a hint of warmth. The moon, drifting among the stars, seemed to don a thin veil of crimson, much like a beautiful woman cradled in the moonlight.
The night scene was enchanting.
"Don't linger in battle; go protect Wu Li. Just make sure to keep him safe."
Zhu Yao's expression tightened as she floated out from Jufeng's embrace. Using the force he had thrown her with, she swiftly crossed through a cluster of blades and, with a flip of Refined Moon, quickly arrived at Wu Li's side.
At the moment Zhu Yao left him, Jufeng flicked his wrist, sending the Mountain-Cleaving Blade flying toward a man brandishing a weapon across from him. The blade struck the man and sent him flying before returning to Jufeng's hand, now with the blade edge facing forward.
Jufeng's gaze gradually sharpened as he began to take things seriously. He started running through the crowd. Yes, despite being surrounded by enemies, he was indeed running, his steps light and drifting like a leaf on the wind. After dodging more than ten people, Jufeng leaped onto several enemies' shoulders, skimming lightly like a dragonfly touching water, landing gracefully between Chang Guohong and Hugeson.
The two were locked in fierce combat when Jufeng appeared unexpectedly. By the time Hugeson realized what was happening, Jufeng was already in front of him. Instinctively, Wolf Guard raised his Steel Blade to protect his vital points, but he did not anticipate that the Steel Blade had already found its way into his abdomen.
Hugeson stared in disbelief at the blood gushing from his wound; he could not comprehend it. As he fell, only one phrase reached his ears—his last lingering thought in this world.
"Go help your subordinates and minimize casualties."
...
After swiftly dispatching Hugeson with a single strike, Jufeng did not pause and quickly surged toward the encirclement of people. The crowd truly resembled an ocean—an endless tide that seemed impossible to escape. Yet Jufeng moved like a ship riding the wind, resembling a white ribbon gliding through water, akin to a koi fish before the Dragon Gate. Many members of the Unification Alliance and Prairie Wolf did not even see him coming; he charged through without reason or restraint, moving faster than one could imagine.
In an instant, he broke through the throng and reached the other side.
However, there were no flowers on this shore; another Wolf Guard awaited him. Ren Hongbo was taken aback by this suddenly aggressive young man and found himself retreating involuntarily. The Wolf Guard beside him wore a grim expression but immediately stepped forward to confront Jufeng.
Seeing the Wolf Guard approach him, Jufeng's smile deepened suddenly, causing unease to settle in the heart of that Wolf Guard.
Jufeng placed his left hand to his mouth, and a loud whistle echoed through the night. Suddenly, the wind picked up in the night sky, stronger than before, arriving without warning.
It came abruptly, not unlike a meteor, yet faster than one. A cold light streaked across the night sky, cutting through Ren Hongbo's vision, gliding past him in the final scene of his existence in this world.
The Wolf Guard halted in its advance, staring in shock at the Wolf General lying in a pool of blood behind them, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
At that moment, the area around the factory suddenly erupted into chaos. Hundreds of people surged in from unknown origins, each one fierce and vigorous, drawing their blades to strike at the enemy. The two groups, exhausted from a night of conflict, were no match for them; many had already lost their will to fight and had forgotten how to resist.
A howl rang out as the Azure Wind Antelope landed gracefully on Jufeng's shoulder. Blood dripped steadily from its razor-sharp claws.
The Battle of Chaosheng was coming to an end.
