Jufeng and Chen Tan Hua, both possessing extraordinary perception, could clearly hear the conversation at the entrance despite being several meters away from the door. 0

Upon hearing the police officers' voices and their discussion, Romain turned to Chen Tan Hua, a hint of worry in his eyes. 0

After all, his encounter with Wu Yi was merely a fleeting one. He hoped that she wouldn’t dwell on their brief connection; otherwise, it would only entangle him in a web of emotional ties. There was no solid relationship to support them, so Romain was concerned that Wu Yi might betray them for her own safety. 0

However, Chen Tan Hua gave Romain a reassuring look, easing his anxiety. He didn’t trust women who used relationships as bargaining chips, but he did trust Chen Tan Hua. Their connection with Wu Yi ran deeper, and he believed her understanding of the situation was more accurate than his own. 0

Listening intently, they heard Wu Yi's response at the door. 0

With a graceful sweep of her damp, dark hair, Wu Yi said indignantly, “Is this how the police can act with such impunity? Just waving a piece of paper to search someone’s home? Is there no regard for human rights anymore? I’m just a weak woman at home; if you want to search, go ahead.” 0

After finishing her statement, Wu Yi turned with an air of charm and walked back into her room, leaving the two police officers feeling quite embarrassed at the doorway. 0

If possible, they wouldn’t want to be so rough; however, who knew what orders had come down from above that compelled them to carry out such harsh commands? Following orders was their duty, so they had to grit their teeth and conduct a cursory search. 0

Wu Yi's apartment wasn’t particularly spacious—two bedrooms and a living room—but the kitchen and bathroom were quite bright and well-appointed. They hurriedly searched through all the likely hiding spots and confirmed there was nothing amiss before apologetically leaving. 0

As soon as the door closed behind them, three figures appeared in the living room. 0

Yang Kan had his mouth covered by Jufeng. He had been struggling to breathe for some time now. Even though Romain hadn’t released his grip yet, Yang was on the verge of suffocation and was thrashing about desperately. 0

Seeing this, Romain finally let go of him and tossed Yang onto the sofa like a sandbag. He then looked at Chen Tan Hua and Wu Yi standing awkwardly in the living room as the atmosphere grew tense again. Shaking his head with a smile, he resumed their earlier conversation: “Could I trouble you ladies to prepare us a simple breakfast?” 0

Wu Yi appeared somewhat dazed, lost in thought. It wasn’t until she heard Romain calling her name that she snapped back to reality. 0

"It seems like it has always been you bothering me. Why should I cook for you?" 0

She had clearly agreed just moments ago, but now, for some reason, her mood had suddenly shifted, leaving Jufeng taken aback. 0

He glanced at Chen Tan Hua, his eyes questioning. 0

Chen Tan Hua couldn't possibly decipher a girl's thoughts so easily; it could only be attributed to the ever-changing nature of girls. Now that she was under someone else's roof, in order to avoid provoking her host and getting kicked out, Chen Tan Hua could only step forward and say, "Um, let me handle it. I'm quite good at cooking. Feng Shao hasn't had a home-cooked meal in years; why not give it a try?" 0

With that, Chen Tan Hua headed towards the kitchen. Jufeng shrugged, his brow furrowed as he couldn't grasp Wu Yi's intentions. He decided to lie down on the sofa and take a break. 0

Seeing that no one was watching her, Wu Yi thought about her earlier statement at the door. Surely it had earned their trust. 0

But could they really trust her so easily? Since the police had begun searching every household, it indicated that whatever these two had done had caused quite a stir. Typically, those who attracted such attention were bloodthirsty maniacs or murderous demons. Yet they not only spared her life but also granted her freedom. She couldn't tell if they were confident or simply foolish. 0

Wu Yi watched the busy figure in the kitchen and suddenly felt an inexplicable discomfort. She knew he was merely a transaction partner, so why did her gaze keep drifting toward him? 0

Could it be that he offered her something different in that regard? Wu Yi pondered to herself as an involuntary flush crept up her cheeks. She hurriedly walked toward the bedroom. 0

Chen Tan Hua's cooking skills were indeed impressive; judging by the time alone, she was clearly someone who cooked often. The aroma of the dishes wafting through the air made Jufeng forget everyone else and focus on satisfying his own hunger first. 0

At that moment, Yang Kan was already feeling ravenous. Watching Jufeng eat with such gusto and smelling the delicious scents drifting toward him, he disregarded his current situation and prioritized filling his stomach first. 0

"Hey, Jufeng, can you let me have a bit too? It's not fair to let Witness go hungry. Otherwise, I won't have the strength to go to court and accuse Huankezhao!" 0

Jufeng was not one to show pity. Yang Kan had helped Huankezhao relay messages to the Terrorist, aiding and abetting evil, which was unforgivable. He glanced at the meager food on the table and snorted coldly, "Just pray that there's something left for you." 0

Yang Kan looked at the food with a pitiful gaze, his stomach protesting loudly. With no other choice, he could only swallow his saliva in an attempt to soothe his hunger. 0

At that moment, Chen Tan Hua was already in Wu Yi's room. 0

"I just made some porridge and a bit of vegetables. Come out and eat something," she said somewhat stiffly, feeling that since she was staying at someone else's home, she should be polite. 0

