"Kill!" With all resistance abandoned, the Adamantium Shield paid no mind, only fighting desperately, holding guns in both hands, with not a single thought in his heart. The Silver Spear shone with dazzling light.
Like the Shooting Skill of In Calamity, it was slow, slowed to the limit, as if the entire world had come to a halt, leaving only this shot in existence. He positioned himself and slowly thrust the spear forward.
His body aligned with the spear's form, channeling all his strength into one point. In his mind, he envisioned Wu Yingzhou's full-force strike. The Shooting Skill merged with it, unleashing that feeling of giving everything. In an instant, the speed of the surrounding Zombies seemed to slow down; the Tentacles gradually retracted, all the suckers tightly closing, and then the fibers almost completely shrank.
It felt as if all his power had been accumulated in one moment before erupting completely.
At that instant, Zheng Yifan struck. His move was like lightning; in a flash, it was done. The spear seemed to pierce through space and time, penetrating everything, and then it shot forth with destructive power, carrying all of Zheng Yifan's strength.
There were no flames or Vital Energy; it was as if everything had been instantly drained away.
Zheng Yifan collapsed to the ground, his muscles aching unbearably. Even more terrifying was the steam rising from his body; almost all of his fat had burned away, and a significant amount of moisture evaporated instantly, leaving him looking skeletal.
"Time-Space Barrier!" With his last ounce of strength, Zheng Yifan shouted those final words. Then darkness enveloped him; he could see almost nothing, and a wave of sourness flooded his mind.
Before him, a distorted light gate appeared. Using every last bit of energy he had left, Zheng Yifan pushed off against the wall and dashed inside. He could no longer care about disfigurement or anything else.
The Silver Spear—well, Zheng Yifan couldn't worry about that now. Because the Silver Spear was moving forward at an incredibly slow pace.
However, all the Zombies ahead seemed to be under some spell, unable to move at all. If one were to dissect the Apocalyptic World, they would discover tiny energy spots suddenly appearing around their bodies; these energy spots locked onto them. That was the power of Vital Energy.
Then the Silver Spear advanced slowly with destructive force, like an old man strolling leisurely. Gradually, it flew forward toward the grotesque blood-red Zombie at the far end of the stone chamber that roared with its mouth wide open as if howling. But it could not move. The Silver Spear sliced through more than a dozen Zombies ahead before finally piercing through one of its thighs and nearly embedding itself into the ground, causing a burst of green Zombie fluid to spray out.
That was the root of the Mutated Plants in the center of the stone chamber being completely severed. Afterward, it was as if nothing had happened; when the Silver Spear passed through that grotesque Zombie, its power had already been fully released.
Time seemed to have stopped, until a long while later.
"Crash!" The spotted force suddenly shattered, and it felt as if a level one typhoon had descended. The entire cave was filled with terrifying power in an instant. Dozens of Second-Stage Mutated Zombies were torn to shreds, their flesh and blood raining down onto the ground.
"Roar!" The strange Zombie in the stone chamber let out a loud roar as its left leg was suddenly ripped apart, severed from its body and transformed into green liquid.
The Mutated Plants on the ground twitched as if they had gone mad, instantly absorbing the green liquid. In that moment, the main body of the plants appeared to become even more vibrant.
Only the Zombie's roar remained, its limited intelligence driving it to continuously scream and pound the ground, trying to force out the culprit. Unfortunately, the Silver Spear had completely sunk into the earth, slowly merging with the soil.
It was as if, in a television drama, Yue Yinping had not obtained the form of the Silver Spear, but there seemed to be something extra within that.
Perhaps this thing was called self-sacrifice, a desperate struggle for survival amidst mutual destruction.
At this moment, Zheng Yifan lay on the ground, completely indistinguishable from a mummy, twitching incessantly but unable to move.
He was now in a basement of a rented apartment in France, which he had specifically set up as a concealed safe house for traveling between two timelines. Unfortunately, he had just realized how troublesome concealment and safety could be because he could not move at all; he couldn't even speak, only able to make slight grinding motions with his jaws.
It seemed even his brain was insufficiently functional, leaving only a craving for food and an impulse to eat.
It felt as if the entire world had vanished; his sight, hearing, and touch were all stripped away.
"Eat!" Zheng Yifan had only this one thought, like a Zombie, devoid of reason.
Yet suddenly, amidst it all, a glimmer of rationality returned.
It could have been one second, or perhaps 0.01 seconds, but in that fleeting moment, Zheng Yifan made a move. Suddenly, a large bucket of milk tipped over and splashed all over his face. Then, he lost consciousness again.
