The concert was in full swing, and as night fell and the lights began to shine, it was time for Sister Five to take the stage.
The harnesses were all securely fastened, and every safety measure had been double-checked. The lighting and sound systems were still undergoing final adjustments, while everyone behind the stage was busily preparing.
Sister and Sister Dai were nearby, adjusting their breathing. Despite having debuted some time ago, this was their first concert of such scale. Every first experience brought a mix of anticipation and nervousness. Sister, having just endured the grueling high school exams, felt particularly excited.
“Sister Dai, where’s your husband? He wouldn’t miss coming to see me, would he?”
Liu Xiao tried to make small talk to ease her nerves. Ever since Jufeng and Lu Qijia confirmed their relationship, she had taken to teasing them. After all, Sister Dai was the first among Sister Five to end her single status, and Jufeng had once been a bodyguard for Five Sisters Group, spending a lot of time with them; thus, it felt natural for her to bring it up.
Lu Qijia playfully scolded her, “Stop calling him your husband; that’s not how you refer to someone. You’re being silly.”
Liu Xiao smiled sweetly. As the most cherished member of Sister Five, everyone indulged her. Whenever she flashed that charming smile, even the greatest anger would dissipate.
“Right, right! Sister Dai is biased now, defending her boyfriend! So, is my Brother Feng coming or not?”
Seeing Sister Five’s playful demeanor, Lu Qijia decided against further lecturing. When it came to Jufeng, her heart swelled with sweetness, reflected in her eyes that sparkled with happiness.
“He will come,” she said. “But he’ll be in a place where we can’t see him while he quietly cheers us on.”
Liu Xiao suddenly understood but huffed in annoyance, “Being mysterious—Brother Feng has learned bad habits.”
Sister Dai smiled gently at this. There was something she hadn’t shared: not long ago, Jufeng had told her he would surprise Lu Qijia with an unexpected gift at the end of the concert.
What could it be? Lu Qijia dreamed happily about it.
…
In an inconspicuous corner of the audience, a burly man sat next to a graceful woman holding a Blue Cat plushie. They were almost lost in the sea of people. Their chosen spot ensured that few would notice them, especially with Huaguo's five most youthful and captivating women about to appear—who would have their minds elsewhere?
Lance crossed his arms over his chest and casually gazed at the distant stage. Suddenly, his ears perked up as he caught a faint sound amidst the noise. He leaned in closer for a moment before accurately pinpointing the disturbance.
“They're here,” he said softly to Vera beside him.
Vera continued to smooth out the Blue Cat plushie in her delicate hands as if Lance's words hadn’t piqued her interest at all. After a brief pause and sensing Lance's concern, he spoke again.
"Do you really not need me to help him?"
Vera's gaze swept over the crowd, landing on the stage that was still somewhat clear. Suddenly, the venue plunged into darkness, all the lights fell silent, and even the sea of people ceased its surging.
A dazzling performance was about to begin.
In such an atmosphere, Vera's voice unfurled slowly, but ultimately only two people could hear her.
"Some things must be completed by him alone; no one can help him, not even us."
As her words fell, a beam of light pierced through the dark world. Five ethereal women suddenly descended onto the stage, their arrival so abrupt that it momentarily stopped hearts.
For a brief second, there was silence, then "Wow!!!" The crowd surged once more, a wave of excitement swelling and crashing, echoing and reverberating. The atmosphere became so intense it felt like it could tear hearts apart, boiling over like a raging fire that could not be quelled!
The concert had finally officially begun. Meanwhile, not far away, in a corner where few could see, another performance interwoven with red and black also commenced.
...
In Jufeng's vicinity, on one side were five: Zhu Yao, Tong Bailong; on the other side were civilization, Politeness, and Liu Xing.
It was quite disharmonious—a boy only as tall as an adult's waist stood amidst a group of adults wielding swords and knives on such a dark and windy night.
Yet it was also harmonious; the presence of A Squad radiated in perfect coordination. Even over at Liu Xing's side, there was no hint of diminishment. He held a Tang Dao, a sword that seemed disproportionately large for his body, yet he wielded it effortlessly. His gaze remained fixed ahead, alert for any potential threats that might appear at any moment; he had to stay fully focused without blinking.
Five glanced at Liu Xing and said, "This kid reminds me of myself back then. It's a pity he has a master; otherwise, I would definitely steal his love."
Politeness chuckled proudly and declared loudly, "No way around it; I got there first. You can only envy me now."
Everyone openly expressed their admiration for Liu Xing; however, he remained unaffected by their praise. With his sword ready and vigilant, his focus was particularly intense and serious.
Jufeng was quite pleased and thus felt happy. When he was happy, he tended to act unusually—like now.
"Liu Xing, I want to ask you a question: why are you standing here with your Tang Dao?"
Jufeng's questioning came a bit faster, as he sensed the presence nearby drawing closer.
Liu Xing, upon hearing this, finally showed a slight change; the tension in his aura relaxed a little, no longer as tightly wound.
He pondered the question carefully for a moment before slowly replying, "Half of it is to protect Uncle Feng; he has treated me very well. The other half is for..."
Suddenly feeling a bit shy, Liu Xing lowered his voice significantly and said, "To reassure Chuyang."
Upon hearing this, everyone couldn't help but laugh together—not mockingly, but with affectionate laughter. Politeness laughed the loudest and added with a teasing tone, "Just like me."
Liu Xing felt even more embarrassed.
Jufeng also chuckled and said, "If you succeed today, I will recognize you as my Godson. That way, you and Chuyang will have more time together in the future."
At these words, Liu Xing abruptly lifted his head, his eyes shining with brilliant light. After confirming that Uncle Feng had not deceived him, he nodded heavily and suddenly shifted his aura back to its initial state of vigilance.
More focused, more serious!
Not far away, the sound of footsteps gradually became clearer, and some outlines began to take shape.
There were smooth curves without any sharp angles; the moonlight illuminated them, reflecting a bright glow.
One, two—A Squad—two rows...
More and more light illuminated this area, and the chilling atmosphere grew colder under the reflected moonlight.
It was Buddha—the Ascetic from the northwest—who had spent years practicing in high plateaus, deserts, Gobi regions, and mountains.
Because of their lack of desire and demands, they were focused; and because of that focus, they were strong. So strong that even just one-tenth of their presence could stand toe-to-toe with Jufeng's side.
Upon seeing the enemy, Liu Xing tightened his grip on the hilt of his sword even more. He noticed that these bald individuals were just as focused as he was.
Thus, he had to be even more serious if he wanted to become Uncle Feng's Godson and spend more time with Chuyang.
To achieve this goal, he must win.
Jufeng suddenly felt that he should prepare a gift for Godson, so he delivered his final words before the battle began.
"If Star becomes my Godson, I will give you the Snowy Dawn Sword."
The Snowy Dawn Sword is a legendary weapon that has been passed down for thousands of years in Huaguo, and it belongs to the Hall of Offerings of the Unification Alliance. Jufeng's implication was clear.
Thus, Liu Xing had yet another compelling reason to win.
Therefore, he must win even more.