Wu Yi lay on the bed, flipping through a magazine with little interest, not even glancing at Chen Tan Hua. Coldly, she replied, "I'm not hungry." 0

No sooner had she spoken than her stomach betrayed her with a loud growl that echoed clearly in the silent room. 0

After a night of tossing and turning and hardly eating anything besides some drinks, how could she not be hungry? 0

Chen Tan Hua didn't mean to laugh; she just stood there awkwardly. 0

Wu Yi felt irritated that her stomach was so uncooperative. After a moment of silence, she suddenly threw the magazine onto the bed and got up like a determined woman heading for the door, muttering to herself. 0

"It's all my family's food; why shouldn't I eat?" 0

There wasn't much breakfast left, but there was indeed enough for Yang Kan. Jufeng temporarily loosened Yang Kan's bindings. Once he had licked every plate clean, he tied him back up again. 0

Wu Yi seemed to be on holiday today, so after finishing her meal, she returned to her room to catch up on sleep. The sunlight outside was already blazing. 0

After tidying up the dishes, Chen Tan Hua went out to scout the situation. When he returned, he shook his head; the area outside was crowded with people, and there was no way to take Yang Kan out for now. 0

All they could do was wait, and the best way to pass the time while waiting was to sleep. 0

In the bedroom, Wu Yi was sleeping, while in the living room, three big men were also asleep. Yang Kan had initially planned to sneak away while Jufeng and Chen Tan Hua were napping, but as soon as he tried to move, he felt a sharp pain from a toothpick thrown by Jufeng that pricked his skin. After five toothpicks later, he dared not move an inch. 0

He slept from morning until evening, even skipping lunch. 0

When Wu Yi came out of her room, she found Chen Tan Hua already cooking. Jufeng had turned on the television out of boredom, and he and Yang Kan were staring intently at the screen, which was showing a children's channel. 0

After some thought, she changed her clothes and joined Chen Tan Hua in the kitchen to prepare dinner. She comforted herself by thinking that she didn’t want Chen Tan Hua to make a mess of her kitchen. 0

The two worked together quite harmoniously, and before long, they had prepared a relatively sumptuous dinner. 0

Although Wu Yi appeared cold on the surface, she was quite considerate and made an extra portion for Yang Kan. 0

"I didn't expect you to be so kind-hearted. You really don't have to cook for this guy; he won't starve," Jufeng said while eating. 0

Wu Yi replied coolly, "I just don't want to see him disgustingly licking my plate again; that's all." 0

Yang Kan, who had initially felt grateful, suddenly found his heart sinking at the words he heard. He thought to himself that anyone who could associate with Jufeng and Chen Tan Hua was truly no good. 0

After dinner, it was Wu Yi and Chen Tan Hua who cleaned up the dishes together, followed by the usual boredom of passing time. 0

At eight o'clock in the evening, the four of them sat on the sofa, one of them tied up tightly, staring intently at a cartoon called Mecha Warrior on the television screen. 0

As night deepened, it was almost time for bed. As usual, three grown men would end up sleeping on the sofa in the living room. However, tonight there was an unexpected twist. 0

Wu Yi returned to his room earlier than usual. About half an hour later, he suddenly burst through the bedroom door and shouted at Chen Tan Hua, who was still glued to the Children's Channel. 0

"Come in." 0

Chen Tan Hua was slightly surprised, while the other two on the sofa chuckled mischievously. It was rare for them to unite against a common foe in this situation. 0

Rolling his eyes at Jufeng, Chen Tan Hua gracefully walked into the bedroom. Moments after the door closed behind him, soft gasps began to emanate from within. 0

Jufeng turned off the television and focused his mind, immersing himself in the world of martial arts, ignoring the commotion outside. 0

But Yang Kan was having a rough time. He simply couldn't fall asleep. The sounds of struggle from the bedroom were relentless; even after an hour had passed, intermittent moans and noises continued to filter through. He looked down at the tent pitched beneath him and gazed forlornly out at a sliver of moonlight streaming through the window, tears unexpectedly spilling from his eyes. 0

"This is so inhumane, so cruel; it’s just damn heartbreaking!" 0

After a night of turmoil, the next morning, Chen Tan Hua appeared radiant and full of energy. In contrast, Yang Kan in the living room looked utterly exhausted, like a wilting willow tree covered in dust under the scorching sun—listless and with dark circles under his eyes that were particularly pronounced. 0

Breakfast was once again prepared by Chen Tan Hua. Wu Yi had to go to work today, and because he was too tired last night, he woke up later than usual. He hurriedly ate a bite and rushed out the door. 0

Chen Tan Hua appeared once more to check the situation. Just like yesterday, there was no sign of relaxation, so they could only continue waiting here. 0

Time passed quickly, and when Wu Yi returned in the evening, he was carrying a good amount of vegetables and fresh meat. Previously, he had been living alone at home, but now with three more men around, the stored food was quickly running out. 0

The night was much the same; it was still the Children's Channel, and Mecha Warrior had already risen from Scarlet Level to Azure Rank. 0

Every night was filled with revelry, and Yang Kan grew increasingly haggard. After a week, he had lost quite a bit of weight. 0

It was already past seven when Chen Tan Hua went outside to check the situation again, and finally, there was some sign of relaxation. 0
