Jufeng reluctantly agreed to Vera's request, but just as she was about to leave, he called her back.
"There's no need to be so cold-hearted," Romain said. "I just agreed to this, and you want me to take on the Yamamoto Clan without knowing anything about them? You have to at least give me a brief introduction; otherwise, I won't even know who I'm dealing with."
Before Vera could respond, Lance, the tall man behind her, scoffed disdainfully and shot Romain an eye roll, clearly looking down on him as if he were a country bumpkin stepping into the city.
However, it wasn't entirely Romain's fault. He had never focused on such matters because, for him, many of these big names were just gimmicks—like thin paper that could easily be crumpled. When the Hurricane was first established in Washing City, he never imagined he would have anything to do with the Unification Alliance. Yet in the end, he was the one who brought it down.
To Romain, everything should unfold naturally. There was no need to delve into how vast this underworld was; only the land he physically stepped on could be considered true scenery.
He returned Lance's eye roll and turned his attention back to Vera.
Vera hesitated for a moment before sitting down again and said coolly, "The Yamamoto Clan is the largest gang in Yingguo and ranks among the top five worldwide. You can imagine its scale. The current leader is Yuta Shouroku, from the same family as Utada Hikaru."
Vera's introduction was somewhat vague, but Romain was genuinely surprised to learn that the Vice Captain of the Holy Judgment Council had such a powerful background.
Seeing that Vera had no intention of elaborating further, Romain realized that if he didn't ask questions himself, this European Blue Cat would likely leave it at that.
So he voiced his confusion.
"By your logic, Utada Hikaru must be very important to Chapter Six. Why did it take so long for the Yamamoto Clan to come after me for revenge after I killed him twice? Don’t give me any nonsense about mercy or consideration; a world-class gang like yours surely wouldn't have any unnecessary thoughts about my Hurricane!"
Vera ignored Romain's sarcastic tone and directly answered his question.
"Every gang has its own history of development. The Yamamoto Clan was formed in response to external pressures; several gangs united to resist outside threats. Over time, they grew stronger and reached their current scale. From its inception, the Yamamoto Clan has not been governed solely by its leader. In Huaguo terms, it's not a centralized power. In fact, all world-class gangs face this issue when they reach a certain bottleneck: it's difficult for a leader to maintain absolute authority."
At this point, Vera glanced at Romain involuntarily. Having spent two months closely interacting with her, Romain immediately understood her implication—if Hurricane wanted to continue growing stronger, it would inevitably have to adopt a decentralized approach.
During his time in school, Romain had gained insights into political history and understood Vera's meaning well. As organizations develop to a certain extent, the power of second and third-in-command also grows. This increase in power dynamics can lead to factionalism and hidden dangers; if any decision touches upon someone's interests, backlash is inevitable. This could explain why the Yamamoto Clan seemed so slow to react.
However, Jufeng did not dwell much on the future; he believed that his group of brothers would follow him easily, and if there were truly a future, he was even more convinced that there would be a way out.
Jufeng gave Vera a glance, signaling her to continue. Seeing that Jufeng was not troubled, Vera felt somewhat reassured.
She continued, "Under the president of the Yamamoto Clan, there is a title known as Underboss, who is the head of the entire organization’s executive department. The executive department is the highest command center of the organization, wielding significant power. The current Underboss is named Ikeda Kenji, who comes from an ancient family in England."
"According to customary practice, the Underboss is generally the heir to the president. This means that when Yuta Shouroku steps down, Ikeda will take over. However, the current situation is that Yuta Shouroku is still in his prime and will not retire for at least another decade or unless there are significant changes. Meanwhile, Ikeda Kenji is ambitious and has already amassed considerable power. Thus, they view each other as rivals, a conflict that has been ongoing for some time. The reason for their delay in taking action this time likely stems from Ikeda causing quite a bit of trouble for Yuta."
Having listened to Vera's explanation, Jufeng finally gained a more comprehensive understanding of the Yamamoto Clan. Since they were not united as one entity, even if they appeared like a dragon, there would be moments when they could be caught off guard on the beach—those would naturally be the best opportunities to strike.
As Jufeng pondered these matters, a thought suddenly flashed through his mind. He furrowed his brow and looked at Vera with suspicion.
"Miss Vera seems to know quite a lot about the Yamamoto Clan. It appears your desire to take them down isn't something new. I can't shake off this feeling of being deceived."
Initially, after Jufeng had repelled a unit of Blazing Axe in Pingcheng, Vera had approached him directly, which had left him with some doubts. In hindsight, it seemed that this European Blue Cat had already begun plotting back then.
Vera was momentarily taken aback by his words; she hadn't expected her brief comments to convey so much information to Jufeng. However, after a brief pause, she regained her composure and replied lightly, "This was always meant to be a win-win situation. From the beginning, you never truly trusted me either; we are merely evening things out."
Having spent half a year together, Jufeng and Vera were relatively familiar with each other. However, even when Vera ventured deep into Terrorist territory alongside Jufeng, he did not have complete trust in her—perhaps even less than he had in Claudia.
Although Claudia was sharp-minded and carefree, Vera was a leader of a gang; behind her lay the livelihoods of thousands.
Jufeng chuckled lightly before adopting a playful demeanor and feigned grievance as he said, "I can't help but think how beautiful you are while you show affection towards someone like me. If I were to let down your feelings, wouldn’t that be unforgivable?"
Vera did not look up; she kept her head down as she stroked Blue Cat's fur. After a moment of silence, she replied indifferently, "It doesn’t matter whether it’s light or dark; using each other is fine as long as we have common goals. At least I can believe one thing: our objectives will always align."
With that said, Vera turned and walked away. Jufeng watched her retreating figure with a helpless smile.
"Never forget; she is the renowned Blue Cat of Europe."
Vera stepped out of Canglang One Floating Life, not heading directly back to her room but instead standing on a patch of grass. Not far away, Jufeng's Azure Wind Antelope was gracefully surveying its surroundings. Upon seeing this, the Blue Cat in Vera's arms quickly wriggled free and transformed into a streak of blue lightning, darting straight towards the Azure Wind Antelope.
It was evident that during the time Vera and Jufeng were away, the two creatures had formed quite a bond.
A faint smile appeared on Vera's eternally cold face, but unfortunately, no one was there to appreciate it.
Destined to admire herself in solitude for a lifetime.
In truth, there was something Vera wanted to say earlier but kept it to herself, silently adding in her heart.
"I am certain our purpose in this life is the same!"
