In the Universal Building, the corridor twisted and turned, providing convenience for Jufeng and Wenming to evade detection, but also complicating their escape.
Fortunately, Wenming had lived here for eight years and knew every inch of the place, every nuance, like the back of his hand.
A bullet struck the camera at the corner of the corridor, and only then did Wenming and Jufeng's figures appear.
The bullet was fired by Wenming, but it was provided by Jufeng. Before coming here, Jufeng and Liu Gulang had confirmed repeatedly, and the latter assured him that they had indeed passed through Huankezhao's security check and brought it in.
"Eight years have passed, and your marksmanship is still as sharp as ever. It seems bringing a gun was indeed the right choice," Jufeng remarked.
Jufeng had taken down quite a few enemies along the way, using missiles. Although he hit his targets without fail, there was still a noticeable gap compared to Wenming's effortless precision.
Huankezhao was like a dragon's lair or a tiger's den, yet there was little worry on Jufeng and Wenming's faces. Instead, after years of not working together, they felt a sense of nostalgia for their past camaraderie.
Wenming reloaded his handgun with fresh bullets; the ammunition had been collected from their path of destruction. Hearing Jufeng's words, a reminiscent smile appeared on Wenming's face as he said softly, "In the past, I saved Brother Jufeng; this time, it's Brother Jufeng who will save me."
His tone carried a hint of self-reproach. Jufeng shook his head and replied, "Between brothers, there's no need for such formalities!"
Wenming understood that if emotions were sullied by words, it would truly be a sin. So he chose not to dwell on that topic and continued to forge ahead with Jufeng through the obstacles.
At that moment, Shangguan Wangyu had already reached his office upstairs. On the display screens before him were images from inside the venue and occasionally footage related to Jufeng and Wenming.
Tony stood behind Shangguan Wangyu, silent as a mouse. Vera and Jiang Xue had successfully left, but ironically, they themselves had been unable to intervene due to a group of children.
"Your Highness, I have just investigated. Those children are students from a nearby kindergarten who came out tonight for spring festivities. According to their principal, an official from the education bureau assigned a girl to oversee their activities; they are unclear about the specifics," Tony reported nervously.
Tony recounted his findings with trepidation. Although he felt he hadn’t done anything wrong, he knew that Shangguan Wangyu valued results over processes.
Sure enough, after pondering for a moment, Shangguan Wangyu said, "If you can't handle a group of children, how can you be entrusted with greater responsibilities?"
His voice lacked any overt anger but was flat enough to be suffocating.
Upon hearing this, Tony immediately bowed deeply in respect, not daring to breathe or even offer a defense.
After a while, Shangguan Wangyu noticed Jufeng and Wenming’s figures appearing on the third floor and instructed Tony: "I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself. Seal off the second floor; do not let them descend."
Tony was overjoyed upon hearing the news and quickly took his orders. He understood deeply that the Crown Prince was sparing his life, as it was far too easy to set up defenses at a staircase. As long as he led his team to stand there, even ten heavy machine guns would find it impossible to advance even an inch.
The Crown Prince's intention in keeping them on the third floor was clearly not just for show, but where he intended to go was beyond Tony's speculation.
As Tony set up defenses on the third floor, Jufeng and Wenming fought their way to the staircase leading from the third floor down to the second. However, as Tony had said, the firepower of his team was overwhelming; even a distance of just over ten meters was nearly impossible to cross.
The two found themselves at a corner of the staircase, where all the cameras along their path had been destroyed. Their situation was somewhat grim—though sweat did not pour down in torrents, it clearly clung to their foreheads and cheeks; there wasn't much blood on their bodies, but their clothes bore tattered marks from bullets and blades.
Wenming observed the density of gunfire in the distance, estimated their firepower, and then looked at Jufeng, shaking his head.
"This staircase is definitely not an option; we need to find another way."
Jufeng had just poked his head out to test the waters and reached the same conclusion as Wenming, so he agreed with Wenming's words and prepared to turn away from there.
But just then, suddenly from not far behind them, a man and a woman appeared.
Wenming raised his gun and instantly aimed at the two; if they dared to make any sudden movements, he was confident he could take them down in an instant. Fortunately, they stood still, seemingly only intending to speak with Jufeng and Wenming.
Upon recognizing the newcomers, Jufeng froze for a moment, and Wenming couldn't help but be astonished before exclaiming.
"How could it be you two?"
The man and woman were none other than the young couple who had been commenting on Wenming and Cao Ke's battle downstairs—a handsome man and a beautiful woman. The man had encountered Jufeng when entering, so it seemed there was indeed some connection among the four.
"Why wouldn't it be us?" said the young man named Star with a playful tone.
Wenming frowned slightly, unsure of their intentions. However, Jufeng was even more confused; although he had some suspicions about the man's identity, it seemed that Wenming knew him well.
"Do you know them?" Jufeng asked casually as his gaze swept over the couple.
Wenming nodded and introduced them: "This man is Zhan Xingzi, the heir of Universal Communications. The woman is his fiancée, Qing Qiu Bai, the only daughter of Universal Information."
Jufeng wasn't particularly surprised upon hearing about the man's identity since he had suspected it all along. However, he was taken aback when he learned about the woman's identity. He thought to himself that this young couple truly was a match made in heaven—unparalleled in the world.
Universal Communications and Universal Information were the third and fourth largest companies in Cosmos following Huankezhao and Universal Energy Corporation. Now that these two heirs had formed a solid bond, both companies would undoubtedly rise even further.
Jufeng was able to guess the man's identity due to a well-known issue: the close relationship between Huankezhao and Universal Energy Corporation, while their connection with Universal Communications had always been at a standstill. Upon reflection, it was clear that if the top fifty of Cosmos had truly banded together, the United Nations would likely face even greater defeat.
Universal Communications and Huankezhao seemed to exist on two parallel lines, forever without intersection, like fire and water. Therefore, it was only natural for them to seek him out now, as it was advantageous for him.
Jufeng thought this and couldn't help but smile slightly.
"It seems that here today, we need not worry about leaving."
The words were directed at civilization, but his gaze remained fixed on Zhan Xingzi, who, like Jufeng, smiled lightly in a rather frivolous manner.
"I will take my leave now; if fate allows, we shall meet again."
