Jufeng and Vera soared low over the treetops, listening to the sound of the pine trees swaying in the wind as they darted through the mountains, gazing down at the rugged cliffs. Once they had completely shaken off the Suihuan Army's gaze and reached a mountain peak, the sky had brightened significantly.
Atop the mountain, the sunlight was warm and the breeze refreshing; the sun hung high in the sky, and the remnants of smoke from earlier battles had dissipated, leaving a scene that was peaceful and clear.
The hurricane placed the selfless brother on the flat ground of the mountaintop, then leaped down from the mech after Vera.
Having just experienced a fierce battle, they were drenched in sweat, their clothes soaked through.
The wind at the summit was quite strong, causing their garments to flap loudly and evaporating their sweat quickly. As soon as Jufeng stepped off the mech, he couldn't help but shiver.
In that moment of shivering, the man whom Jufeng had saved knelt down.
Resolute and determined.
"What are you doing? Get up! How can I accept such a great honor from you!"
Jufeng placed his hands on the man's shoulders and gently pulled him up, despite his reluctance to stand.
The man suddenly broke down in tears, saying, "Brother Jufeng, I'm sorry. I caused you trouble. You could have left safely, but because you saved me, it led to this situation. Brother Jufeng, you should just let me die; why did you save me?"
The man wept bitterly, heartbroken. Their group had set out to help Jufeng and others escape, yet in the end, they had only dragged him down. How could he find peace with that?
However, Jufeng couldn't help but smile at the sight of this grown man crying like a lost child. More than anything, he felt warmth in his heart.
He patted the man's shoulder and said, "How can you think like that? Is my life more valuable than yours? If we were to be injured or sacrificed on the battlefield and I couldn't save you, then that would be one thing. But watching you fall to your doom—I truly cannot accept that! Besides,"
Jufeng paused for a moment and took Vera's hand as she approached him. A happy smile spread across his face as he continued, "I'm not alone; I have Sister Wind by my side. With fewer people targeting us, breaking through Huankezhao's defenses isn't an easy task."
The man continued to sob and sigh deeply until Jufeng and Vera managed to persuade him to leave.
As a mech roared away from the mountaintop, only Jufeng and Vera remained.
Jufeng looked at Vera beside him and said apologetically, "I'm sorry for leaving you behind just now. Did you blame me?"
Vera nestled in Jufeng's embrace, not directly answering his question but gently saying, "I didn't hear you earlier and chased after you. Can the wind be blamed for that?"
Upon hearing this, a warm current flowed through Romain's heart as he held Vera even tighter.
In her heart, Vera vowed that no matter when he might abandon her, she would never leave him again.
...
Missing the opportunity that came once every three months meant that if she wanted to leave again, she would have to wait another three months.
The energy of the mechs was limited, but fortunately, the enemy continued to come in waves, providing Jufeng and Vera with supplies to last through these three months.
Outside the bustling city lay a vast wilderness, with mountains and fertile lands.
In the endless expanse of the desert, sand dunes occasionally rose up, and fierce winds swept through. Behind one dune, numerous mech wrecks were scattered across the sandy ground, accompanied by distant cries of despair echoing across the Gobi.
Hurricane approached a Suihuan Army mech. Judging by its model, this mech was of a high level, at least Mid-Level Azure.
He controlled the mech to pick up a signal flare and then fired it into the sky, where it blossomed into a bright red flame.
This was a distress signal used by the Suihuan Army. Jufeng had initially been unaware of its meaning, but after a month of interactions with them, he had learned quite a bit about their situation.
Indeed, he was helping the Suihuan Army call for help because if he did not act, these people would soon be buried beneath the endless sands, leaving no trace behind.
After completing this task, Hurricane and Blue Cat took each other's hands and flew away from the sea of sand to experience the more vibrant scenery of Magellanic Star.
Shortly after they left, dozens of mechs arrived at the site to rescue their comrades and then vanished without a trace, leaving behind a field of wreckage.
After some time passed, a sudden gust of wind swept through, engulfing the area. Where it passed, only golden sands remained visible; even the wreckage could no longer be found.
A month had passed since Civilization and the others had left, and there were still two months until the next upgrade of the Global Defense System.
The endless blue sea surged with waves, occasionally crashing into towering swells, stretching as far as the eye could see.
Hurricane and Blue Cat danced across the surface of the water, while large fish leaped joyfully from the depths, breaking the surface to gaze at the azure sky.
With a loud splash, a powerful mech fell into the sea, struck by a wave that sent it plunging underwater.
More splashes followed as mechs could not withstand the assaults from Jufeng and Vera, tumbling into the water in utter disarray.
Under the combined might of two Crimson-Class Mechas, how could dozens of ordinary mechs hope to gain an advantage?
Fortunately, one of the standard functions of the mechs was amphibious capability. These mechs were true tri-service combat equipment, and those that fell into the water simply needed to wait for rescue.
Moments later, the surface of the sea became eerily quiet; aside from Hurricane and Blue Cat, no mechs remained afloat.
As usual, Jufeng found a mech without a designation and fired a signal flare before departing alongside Vera.
Before long, dozens of mechs from the Suihuan Army arrived to rescue those that had fallen into the water.
This situation was much more troublesome than in the desert; after all, sand was not comparable to water, and sand and water were fundamentally different.
There was still one month until the next upgrade of the Global Defense System.
During these three months of waiting, Jufeng and Vera lived this way—constantly moving through various beautiful landscapes while defeating enemies.
Yet because of each other's presence, their otherwise monotonous and mechanical lives felt long but never lonely.
"Wind, I really want to thank you. These past three months have been the happiest of my life. With your company every day, I truly feel content."
On The Night of Blossoms and Full Moon, Jufeng and Vera sat atop a mountain, gazing at the moonlight illuminating a sky full of stars as they confided in each other.
Because they were about to put an end to their lives over the past three months, they did not sleep, planning to engrave this night in their memories.
Ming Liming marked the moment when the protective system was upgraded once again. And this mountaintop was the same one from three months ago.
Recalling the scene of Liu Gulang's subordinates kneeling here, Jufeng couldn't help but sigh; time really flies!
Embracing each other in silence, as the stars shifted and the dawn approached.
When the light burst forth, the hurricane and Blue Cat transformed into two streaks of light, piercing through all obstacles and shooting straight into the sky.
Crimson Rank's speed was astonishingly fast, so fast that hundreds and thousands of Suihuan Army could not prepare in time.
Magellanic Star, Jufeng and Vera finally bid farewell here.
