The setting sun cast its glow over the vast land, accompanied by the sounds of chirping insects and singing birds, creating one of the most beautiful scenes in the world. Yet, more prevalent was the desperate howl echoing through the jungle. Shadows flickered as a few Zombies staggered out from the underbrush, following the croaks of frogs, stumbling forward while ravenously stuffing their mouths with bloody flesh. 0

If only there were one or two humans around, it would make for a perfect midnight snack. 0

Tonight, a feast awaited. On the highway ahead, hundreds of humans walked slowly. They carried very little food, dragging their feet along the road, their gaunt faces revealing a long history of malnutrition. 0

“Roar!” Occasionally, a couple of Zombies crawled out from the thicket, only to be quickly dispatched by people wielding wooden sticks, who then extracted Zombie Crystal s and searched their bodies clean. 0

They had adapted well to this life; as long as someone led the way, there would always be those willing to storm the city. 0

Now they resembled lost lambs, blindly following their leader. 0

Ahead, Zheng Yifan repeatedly studied the map in his hands. It was one carried by those from the Gathering Place and had been traded to him for a can of beef stew. 0

“We're still about two kilometers from Ruiguan. Can you all hold on?” Zheng Yifan asked. 0

The Butchers around him had already removed their firefighting gear and were distributing supplies according to Zheng Yifan's orders to those following behind them. 0

Once they reached their destination, these items would be exchanged for urgently needed food. 0

“No problem. It's just that the refugees trailing behind are so annoying; they slow us down,” Left Guard said, wiping sweat from his forehead as he glanced back at the group with some confusion. 0

These people were utterly useless; having them follow along provided no value. Once they entered Ruiguan—the buffer zone between ancient dangers and the implementation site of the massive Resort plan in this Post-Apocalypse era—it would become their largest base. As long as they cleared out all Zombies in advance, they would have a solid rear guard and could gradually absorb more refugees into their ranks. This place could eventually become one of the largest Gathering Places south of the river, possibly even the biggest. 0

“We need people to solidify our foundation. Most of those willing to follow us have little to no assets at Howling Wind Gathering Place; they are merely oppressed individuals. If we provide them some assistance, they will unleash their greatest enthusiasm,” Zheng Yifan said thoughtfully. “What we need now is rapid development—fastest possible development. You don’t need to worry about supplies; I can still support a thousand or eighteen hundred people. As long as we perfect our agricultural and industrial chains and establish a management framework for the New Gathering Place before our numbers reach tens of thousands, we’ll be fine.” 0

Zheng Yifan's words were firm and reassured the Butchers. 0

The families of the Butchers following behind felt even happier. They had little support; it was only because one member of their family was a Butcher that they managed to survive. Now that their pillar had found a more reliable backing, smiles adorned their faces. 0

Among them was a girl around fifteen or sixteen years old who smiled brightest of all, her eyes sparkling with heart-shaped glimmers as she looked at Blue Lightning. 0

"We can already see the city walls. Our supply of Fresh Water is running low, and we don't know if the city gates are open. If they're closed, how can we get in?" The simple-minded Devil's Advocate behind him flashed his signature smile. 0

However, his words struck a chord. The ten-meter-high city walls were insurmountable for them, and if the gates were shut, there would be no way to enter alive. 0

"Let me handle this mission," said Zheng Yifan, gripping his dagger as he gazed at the walls, his heart racing. Back in school, when others easily climbed over the two-meter-high courtyard wall, he often struggled. Climbing these ten-meter walls seemed impossible. 0

From where he stood, he could see figures aimlessly moving atop the walls and hear the distant roars of Zombies echoing from within Ruiguan. 0

Hearing the Zombie sounds calmed Zheng Yifan's nerves. He feared that other factions might have taken control inside, but the presence of Zombies indicated that it had not yet been pacified by anyone else. 0

"I'll check if the gates are open first; you all take your time," Zheng Yifan instructed before sprinting ahead at a steady pace. 0

With each stride, he left deep impressions in the ground beneath him. He had always felt a sense of oppression—pressure from life and the burden of keeping secrets—even his dreams weighed heavily on him, fearing he might accidentally spill something in his sleep. 0

Now, running seemed to release that pent-up tension through sweat. In that moment, he felt like he could outrun even Usain Bolt; on a racetrack, he would leave everyone far behind as his speed continued to increase. 0

Meters per second. 0

Four meters per second. 0

Five meters per second... 0

Seventy-seven meters per second. 0

His speed escalated as if he were a ghost racing down the highway. Even if he encountered Zombies on the road, as long as they weren't Second-Level Zombies, he ignored them completely, leaving only shadows in his wake. 0

Even when faced with a few Second-Level Zombies within sight, he would effortlessly swing his Adamantium Shield to take their lives without pausing to collect any Zombie Crystal s. 0

The city walls loomed closer as the highway curved away from Ruiguan and veered off in another direction. 0

Yet Zheng Yifan charged straight toward the walls, leaping over barriers and sprinting across the grass. Ahead of him, the ground gradually turned into hard-packed earth, and what was even more terrifying was that drought had begun to etch its mark with scattered patches across the terrain. 0

The cracked earth bore no signs of life. Ahead, Ruiguan had indeed closed its gates, just as Zheng Yifan had anticipated. The zombies on the city wall were not the first batch of mutated ones; they were later infections. 0

The pockmarked and weathered surface of the wall showed evidence of Second-Level Zombie attacks. Their claws were much sharper than those of First-Level Zombies, making it entirely possible for them to scale the walls. 0

Fortunately, there were no signs of Third-Stage Zombies having breached the defenses. 0

In the distance, faintly visible, were remnants of the damaged walls that had been partially repaired. There was a stretch of over thirty meters that seemed to have been left unfinished before disaster struck. 0

Zheng Yifan could only speculate about what had happened. For now, he needed to enter and open the gates, then gather everyone to clear out the zombies in the area. 0

He also required a place to recuperate and transport supplies here. 0

With that thought in mind, Zheng Yifan took two steps at once and leaped beneath the city wall. He plunged his left-hand dagger into a pit left by a zombie attack and used it to propel himself upward. 0

The abilities granted by the Super Soldier Serum allowed him to swiftly enter Ruiguan. The few zombies remaining could not withstand the sharpness of his Adamantium Shield, turning instantly into fertilizer for the ground. 0

With a clattering sound, Ruiguan slowly opened its gates. 0
