Appearance... mediocre! This was Jufeng's first impression of the newcomer.
His features were far from exquisite, and his hairstyle was the most ordinary military buzz cut. Even the eyes, which usually sparkled with vitality in soldiers, appeared dull on his face.
Like a still pond, neither lively nor lifeless.
"Red Tier Mid-Level Mecha Operator, Dragon Breaker Army Commander Jufeng! Please repeat what you just said."
His tone was bright when introducing his name, but it inevitably turned somber when he spoke the latter part. It was not just a simple change in tone.
Jufeng knew who he was, yet he did not feel the awe or fear that most people would have in such a situation.
He was as proud as described in the materials Liu Gulang had prepared for him this morning.
Watching Qi Fa's retreating figure, Jufeng couldn't help but sigh inwardly about how he kept encountering such individuals today.
"Knowing my name, shouldn't you be worried about today's demonstration? I've been at Mid-Level Red Rank for over twenty years. Even if you are of the same tier, what do you have to be arrogant about in front of me?"
Straightforward and defiant—that was how the world viewed him, a middle-aged man who stood at the pinnacle of Cosmos, aging yet ageless.
However, Jufeng felt that he was being somewhat childish.
"Since we are in the same tier, what is there to worry about? If anything, I should be worried for you. After over twenty years, still stuck at mid-tier—don't you know the saying 'no progress means regression'?"
The other party was tough; Jufeng was even more unyielding. However, since he had used the word "you," it clearly indicated that Jufeng held some respect for him.
"Very well, after all these years, you are the first junior to dare provoke me."
At fifty-six, it was not unreasonable for him to consider himself a senior.
“Red Tier Mid-Level Mecha Operator, Xiao Hu Army Commander, Chen Ziping. I hope your performance today will live up to my introduction.”
With that, Chen Ziping turned and walked into another preparation room, leaving only the silhouette of his back to Jufeng.
Chen Ziping, once one of the top five, was a middle-aged man born into a Military family. He grew up in the Military and was promoted to Mid-Level Red Rank at thirty-five. Throughout his life, he had achieved countless military honors, earning the title of a perennial victor.
If he wanted, he could have been a commander by now, but he did not desire that, as the army he had followed all his life was the Xiao Hu Army, one of the five Dragon Head Armies.
The reason everyone feared him was that he had almost merged with the Xiao Hu Army. The Military had undergone numerous reforms, yet the Xiao Hu Army had never been integrated; it remained a multi-service force throughout its existence. Moreover, it had always been victorious.
During the siege of Huankezhao against the United Nations, it was the Xiao Hu Army that consistently protected the integrity of the United Nations.
Some referred to Cao Ke as the second Chen Ziping, which was both a compliment to Cao Ke and an acknowledgment of Chen Ziping's prowess.
Unfortunately, fate had turned them into rivals.
Once Chen Ziping had walked far enough away, Ganwen approached Jufeng, expressing admiration: “He truly is a junior valued by our teacher; seeing him still leaves me unfazed. After all these years, I still can’t overcome this barrier.”
Jufeng watched as Chen Ziping departed, his heart unconsciously racing and sweat forming in his palms.
He shook his head and remarked, “No wonder they call him the War God. Even standing before you, just looking at him feels like facing an army of thousands. In truth, I’ve been terrified all along; I’ve just been holding it together.”
He showed his sweaty palms to Ganwen, who couldn’t help but laugh.
Yet beneath the laughter, there remained a hint of concern.
"The upcoming battle..."
The key to a match lies in the momentum; if one's spirit falters before the fight even begins, their performance will undoubtedly suffer.
Jufeng shook his head again, signaling Ganwen not to worry. He explained, "You might not understand, but for people like us, the stronger the opponent, the more motivated we become. Just as I will do everything I can to defeat him using Hear the Command, I will also find a way to beat Chen Ziping with my mech."
Ganwen nodded and reassured Jufeng, "You don't need to be overly concerned. Chen Ziping is the most straightforward soldier, without any political stance; he only protects the government. Fortunately, he is not on the opposing side, so you can fight with all your might."
Jufeng nodded, preparing for the upcoming battle and falling silent.
On the screen, Qi Fa was engaged in a fierce match against another Tenth Rank expert from the First Army, with no clear victor in sight.
The higher the rank, the longer the battles between equals tend to last. As their understanding of mechs deepens, their attack and defense strategies become more diverse, leading to more time spent in combat.
Time flowed like sand through an hourglass, settling on the ground. The night grew darker, yet the arena became increasingly vibrant and bright, with spectators' emotions soaring higher.
With a blinding explosion in mid-air, Qi Fa's arm fell into empty space while his opponent's body crashed heavily to the ground.
From the effects observed, it seemed that Qi Fa had emerged victorious.
A wave of cheers and applause erupted as the citizens of Magellan Star were thrilled by their government's formidable strength, clapping until their hands stung.
As two Tenth Rank fighters exited the arena and passed through a performance by those of Crimson Rank lower tier, they directly entered Mid-Level Red Rank.
Thus, just as the applause was beginning to fade, it reignited fervently upon the appearance of two figures.
The excitement surpassed what had come before, like towering waves crashing and roaring.
The crowd erupted with excitement.
Most of the spectators recognized Chen Ziping's mech, known as the White Horse, gleaming in pure white.
Countless military enthusiasts stood up, waving the flags of Xiao Hu Army, twisting their bodies in support of their idol.
In an instant, the entire stadium transformed into a sea of tigers.
However, few noticed that amidst the thousands of tigers, a dragon was also soaring.
Chen Tan Hua watched Sisi fervently waving the Golden Dragon Flag and then glanced at himself surrounded by a throng of tigers, feeling somewhat displeased.
"What's so impressive about this White Horse? It’s like he’s a movie star or something. Wen Yun, did you have such a grand spectacle when you held your concert?"
Wen Yun didn’t particularly like Chen Tan Hua, so she completely ignored him.
Fortunately, Jiang Xue was nearby. Having shed her lab coat, she looked like a girl next door. While helping Sisi wave her flag, she responded to Wen Yun.
"Eldest Sister's concert draws crowds like no other! It's definitely more spectacular than this."
Chen Tan Hua concentrated on imagining what that scene would be like. After a moment, he found it hard to picture and decided to settle back in his seat, waiting for the demonstration to begin.
Tian Feng noticed Wen Yun sitting alone and felt a bit uncomfortable. He turned to Ming and struck up a conversation.
"Brother Ming, how do you think Brother Jufeng would define a Great Victory?"
Ming looked far away as two mechs faced off in the arena, the battle on the verge of breaking out. He pondered for a moment before responding.
"About ninety percent."
"Ninety percent?"
Tian Feng was taken aback upon hearing this. The other party was a well-known expert, and even if he was a newcomer like Jufeng, Romain shouldn't have such a high chance of winning.
Seeing Tian Feng's bewildered expression, Civilization smiled slightly, not in a hurry to explain, simply saying, "Just watch closely; you might miss the exciting scene."
Suddenly, on the virtual screen, two mechas began their duel, charging at each other like whirlwinds.
