The heavy darkness was the prelude to dawn.
This was a phrase that Civilization particularly liked, often overheard by Jufeng. The Underworld Young Master did not know its origin, yet shared the same aesthetic as Civilization.
The heavy darkness had now passed, and a beautiful dawn was about to illuminate the entire world.
Silently and without a trace, he had vanished when the first rays of the morning sun began to light up the world from the east. Coming from the night, moving in the night, nothing could hinder his steps, even if love remained unclear and chaotic.
Zhu Yao returned to the room, where Tong Bailong had finished cleaning up the leftovers and was now dozing off. In the next room, two children were sound asleep, and the two people by the window had lost interest in continuing to admire the view outside.
Jufeng could see the faint traces of tears at the corners of the girl who had been following him, like blurred remnants of a romantic tale, telling a story that was on the verge of being spoken but held back.
Jufeng did not ask, for some matters could only be resolved by certain people; it was fate, and no extraneous branches should disrupt that harmony.
It was bright now; everyone should be leaving. The first sleepless night had passed, and how to spend the next night—today's night—remained an unknown.
However, just before leaving, an unexpected guest arrived. Upon seeing this person, Jufeng felt a mix of emotions. He thought it should have been expected but also felt it was somewhat surprising.
She had a simple name—Mu Shu.
In the hotel lobby, Jufeng saw this ordinary girl still wearing her ponytail and jeans. Perhaps due to not having seen her in a long time, he found Mu Shu slightly more pleasant to look at than he remembered. She just seemed a bit unkempt; her clothes were covered in dust, and her complexion appeared somewhat yellowed...
A thought flashed through Jufeng's mind as he felt a sudden rush of wind at his feet and moved closer to Mu Shu.
It seemed just right; the girl immediately fainted into Jufeng's arms.
Looking down at the unconscious girl in his embrace, Jufeng shook his head helplessly. It seemed that the journey home would indeed be full of twists and turns.
Chang Guohong brought all the troops back to Washing City, leaving only Chen Tan Hua and Gou Hongbo by Jufeng's side. Gou Hongbo, an outstanding student from Azure Wind Antelope who shone during the concert night, had already become the vice-captain of Azure Wind Antelope. He graduated with top marks in Intermediate training and was currently the only student to enter advanced training.
The three men took Mu Shu to the hospital, and the doctor's examination left Jufeng both amused and exasperated. She had suffered from malnutrition combined with sudden intense exercise, leading to shock. After receiving intravenous fluids, she gradually regained consciousness.
By the bedside, Jufeng basked in the sunlight while watching Mu Shu, whose haggard face bore a hint of guilt as she avoided meeting Jufeng's gaze.
"It seems your father’s absence hasn’t improved your situation at all. They don’t even feed you properly. Didn’t anyone come to help you?"
Jufeng's teasing words made Mu Shu's expression stiffen. She found this man utterly detestable—cynical and superficial—how could she allow herself to be ensnared by him?
Unwilling to share the same space with Jufeng, Mu Shu got straight to the point about her purpose for coming here despite her weakened state.
"Regarding Mu Zhongde, it was my mistake. However, since he has released me, I still have the ability to regain control of the Unification Alliance; I just need some time."
Jufeng was taken aback; he never expected Mu Shu would rush to see him just to apologize and offer a remedy.
From what Jufeng understood, Hua Gang had released Mu Zhongde, regaining control of the Unification Alliance, with little connection to Mu Shu. Why would she come to apologize? Besides, their agreement had merely been verbal; Jufeng never thought that a spoken promise would compel an enemy to keep their word.
Indeed, Jufeng had never held much regard for Mu Shu. Yet her solitary arrival here challenged that notion.
A fleeting moment of astonishment crossed Jufeng's mind before he looked at Mu Shu with curiosity, making her feel uneasy.
"Are you still a virgin?"
Mu Shu's already pale face turned a deep shade of purple. She struggled to calm herself before finally responding, "Yes."
Jufeng was quite satisfied with this response, feeling that the ordinary girl seemed to possess a certain charm, a traditional kind of charm.
"Are you truly trying to make amends for the promise you made to me earlier?"
Mu Shu replied calmly, "A promise must be kept, and mistakes must be corrected. What do you think it is?"
As Mu Shu spoke, a hint of disdain naturally emerged, as if Jufeng was particularly contemptible in this matter.
Even Jufeng himself felt a sense of being inferior, as if he were worse than a pig or a dog.
Shaking his head, Jufeng found it amusing; serious people indeed had a contagious quality.
"So how long do you plan to take to regain control of the Unification Alliance? And how much help do you need from me?"
Mu Shu did not hastily make any assertions. She lowered her head and thought seriously for a moment before saying, "I don't need any help from you. As for time, two months."
Regaining control of the Unification Alliance in two months was no small challenge for Jufeng. Initially, the two major factions had united and struggled to defeat them, which had nearly cost Jufeng his life. Yet Mu Shu dared to make such a bold claim; given her temperament, she should be able to accomplish it. The only question was what support she had left after losing her position in the Unification Alliance.
Seeing Jufeng silent for a while, Mu Shu understood he was doubting her abilities and added, "I have some foundations in the southwest. Moreover, the current Unification Alliance is different from before; there are still few people whom Mu Zhongde can truly control."
Jufeng's doubts dissipated, and he no longer hesitated. He decisively said, "Alright, but I still need to send someone to monitor you. Otherwise, if you end up betraying me, I can't agree to that!"
Under Mu Shu's furious gaze, Jufeng left the hospital room with an air of nonchalance. However, in Mu Shu's eyes, his reckless demeanor was truly infuriating.
A short while later, a man walked into the room, standing by the window with his hands clasped behind his back. After glancing briefly at Mu Shu, he quietly closed his eyes, as if entering a meditative state.
However, Gou Hongbo was filled with doubt. He thought to himself that the woman lying on the bed was of no remarkable beauty and was even the daughter of an enemy. Why had Brother Jufeng repeatedly emphasized the need for him to protect her?
Truly, it was a world beyond the understanding of ordinary people.
Meanwhile, Mu Shu didn’t even pay attention to who had entered the room; she stared blankly at the ceiling of the hospital, lost in her thoughts.
...
After a restless night, Jufeng finally flew back to his base in Liaoning Province. However, instead of immediately checking on his organization in Washing City, he headed to Yang City to attend to more urgent matters.
Of course, this also served as a signal to the outside world. The person Jufeng was meeting had military connections, and he was quite interested in how this would stir up waves and unfounded speculation throughout Huaguo's Underworld.
