A blue light gate connected two worlds, the One Step Hall, a step into hell. Every time Zheng Yifan passed through the Blue Light Gate to reach the apocalypse, he would feel a shiver run down his spine, an unsettling sensation creeping over him. 0

"Just two more boxes, finally done." Looking at his basement, filled with various supplies, only a narrow path remained alongside the one-square-meter area where the light gate stood. 0

He dared not store too many items in the warehouse; that would be a place he could use only when he had the strength to protect himself. For now, he had temporarily placed a ton of sugar and a ton of salt there simply because the basement was too cramped to accommodate more. 0

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he walked to his room and quietly waited on the sofa for dawn to arrive. 0

It seemed to be getting brighter; it was indeed the most beautiful time. Those struggling in the apocalypse, after enjoying the peace of night, would once again have to pay for their food today. 0

No one could escape this fate. Even Howling Wind, the leader of the Gathering Place, had to organize repeated counterattacks on villages and towns. Clearing more territory meant more land for cultivation. 0

"Sir, you really are quite late." Han Rui remained as gentle and graceful as ever, a thin veil covering her face and obscuring her features. 0

Inside the room, Su Qin was all smiles, playing with her Handheld Game Console. It was a product of post-apocalyptic civilization that had cost Zheng Yifan zero Zombie Crystal s. The price wasn't cheap, but it didn't matter much to him. 0

Low-pressure electricity was available for sale in the Gathering Place; all electricity was provided by Solar Energy, costing each household ten Zombie Crystal s per month. 0

Living in the Gathering Place meant needing money at all times; without income, one would struggle to get by. 0

"I can't help it; I just love sleeping in." Zheng Yifan stretched lazily and continued, "It's been over two weeks now; I believe you've become familiar with the entire Gathering Place. You can be my guide now, right?" 0

The scar removal products he had brought from the real world were showing initial effects. Although they only faded her scars slightly, it was still enough to vaguely reveal Han Rui's former beauty. Over time, those terrifying scars lost their intimidating power. For a moment, Zheng Yifan found himself staring blankly at Han Rui. 0

Clearly, Han Rui was in good spirits as well. 0

"Hey! Sir, you've been staring at me for a full forty-five seconds. Can I take that as a sign that you're in love with me?" After more than a week of getting to know each other, Han Rui understood that Zheng Yifan had an easygoing personality and felt comfortable enough to joke around. 0

"Really? That would be my honor. It seems my staring skills are starting to pay off. Next time I'll go to the inner city and stare at those rich men's concubines. Let's see if they will throw themselves into my arms," Zheng Yifan shrugged nonchalantly. 0

"I advise you not to do that, or you'll have a whole bunch of women following you," Han Rui seemed to imply something else. "After all, even in the Inner City, you can't enjoy this kind of quality life." 0

Inside the house, rows of canned goods filled the refrigerator, and there were even opened ice creams on a plastic rack. 0

Even more astonishing was that at least five days a week, they had meat to eat—be it chicken, duck, or fish. Such a luxurious diet in this Gathering Place was nothing short of a miracle. 0

It's important to note that the livestock in the Breeding Center of the Gathering Place were extremely valuable. They would only be slaughtered and sold at high prices to the wealthy in the Inner City once they grew old and could no longer breed or pull carts. 0

"Forget it. Only you orphans and widows would be willing to follow me; others probably wouldn't even look at someone as ordinary as me," Zheng Yifan said, waving at Su Qin inside the house. "Su Qin, I'm taking your mom away. I'll bring her back tonight." 0

Su Qin giggled and stretched out her hand. "Hurry up and take her away! I want my mom to find me a dad soon." 0

She then quickly ran over and shut the door with all her might. 0

"Well, it seems we've become unpopular," Zheng Yifan said with a wry smile. 0

However, Han Rui's face was already flushed with excitement. 0

"We should go to the recruitment hall; there are mercenaries waiting to be hired there. If you want to recruit permanent members, you can find them there too," Han Rui said, her expression shifting from joy to worry, her eyes glimmering with unshed tears. 0

"What's wrong?" Zheng Yifan noticed that Han Rui seemed to have something on her mind. 0

Han Rui timidly replied, "The captain of the security team at my former company was tricked into going to the Gladiatorial Arena to redeem me. He's still trapped there now. Along with him are more than ten other security personnel from our company who were also deceived." 0

Her voice was low; she knew that redeeming that loyal iron man would require spending a significant amount of Zombie Crystal s. 0

"The Gladiatorial Arena? Is that the one where they fight Zombies? The Cage where those wealthy fools put on their ridiculous shows?" Zheng Yifan glanced at Han Rui. 0

He also knew how much it would cost to redeem a warrior from the Gladiatorial Arena. The warriors there were nothing more than cash machines for the Slave Traders. 0

“How skilled was your former security captain?” Such a fortune was still rare at present, and he needed to know if spending this money would be worth it. 0

Han Rui replied with certainty, “My security captain was hired at a high salary and received the most professional training. He served as a captain in the Ace Special Forces domestically but was forced to retire due to internal power struggles. The security team we formed afterward has always been among the best in the country. I assure you, he will be very useful to you and has considerable experience fighting Zombies.” 0

In an effort to further convince Zheng Yifan, Han Rui added, “I fought my way out from downtown with his organized security team protecting us. We had over two hundred people, and they managed to protect us with just over twenty of them. In the end, we only lost a few, and those were non-combat losses. Everyone in the security team is a veteran from their special forces. If you rescue him, I guarantee the entire team will be loyal to you.” 0

Han Rui's words deeply moved Zheng Yifan. 0

As he was now trying to build his foundation, his greatest fear was disloyalty among his subordinates. He was hesitant to distribute weapons to those he had just met. 0

However, he could trust the security captain recommended by Han Rui to a certain extent, which was enough for him to distribute those rifles. 0

“I'll trust you this once. Let’s go to the Gladiatorial Arena; I’m eager to see this person you speak so highly of,” Zheng Yifan nodded. 0

Hearing Zheng Yifan's words, Han Rui burst into tears, hugging Zheng Yifan's shoulders and giving him a passionate kiss on the lips before seemingly remembering something and shyly turning away. 0

Zheng Yifan stared blankly ahead, covering his mouth as he murmured, “Is my first kiss really gone just like that?” 0
