The sudden arrival of Ganwen significantly lowered the defenses of Jufeng, who was engulfed in sorrow, leading him to believe without a doubt. However, Ganwen immediately asked Jufeng for help, not out of Jufeng's stinginess, but because it made him realize in that instant how he could easily trust this person before him.
Maintaining a calm exterior, the sadness within him faded slightly, leaving Ganwen unaware, while Jufeng's heart regained its composure.
"Please, if what you say is true, I will naturally do my utmost to assist you."
Jufeng concealed his feelings well; at least Ganwen showed no signs of emotional disturbance. He said, "It is like this: I hear that you are a General and that the Military has a wartime Demonstration coming up. If possible, I hope you can represent our side in battle. Although there will be no rewards, it would greatly benefit both your reputation and that of our party. The Demonstration is tomorrow, and the situation is urgent, so I had to come forward now. Our chances to meet are rare; I hope you can give me an answer right away."
Ganwen's expression was somewhat anxious, and his words were sincere and genuine, leaving Jufeng with no reason to doubt him.
Vera reached out from under the table and grasped Jufeng's hand—a reminder and a way for him to make his choice without hesitation.
Jufeng did not immediately agree but instead asked, "Since we first met, you have been calling me General. I wonder when I was promoted to General; before this, I was just a Major."
Ganwen suddenly slapped his forehead and said apologetically, "It's my fault for being anxious; I overlooked such an important matter. Before he passed away, my teacher promoted your rank to General. Although he faced oppression, he had spent his life in military service and still had some influence. This also makes it easier for you to take command of the army."
Jufeng nodded in understanding and pondered for a moment before agreeing.
"Alright, I'll go back and make arrangements right away. Just when and where should I receive the Dragon Breaker Army?"
Regardless of time or place, the military often holds significant authority; Jufeng's question was not out of place.
Seeing Jufeng agree, Ganwen's face lit up with joy. "The Dragon Breaker Army is currently resting at Magellan Star. After participating in the Demonstration, you can take command of the army."
With that, their conversation with a stranger came to an end. Ganwen took his leave with a bow while Jufeng stayed behind with Vera for a moment.
"Wind, do you think Ganwen is trustworthy?" Vera asked softly when she saw no one around.
Jufeng scanned the elegant room before looking at Vera with deep affection. "He should be trustworthy; the favored disciple of the Dragon Elder is not someone easily impersonated."
His gaze shifted to the appointment certificate for the army commander on the table as he continued, "Even if he had ulterior motives, he wouldn't be so generous towards us!"
Ganwen left the room but did not exit the building. Instead, he went upstairs where a friend awaited him in a quiet room; only the faint sounds of Jufeng and Vera's conversation could be heard.
After a while, their voices ceased as Jufeng and Vera departed. Ganwen and his friend then resumed their discussion.
"After a brief encounter, what do you think of Jufeng? Can he become our pawn?"
Ganwen's friend asked.
A hint of worry crossed Ganwen's otherwise pristine face, causing his friend to frown.
Ganwen replied, "I think my approach to interacting with him may be somewhat misguided. He is not a politician and does not appreciate beating around the bush. My actions might backfire; it would be more effective to be straightforward."
Reflecting on his performance today, Ganwen realized there were too many points open to interpretation, which did not reflect well on him in front of Jufeng.
After a moment, Ganwen sighed deeply and said, "Let's avoid referring to him as a pawn in the future, even in private. If we want Jufeng to be on our side, we must treat him as a friend."
Jufeng and Vera returned to their temporary residence on this planet. The rain had stopped, replaced by beautiful, gentle sunlight.
Upon seeing Jufeng return, Liu Gulang quickly handed over a thick stack of documents. The first page featured a photo of none other than the recently encountered Ganwen.
Liu Gulang was indeed a competent subordinate; having just met with Ganwen, he had gathered all relevant information about him at just the right time.
As Jufeng reviewed the documents, he listened to Liu Gulang's verbal report.
"Ganwen, known as the Jade-faced Scholar. He graduated from the Universal Military Academy, mentored by Dragon Elder, and is one of his prized students. Currently, he is a prominent figure in the New Wave Party, which has some distance from the old factions represented by the current United Nations Secretary-General, Liu Lei."
The struggle between factions ultimately revolved around the position of the United Nations Secretary-General. Shangguan Wangyu was simply more direct in his approach, opting to overthrow the entire United Nations rather than using party politics for conquest.
Those involved in politics are never as simple as they appear on the surface. As Jufeng read through the materials collected by Liu Gulang, he found nothing amiss but decided to keep his guard up against Ganwen for now.
He then took out the insignia and handed it to everyone while recounting his encounter with Ganwen.
Once he finished, Chen Tan Hua was the first to respond. "I didn't expect you to have reached the rank of General. From Major to General, you're rising like Halley's Comet!"
Jufeng shot Chen Tan Hua an exaggerated eye roll. It seemed he had forgotten about the incident with Wu Yi, reverting back to his usual self.
Meanwhile, Lu Hongyu, who had been watching since he first saw Jufeng's insignia, was practically glowing with excitement.
"Brother Jufeng, you are truly enviable! The Dragon Breaker Army is renowned throughout the entire Cosmos. There isn't a soldier who doesn't know its name. Among the five branches of the Dragon Head Army, it is one of the oldest. Its combat capabilities are unquestionable; there is no strongest army, only stronger ones. It was from here that Dragon Elder advanced to the Mid-Level Red Rank, eventually rising to the rank of Commander. For you to become the Commander of the Dragon Breaker Army, I can't help but feel envious."
While Lu Hongyu's envy might not be entirely genuine, his admiration for the Dragon Breaker Army was sincere. This reassured Jufeng somewhat; otherwise, there would have been no need for such significant sacrifices made by Dragon Elder to preserve this army.
However, Civilization calmly analyzed the situation beside him.
"Brother Jufeng, although you are currently the Commander of this army in name, fully taking control of it will be fraught with difficulties. A renowned army has individuals with their own pride. Even with the Dragon Elder's personal recommendation, winning their hearts will require some effort."
Tian Feng, having learned a lot about political analysis during Universal Hunting, added, "It is likely that Liu Lei's side anticipated that Brother Jufeng would not be able to integrate the army in a short time, which is why they agreed to the Dragon Elder's request in exchange for the Dragon Elder's opinion. I fear they may present even greater resistance to Brother Jufeng."
What Tian Feng pointed out was something Jufeng had considered from the beginning. Regardless of the difficulties ahead, even if faced with mountains of blades and seas of fire, he would choose to persevere without hesitation.
In the stillness of the night, Jufeng sat in the spacecraft heading to Magellan Star, gazing at the endless starry sky, murmuring softly.
"Dragon Elder, rest assured. No matter what happens, I will uphold the vow made before you. You are far away; just wait and see."
