A night passed without incident, merely a brief gathering with the warriors, followed by a tour of the already decorated second and third floors. They were no different from the first floor, except that they were not yet open for business.
During this time, Zheng Yifan made his way to the underground parking lot that had been converted into a warehouse. He greeted the warriors outside and granted them a break, completing the stocking of the warehouse. However, after filling the entire warehouse, the supplies Zheng Yifan had brought from the real world were dwindling. These were nearly all the goods ordered by Tang Hao and his team during this period.
As such, the order volume continued to increase, with over a dozen factories working overtime. As long as they didn’t exhaust their employees, they would be grateful.
Taking advantage of the early dawn, Zheng Yifan set off on his journey, riding a mountain bike out of the Gathering Place.
This bike was a valuable asset in this post-apocalyptic world, made of super alloy and featuring new rims that surpassed carbon fiber, allowing for impressive speed.
Of course, this was also thanks to Zheng Yifan's extraordinary strength. After evolving to the Fourth Stage, his power had gradually increased to an impressive level; he had to be careful not to damage the bike while pedaling.
Fortunately, he had consistently practiced his Shooting Skill. His steps were steady, and he could control the strength in his legs effortlessly, avoiding any embarrassing mishaps of breaking the bike.
On the road, Zheng Yifan felt an uncomfortable sensation, as if something was crawling inside him, causing spasms. He knew this was a natural response from his body—he was being watched.
Glancing at his watch, he decided to press on. More than half an hour had passed; this stretch of road closest to the Gathering Place was still relatively smooth. Occasionally, he could see makeshift vehicles crawling along the road.
Going back? Was that seeking death? The Gathering Place was crowded; who knew where those watching him might strike?
As for what lay ahead—the desolate wilderness and biting cold winds—there were no ambush spots in sight.
He could only keep moving forward, convinced that they wanted to probe into his background. Only by doing so could he find a way to circle back to Hope Gathering Place from another direction.
He felt confident about this; he could hide in a relatively safe place where he wouldn’t be exposed before returning to the real world for a while and then coming back. As long as he didn’t reveal himself in front of others, he had countless ways to manage it.
With that thought in mind, Zheng Yifan maintained his previous speed and continued onward. The road was clear of zombies; only makeshift vehicles occasionally stopped along the way. People wrapped up like balls would emerge from these vehicles to gather some wild grass from the prairie before returning inside and moving on.
Zheng Yifan found it amusing and felt a sense of relief. Yes! This is humanity. No matter the circumstances, they would find a way to survive. His support was merely an attempt to help when needed; if he didn’t intervene, humanity would still endure—though it would be much harder.
Continuing onward, most of his journey was on highways; even when taking detours, it was better than riding through the wilderness.
He even felt a tinge of disappointment—if only he had prepared a racing bike for himself. That experience would surely have been different.
Within a hundred meters behind him, several figures were rapidly closing in on Zheng Yifan. Among them stood a notably short young man draped in a long robe who seemed impervious to the cold. He ran effortlessly like it was just another day, trailing behind Zheng Yifan like a ghostly shadow—unshakeable and unseen.
He did not disappoint his appearance, staring intently at Zheng Yifan like a grim reaper.
“Vice Captain! What should we do? Where can we take that guy down?” Beside the young man stood another lean youth, whose attire was much more normal, wearing at least a thick cotton coat. The label surprisingly indicated it was from Hope Mall.
If Zheng Yifan saw this, he might feel frustrated by his own actions that aided the enemy.
“Wait a bit longer. In about ten miles, there’s a low bridge ahead. Below it is frozen ice, where my strength can be maximized.” The Vice Captain in the center issued orders.
The people around passed the message to one another, and within seconds, everyone was aware of the battle plan.
Their identities gradually revealed themselves; they were members of the Ice King Mercenary Corps. Given the habits of the Ice King Mercenary Corps, how could they let anyone who provoked them go unpunished? Zheng Yifan had merely provoked them at a crucial moment. Initially, when they were executing their grand plan, they had no time to deal with someone like Zheng Yifan. Now that they had some time, they naturally set their sights on this wealthy individual. If they eliminated him, Hope Supermarket would be theirs.
Unfortunately for them, this fellow was elusive and had vanished for over a week. Thankfully, last night a member of the Ice King Mercenary Corps spotted him while shopping at Hope Mall, leading to today’s assassination plan.