In that instant, the bucket of milk had first been upended on his head, and then it spilled all over the ground.
The floor was made of concrete, rough with dust and the dry scent of cement, making it easy for the milk to be absorbed into the ground.
However, Zheng Yifan was completely devoid of rational thought; all he knew was hunger. The aroma of the milk attracted him, and he began to suck up the milk from the floor, not wanting to miss a single drop. He slowly licked and slurped at it, even if his tongue bled, it didn’t matter; swallowing mouthfuls of dust was insignificant in comparison.
Eventually, his entire head was buried in the milk bucket because there was still some milk left inside.
Gradually, Zheng Yifan regained a sliver of awareness; his rationality and control over his body returned. Although he still felt like a mummy, he began to sense his humanity again. Then came an overwhelming bitterness filling his mouth—a very astringent sensation that felt as if it were stuck in his throat. His tongue felt as if it had been tortured.
After more than ten minutes had passed, Zheng Yifan finally managed to spit out the dry dust with what little saliva he had left. He then poured bucket after bucket of clean water over his face, finally letting it crash onto his head.
He didn’t care whether his head had been bruised; he was focused on catching the falling water with his mouth to replenish his body's moisture.
After drinking from at least ten buckets of water, he slowly regained control over his body. Of course, those ten buckets were just the amount that had spilled; in reality, he had probably only consumed a few cups.
With a body that felt no better than a flimsy stick, Zheng Yifan sluggishly crawled up the stairs.
He could no longer stay in the basement; it had turned into a swamp.
Once back indoors, Zheng Yifan slowly crawled onto the sofa and began to take food out from Storage Space bit by bit.
His body was in dire need of nourishment, but suddenly he couldn’t eat anything too high in calories. He could only make gradual progress—starting with milk and bread, followed by some easily digestible instant porridge.
He then switched to high-calorie chocolate and self-heating steak.
Slowly, the table was piled high with wrappers; he had managed to consume a dozen roasted chickens. There were also a large number of bags whose contents were unidentifiable. Regardless, it looked quite alarming. The muscles and fat on his body had yet to return, as if those things had simply vanished.
Inside Zheng Yifan's body, the internal cells were continuously absorbing nutrients. The Super Soldier Serum brought about super cells that allowed his body to constantly absorb the nutrients from the food, restoring cellular strength.
It wasn't muscle or fat, but rather those most basic cells, which absorbed nutrients like parched sponges.
Then Zheng Yifan picked up the phone and ordered takeout, requesting a table full of high-calorie food.
This was Ladidia's favorite fast food place. It catered well to Western tastes and naturally offered high-calorie, high-fat super fattening junk food. However, Zheng Yifan was no longer concerned about becoming overweight; he was focused solely on whether he could regain his energy.
He ordered enough food for several people and then changed into a bathrobe, gently leaning back on the sofa while continuously drinking milk.
Minutes later, he visited the bathroom to relieve himself of excess impurities and moisture.
The functions of his bodily organs gradually recovered, and the restored parts began to perform at their peak. His body's recovery speed increased, and even the strength of the super soldier slowly returned.
"Ding dong!" After several trips to the bathroom, the delivery arrived. When Zheng Yifan opened the door, a delivery vehicle was parked outside. A worker began unloading boxes of food for him, arranging them in the living room. It took over ten minutes before Zheng Yifan finished checking everything and signed for the order.
Finally, unable to hold back any longer, the worker blurted out in English, "Are you throwing a party?"
Zheng Yifan could only smile wryly and nod. Who would buy so much food without throwing a party? It was ridiculous!
There was no such thing as a family gathering that involved overeating!
Next came the time for indulgence, as Zheng Yifan transformed into a food god... or perhaps a bottomless pit.
The delicious black pepper steak, cooked medium and topped with rich sauce, was usually savored slowly. But now, Zheng Yifan devoured half of it in one bite, casually chewed a couple of times, and swallowed it down. The other half followed suit, the entire process taking no more than five seconds.
Fried chicken, burgers, pizza, hot cocoa... all high-calorie, high-fat foods quickly diminished.
Time passed without him noticing.
In any case, all of this food eventually found its way into Zheng Yifan's mouth. Although he made countless trips to the restroom, he finally felt alive again.
He had returned to being a normal human.
However, the next wave of discomfort hit him—his body ached all over from the pain caused by the disruption of his Vital Energy Flow.
He couldn't go to the Apocalyptic World just yet; there was still a monster waiting for him there. He could only recover his strength in the real world before heading back to take down that beast! To be continued.
