Time is like a sculptor's knife, capable of carving people into the elderly or shaping them into exquisite forms. It can refine a person's character to perfection in one direction, or it can leave them stagnant, stuck in place.
This knife of time is the most impartial yet the most ruthless. If every minute and second is a cut, how much helplessness has it etched upon us?
Time has swiftly passed, and two years have already gone by.
After laying down their respective wave networks, the steps of both sides in the conflict temporarily halted, making it increasingly difficult to conquer one another.
All of this success is naturally attributed to Jiang Xue.
Jiang Xue has truly become a renowned figure across the Cosmos; there are few places where her name is not known. As the most outstanding mechanical researcher in centuries, Jiang Xue's name frequently appears in major scientific publications, marking a revolutionary advancement in mecha technology.
With the joint efforts of Jinhai Industries and Interstellar Express in Outer Space, along with significant support from certain government sectors, the Magellan Star System has finally broken free from Huankezhao's technological barriers and achieved complete autonomy in mecha production. Jiang Xue's status has risen accordingly; she is now an important member of the United Nations.
Jufeng looked at the first batch of mechas developed by Jiang Xue being sent to the front lines with great satisfaction, feeling deeply proud of his Sister Xue.
"Continue advancing the troops; land on target planet D19. Qi Fa, your Special Operations Team will lead the way while maintaining perimeter security."
Receiving the order, Qi Fa led his Special Forces mechas as they descended from the transport ship, rapidly dropping towards a specific area on a distant planet.
It was reminiscent of airborne troops from centuries ago; using mechas for long-distance travel would result in excessive energy consumption. Therefore, during marches, they were typically transported by transport ships and then deployed one by one at designated locations.
Following Qi Fa were Hua Cheng's Independent Regiment, along with several other divisions under Qi Fa's command, totaling nearly twenty thousand personnel descending together.
After a two-year hiatus, this was the first mission for the Dragon Breaker Army since its reformation—an experiment to test the performance of mechas produced by their joint company amidst war. Both Qi Fa's Special Operations Team and Hua Cheng's Independent Regiment were equipped with the latest mechas. The remaining personnel served as their bodyguards for protection.
In the command room of the Battleship, Jufeng stood before a massive screen displaying real-time information from the front lines as seen by Qi Fa and his team.
At the bottom of the screen was a massive control panel. In front of the arched console sat seventeen operators, each with different functions. They were responsible for relaying Jufeng's commands to the troops on the front lines.
Behind Jufeng were the Senior Management of the Dragon Breaker Army. Jufeng was the overall commander for this operation, while Ouyang Chang served as his deputy. The Royal Guard, led by Sisi, consisted of elite members from the Dragon Breaker Army, always on standby as a contingency.
The images on the screen were constantly changing, quickly shifting from interstellar patterns to those depicting the interior of a planet. From a distance, it appeared desolate and barren, devoid of any signs of life.
The communications room could clearly transmit messages to the soldiers fighting inside the planet. As Jufeng observed the increasingly clear surface images, he issued his second command.
"Confirm enemy status again."
Ouyang Chang held an electronic device in his hand. After hearing Jufeng's order, his steady voice slowly resonated.
"The enemy belongs to the Suihuan Army's detached Fourth Division, consisting of the Seventh Division and two reinforced brigades. Their deployment is a four-in-one formation, equipped with standard Suihuan Army gear and ample ammunition."
This information encompassed all details regarding Qi Fa's mission. After deciding to use this army as a test subject, Jufeng had dispatched personnel for multiple reconnaissance missions to confirm their status repeatedly.
Reconfirming enemy strength before battle was a way to ensure that the soldiers were well-informed, even though they had been notified earlier. This was a routine military tradition.
As Ouyang Chang's voice faded, Qi Fa and his team were nearing the ground, where they could see rolling hills stretching out before them, stark and desolate.
Suddenly, the images began to shake violently due to the impact of mechs landing. Jufeng issued another command, and the view switched to Hua Cheng and his group. Following Qi Fa, they could see mechs landing safely one after another.
About two minutes later, Qi Fa's voice rang out again.
"All units have landed; requesting network signal disruption."
"Permission granted."
The so-called network signal disruption was a consequence of Jiang Xue's earlier actions. If the branch network laid out by the Large Magellanic Cloud was not temporarily blocked, the Dragon Breaker Army would likely have been disarmed and defeated without a fight.
As Jufeng's voice fell, several of the seventeen operators began to operate swiftly, and within ten seconds, they were ready.
"Disruption prepared, launch."
Three Shells were fired from different positions of the Battleship, and the screen shifted to show the scene in Outer Space. They reached three points in orbit outside the planet and then quietly began to orbit like satellites.
After some time, the last batch of Dragon Breaker Army assault teams had also reached the surface. Thus, the disruption officially began.
A beam shot from the Battleship to one of the Shells, and then that beam began to refract and transfer. Soon, three beams connected between the three Shells. Then, a faintly visible wave of light began to diffuse within the triangle before ultimately disappearing as if nothing had happened.
"Report number one: Network signal disruption completed, operation normal, estimated time sixty hours."
The Shells required energy; the energy stored inside them was uniform but varied due to the differing gravitational forces of the planet.
With this task completed, communication between this planet and the Large Magellanic Cloud's main network was severed. However, the downside of this disruption was that the main network could easily detect it.
According to Jufeng's prior investigation and calculations, it would take eighteen hours for reinforcements to discover and arrive here. This meant that Qi Fa and his group had to complete their experiment and return within those eighteen hours.
Jufeng had already estimated that eighteen hours would be sufficient.
After the network signal was blocked, it was akin to stirring up grass and startling snakes; this was unavoidable. Therefore, what followed would be a direct confrontation.
"According to the established plan, we will divide into two battalions, engage in guerrilla tactics, and maintain constant communication."
As Jufeng finished speaking, the teams on the screen began to disperse, moving along different ravines and hills, gradually departing. At this moment, it was clear that Goofy’s actions were extremely unwise, so they flew low and quietly.
It was easy to imagine that the enemy had already begun their deployment and reconnaissance. Jufeng's next command would be based on the enemy's movements.
Under normal circumstances, no one would hunker down defensively and wait for disaster. However, an unusual commander could make unexpected moves.
This was Jufeng's debut as a commander, a test of the results of his two years of study. He went against the majority opinion and did not rely on overwhelming numerical superiority to easily resolve this trial. Instead, he chose to use the strength of five or six regiments to confront an enemy division supported by two reinforced brigades.
From a purely numerical standpoint, this was a challenging confrontation. Yet Jufeng remained calm and composed, indirectly instilling confidence in Ouyang Chang.
Vera stood quietly behind him, silently admiring the man she loved.