As for tracking him? They didn’t care at all. The entire Han Sui City Gathering Place would soon be their territory, and in nearby Kaiyi City lay endless wealth. How could a mere mall compare to the riches of an entire city?
If they truly lost out on this opportunity, it would be a failure for the entire Ice King Mercenary Corps.
Ahead, Zheng Yifan continued to move quickly. He could already sense the killing intent; goosebumps rose all over his body. Most of those behind him lacked the power to pose a real threat, but the one directly pursuing him was undeniably strong.
He was not an arrogant person and did not think himself invincible just because he possessed the Time-Space Barrier. There were plenty of powerful individuals beneath him; in Han Sui City Gathering Place alone, there were three top-tier experts. Who knew if there were even stronger hidden figures?
Like the fellow right behind him.
Gradually, Zheng Yifan reached the edge of Crossing River. This river wound through the entire prairie like a motherly vein, nourishing countless lives. Now, its surface was frozen solid, but with his keen hearing and senses, he could detect flowing water just beneath the Frozen Surface. Fish and shrimp lay dormant at the bottom, waiting for Spring's arrival while occasionally catching some prey.
At the bridgehead, Zheng Yifan glanced at both sides; it was a flat expanse of ice with only this bridge connecting two lands amidst the prairie. Under the morning sun, the long shadow of the bridge cast across the icy surface made areas beneath it particularly cool without sunlight.
However, that feeling quickly faded as he realized those behind him could no longer be considered stealthy!
Who had ever seen someone brazenly following right behind you to prepare for an ambush? They were openly coming to intercept him now.
“Those behind me! You’d better not make any sudden moves; otherwise I’ll take it as a provocation against me. Don’t blame me for being merciless then.” Zheng Yifan placed his right hand behind him on a wooden stick resting on his shoulder; of course, he could instantly transform it into a spear using Storage Space.
“Zheng Yifan! Since you dared to provoke our Ice King Mercenary Corps, you must be prepared for our retaliation. Stop with your nonsense and show us what you’ve got; we guarantee we won’t kill you in one blow.” After the Vice Captain finished speaking, laughter erupted from beside him as seven enemies approached from all directions while others remained far off, observing through binoculars.
The seven individuals were all Superpowered Individuals. Zheng Yifan couldn't pinpoint their specific Superpowers, but he could sense that they were just like Li Ning when he had first activated his Superpower—unfamiliar with its use and lacking their own combat techniques, their Vital Energy naturally emanating from within.
The only cause for concern was the one referred to as the Vice Captain.
In the Ice King Mercenary Corps, there was only one Vice Captain, known as the Night Demon. He was the shadow of the Ice King and the undisputed Vice Captain of the Ice King Mercenary Corps. No one knew what his Superpower was; they only knew that he seemed to be everywhere, his attacks bizarre and unpredictable.
Zheng Yifan watched the Night Demon with a tense demeanor, his palms almost sweating. He had never heard of anyone escaping the Night Demon’s grasp; in close combat, he had virtually no rivals.
Now, facing him, Zheng Yifan realized just how formidable he was. His body instinctively began to retreat onto the bridge, even abandoning his bicycle.
The pressure before him was immense. The Night Demon was truly a devil; with every step he took, the ground trembled beneath him, and dark shadows coiled around him. The people beside him were even more frenzied. After the Night Demon issued his orders, everyone rushed forward, suddenly revealing wide cloaks that trailed behind them, their speed causing shadows to stretch across the ground like dark lines.
None of this felt normal—absolutely abnormal! Zheng Yifan had never seen such strange shadows before. Almost in an instant, he recalled the Old Ghost he had encountered at the Gathering Place. The Old Ghost's shadows were equally eerie; he could hide in shadows to ambush enemies and even create shadow clones that bore an uncanny resemblance to himself—completely devoid of offensive power but capable of swapping places with him at critical moments.
Now, the situation before him was strikingly similar. The Night Demon was undoubtedly a master of shadows. Fortunately for them, they had chosen to attack during daylight; however, what Zheng Yifan didn’t know was that while shadows were more abundant at night, their power was not as strong due to moonlight. The intense light cast stronger shadows than those generated naturally at night, which were inherently weaker.
Zheng Yifan wasn't entirely clear on the reasons behind this. But now he understood that danger had arrived! The seven individuals before him all possessed binding abilities as Superpowered Individuals.
In an instant, he found himself in peril. (To be continued)
