The body of the Third-Stage Zombie was tougher than steel, yet when Zheng Yifan pounced onto it, he felt only soft skin, devoid of any hardness. A thick, foul-smelling liquid oozed from its body, slowly trickling down.
“Ugh!” The stench shattered his focus, a repulsive odor that turned his stomach.
“Roar!” The Zombies began to shake and slowly rise. The Second-Level Zombies were tangled together, with Zheng Yifan's Cold Iron Nine Dragon Spear caught in the midst, ensnaring all the Zombies and their Scorpion Tails.
“Filthy bugs, I'm not done yet.” A blue light flickered on Zheng Yifan's left arm as a familiar shield reappeared.
The Eidman Alloy Shield spun in mid-air, its power magnified, rotating faster than before. The violent spin sliced through the air, creating a sharp current that cut through the sky, reaching speeds that nearly approached the limits of Vital Energy.
A thread of Vital Energy suddenly emerged, transforming into electric sparks that danced around the blade of the shield.
In an instant, the speed surged into a realm previously sealed off. The airflow generated by the shield became a razor-sharp edge, tracing an arc before returning to Zheng Yifan's left arm.
Steady and secure. Dozens of heads flew through the air, green blood spraying like a fountain from their severed necks.
Greater power and faster speed. Zheng Yifan was stunned; he had never experienced such efficient attacks or such formidable strength before. Everything stemmed from those threads of Vital Energy, which brought forth a breakthrough in power.
“Kill!” The cries for blood outside the Stone House grew louder; they were ready to fight these Zombies to the bitter end.
Of course, it was difficult for them as well. With Plate Armor protecting them, only specific areas of the Second-Level Zombies' Scorpion Tails could inflict damage. The only real threat they faced was from the Third-Stage Zombie.
But with the Third-Stage Zombie right beside Zheng Yifan, they could only ensure that the Second-Level Zombies could no longer entangle him.
As a result, the Second-Level Zombies were swiftly eradicated in a matter of moments.
The Third-Stage Zombie continued to roar, its hands reaching forward with ferocity.
Zheng Yifan leaned back to evade the Zombie's hands, the tail hammer hanging in mid-air followed suit. This time, he did not gather strength as he usually did; the descent was not fast.
He sidestepped and dodged smoothly, then Zheng Yifan grabbed the released spear and moved at least three or four meters away.
Facing the Third-Stage Zombie head-on was still a daunting task. At this moment, the damned Second-Level Zombies had been cleared away, and the Left Guard had regained consciousness. He had been awakened by a teammate pouring a bottle of mineral water over him and was now regrouping the team for a retreat. The battle against the Third-Stage Zombie was something they could not interfere with; Zheng Yifan had to face it alone.
There were still many things they needed to do, like dealing with that group of ruthless Rulers who treated the people in their Gathering Place as if they were nothing.
Right now, the front line needed their support.
"You all go ahead; I'll handle this Zombie," Zheng Yifan said, raising his spear directly at the approaching Zombie.
The Third-Stage Zombie charged forward without fear or hesitation, its hands lunging like a cheetah. The tail hammer followed closely behind; given half a chance, it would smash down on Zheng Yifan.
"Damn it!" He stomped his right foot and rolled to the left.
In that instant, the Zombie's tail hammer came crashing down from above, leaving a deep trench where Zheng Yifan had just stood. The ground bore visible grooves from the impact.
Taking advantage of this moment, Zheng Yifan had time to carefully observe the Stone House before him.
To his surprise, the entrance of the Stone House was not large at all, yet inside it was vast. The exterior resembled a Stone House built against the mountainside, but behind it lay a hidden factory at the foot of the hill. What this factory used to do was no longer traceable, but it certainly involved some unsavory activities.
However, being here now filled him with genuine fear—an overwhelming dread that even his usual methods of releasing pressure could not alleviate.
The entire factory consisted of two long tables. Opposite the entrance were dozens of massive iron cages, and outside were two water reservoirs filled with clear water.
In front of those cages stood a tasting table with two tracks laid out on top, where carts over two meters long rested on the rails.
The wooden board in the vehicle resembled a cross, stained with dried blood in a mottled pattern.
Behind it were one operation station after another, but the people who should have been standing behind those stations had all vanished.
In the distance, there were chunks of meat arranged in categories.
Yes, just chunks of meat, bright red and glistening with blood, devoid of any skin.
But Zheng Yifan knew that it was human flesh, for behind him lay a pile of severed heads and limbs stacked in bamboo baskets.
When the Zombie entered the room, it seemed restless, repeatedly wanting to turn back toward the blood and flesh. However, Zheng Yifan's ability to attract was far beyond what those already dead Human Corpses could compare to.
In the end, it remained focused on Zheng Yifan.
"Sir, please kill me. I don't want to be eaten by a Zombie." In a cage, there were still four or five women.
Naked women, completely exposed, their beautiful figures igniting a rush of blood in anyone who looked at them.
They had been cleaned thoroughly; aside from lacking any makeup, they remained charming and alluring.
In peacetime, they would have been proud beauties, capable of driving Otaku wild and making wealthy men compete to keep them as companions. All Chads would have referred to them as goddesses.
But now, they were merely pets that had grown tiresome to their owners, about to face slaughter and become a delicacy on someone else's dining table.
"Sir, please, kill us." From the crowd emerged a girl no older than thirteen or fourteen, her face streaked with tears as she pleaded with Zheng Yifan.
As these women slowly regained their senses and sought Zheng Yifan's help to end their fragile lives, the Zombie had already moved closer.
"Roar!" With a howl, the creature lunged forward, its claws swiping through the air as it continued to pounce at Zheng Yifan.
"Thrust!" The spear pierced forward, executing the most basic of maneuvers, yet it was executed with pinpoint precision, perfectly blocking the trajectory of the Zombie's claw.
Then, with a surge of momentum, Zheng Yifan aimed to strike at its neck.
However, the Zombie's tail swung in response. Its instincts kicked in, compelling it to protect its vulnerable neck and head. It relentlessly swiped at Zheng Yifan, gradually forcing him into a corner.
As long as the Zombie could safeguard its neck and head—its two most fragile spots—nothing else mattered. Even if its legs were severed, it still possessed its tail. Moreover, the tough carapace covering its limbs provided formidable protection.
"Sir, please just kill us. There's no chance left. Really, there's no chance," a girl pleaded from her knees, tears streaming down her face.
They lacked the courage to take their own lives; suicide required immense bravery—something they simply could not muster when faced with death.
"No! You will live! You will live well!" Zheng Yifan fixed a determined gaze on the girl before turning to face the grotesque Zombie before him, his spear resting against the ground.
His eyes held an unprecedented resolve.
