The night was as dark as ink. Chen Tan Hua looked at Wu Yi beside him, his eyes reflecting a hint of emotion. After a moment, that expression turned into hesitation and struggle, but eventually, it revealed a sense of determination.
He gently pressed his lips against Wu Yi's soft, delicate ones before turning and getting out of bed, quietly closing the door behind him.
In the living room, Jufeng and Yang Kan had already awakened and were ready.
"Have you made up your mind?" Jufeng asked, noticing the slightly forlorn look on Chen Tan Hua's face. It was the first time he had seen such an expression from him since they met.
Chen Tan Hua nodded, his gaze sweeping across every corner of the kitchen and living room. Then, he leaped out of the window with Jufeng, preparing to leave this place, to part from the woman he had spent countless nights with.
As the first rays of morning sunlight streamed into the bedroom, Wu Yi, eyes still closed, reached out beside her and realized something seemed amiss. Suddenly, she opened her eyes wide.
Glancing outside at the dawn light, it was just barely brightening; it wasn't even time to start cooking yet. But how could Chen Tan Hua have vanished from her side?
She hurriedly got out of bed, slipping on her slippers, and made her way to the living room.
It was empty.
She moved to the kitchen.
Still empty.
Panic-stricken, she searched every corner of the house but still couldn't find the familiar figure she had grown accustomed to over the past week.
Dazed, she sank onto the sofa, her gaze vacant as if devoid of light.
Time seemed to stretch on; perhaps only a few seconds had passed—certainly no more than two minutes—when a soft "tick" sounded as a tear fell onto the genuine leather sofa.
"Tick-tock," countless tears flowed like broken pearls onto the sofa, and in the blink of an eye, Wu Yi had turned into a weeping mess.
Why? Why did you suddenly appear in my life, only to vanish just as abruptly?
What is the reason behind all this?

Yang Kan was right; the entire Large Magellanic Cloud had become Huankezhao's territory. Yet Jufeng and Chen Tan Hua still chose to stand against Huankezhao, which was akin to striking a rock with an egg.
However, this wasn't the first time Jufeng and Chen Tan Hua had engaged in such futile endeavors. Years ago, they had infiltrated an underground Arms Factory heavily guarded by hundreds, amidst a hail of bullets and explosions, and the current situation was not much different.
The two of them, along with Yang Kan, quietly slipped away from a place that had no door—climbing over walls and fences was already second nature to them.
After carefully confirming their surroundings, as Chen Tan Hua had said, the alertness now was significantly weaker than at the beginning.
In a dark alley outside the district wall, there were only two police officers patrolling.
The morning was filled with drowsiness; at the moment when the two officers stifled yawns, Jufeng and Chen Tan Hua leaped from the district wall onto the roof opposite.
They then descended along the rooftop, easily evading the two officers' watchful eyes.
Once on the ground, Jufeng glanced at Yang Kan, who lay slumped on his shoulder with his voice suppressed. Annoyed, he said, "You lazy bum really has it easy. We're carrying you while we’re exhausted to death, and you don’t have to lift a finger."
Yang Kan intended to retort but opened his mouth only to find no sound coming out.
The morning streets were tranquil and serene; however, for some reason, Jufeng felt an unsettling eeriness in this tranquility.
He looked at Chen Tan Hua, who also sensed the atmosphere and couldn't help but furrow his brow.
The two of them stood still, paralyzed by the uncertainty in their hearts, waiting to discover something.
Suddenly, a gust of wind swept through the morning air.
Jufeng felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest, a surge of crisis washing over him.
But at that moment, burdened by Yang Kan, his movements had become sluggish, as if he could not evade the impending danger.
In a critical moment, a hand suddenly appeared from the side and forcefully pushed Jufeng away.
It was just a slight push, but that small action saved Jufeng's life.
A dull thud echoed as a bullet, seemingly from nowhere, struck Jufeng's shoulder.
Blood gushed forth, splattering into a vivid and haunting bloom.
Due to this impact, Jufeng could no longer support Yang Kan's body and let him fall heavily to the ground.
Chen Tan Hua reappeared, seizing Jufeng's body as it began to collapse, and in an instant, they were gone from their original spot.
Just as they left, another bullet whizzed by Jufeng, striking Yang Kan's body instead.
He was dead.
The sudden turn of events happened too quickly, leaving no time to think or react; Yang Kan had already succumbed to the mysterious bullet.
Chen Tan Hua was a master with firearms, so he immediately recognized it as a Sniper Rifle.
The enemy was at least five hundred meters away.
But none of that mattered now. Who fired the shot? Where were they? How did they know we were leaving from here?
There was no time to ponder these questions, as the gun in the darkness remained poised.
Chen Tan Hua was a martial arts expert, and at that moment, both his life and Jufeng's were in grave danger. He had to ensure they left this place first.
Suddenly, Chen Tan Hua unleashed his full power, vanishing from the street in an instant and darting around a corner.
At that moment, the third bullet arrived as expected, but it lodged itself into the wall, leaving an indelible mark.
Hear the Command watched the two figures disappear before his eyes and angrily tossed aside the Sniper Rifle.
Due to the force of his throw, the precious Sniper Rifle shattered into pieces, rendered useless.
His subordinates behind him trembled in fear, silent as they dreaded that Hear the Command would unleash his anger upon them.
After a long pause, Hear the Command regained his composure and addressed his subordinates.
"Notify everyone. The city is under lockdown for a search. I must find them."
One subordinate hurried off to carry out the order while Hear the Command fixed his gaze on the rising sun, revealing a sinister smile.
Chen Tan Hua ran at full speed, carrying Jufeng on his shoulder, blood still gushing from the wound, seemingly unaware of any fatigue.
As he turned a corner, he suddenly noticed that there were still people on the street searching for them. Therefore, despite the urgency of the situation, they could not afford to panic and act recklessly.
The power of the Sniper Rifle was incredibly formidable; for an ordinary person, being shot in the shoulder would likely result in the loss of that arm.
However, Jufeng was not an ordinary person. Sensing the impending danger, he had already taken precautions, turning his body to the side to avoid a direct hit.
Fortunately, the bullet struck his muscle and did not penetrate deeply.
At that moment, awakening from the pain, Jufeng struggled to get off Chen Tan Hua.
Chen Tan Hua stopped in his tracks, looking at Jufeng's shoulder as he drew out a dagger.
