Beneath the city walls, the people continued to exert tremendous pressure on those above. In the Hope Gathering Place, the fighting force was dwindling. Zheng Yifan had taken Li Ning away, and within Ruiguan, there were only a few first-level Superpowered Individuals left. Their Superpower Application was still in its early stages, yet they had already taken their positions on the walls to engage in battle.
The greatest reliance of the Two Major Legions was still on the resources left behind by Zheng Yifan; those were the tools for defending the city.
Now, the enemy forces were almost entirely pressed against the base of the walls, relying on metal sheets that made them nearly invincible. Even if some were killed by stones, they felt no remorse, as many of them were members of the Suicide Squad they had recruited. Using them for the siege cost nothing but could potentially take down this fortified checkpoint.
"We can't let this continue! We will never defeat them like this. Use incendiary devices! Bring all the drink bottles, wine jars, anything that can hold liquid! Set them on fire and burn them out! Even if our leader returns to repair this section of the wall later, we must eliminate these bastards!" On the wall, the Left Guard glared fiercely ahead.
"Even if it means mutual destruction, we must hold Ruiguan. As long as our leader returns, he will come back!" The Left Guard whispered softly when there were almost no others around.
Although there had been no casualties on their side for a long time, a large hole had already been breached in the wall. Without high-level powers present, once a significant breach was made and a few powerful Superpowered Individuals rushed in, there would be little hope left for the Hope Gathering Place. They could only face mutual destruction with the enemy.
Of course, that tactic would involve completely destroying the oil storage system, turning all of Ruiguan into an inferno. In that case, no one would be able to pass through Ruiguan; it would take a considerable amount of time to extinguish it.
However, if that happened, Hope Gathering Place would be finished. Without Ruiguan as a barrier, future confrontations with zombies and others would have no obstacles.
Upon receiving orders from the Left Guard, nearly everyone in Hope Gathering Place was mobilized. They took out everything that could store liquid and filled it with gasoline before sealing it off with the supply management team.
The logistics personnel quickly transported these various incendiary devices to Ruiguan.
Then they continued to deliver more.
The assault on Ruiguan from below showed no signs of stopping.
The air was cold now; there were no zombies around. The only thing driving them mad was the chill. Yet during the siege, they feared not the cold. Their body heat had been drawn out completely; sweat dripped down their bodies. Frost even clung to their thin clothing.
On Ruiguan, the soldiers wore specially made armor, thickly padded on the inside and draped with capes on the outside. It was indeed very warm, but their hearts were cold.
Using fire attacks would undoubtedly reduce the lifespan of the city walls. However, it was necessary now; otherwise, Hope Gathering Place would be lost.
They could only hope that even if they resorted to their last means, they could wait for the leader's return. As long as the powerful leader came back, a mere wave of his hand would be enough to deal with those weaklings known as Superpowered Individuals.
Almost every moment, someone was murmuring about the leader, hoping for his return.
At this time, Zheng Yifan was hurrying toward Ruiguan. The journey that had taken him a long time to push the cart would only take about half that time now. In another two hours, he would reach Ruiguan. Riding his bicycle, he realized that his stamina had improved to an inhuman level; he felt almost no fatigue at all. His eyesight had also become extraordinary; he could see everything clearly within a hundred meters, and even farther objects were distinguishable, as if he were viewing things within ten meters in the real world.
His hearing had evolved as well; he could pick up even the faintest sounds around him. The sound of the wind reached him constantly.
What pleased him most was that this ability could be adjusted freely by his body. If he didn’t want to utilize it, this miraculous state wouldn’t manifest. This was a result of natural evolution, preventing him from being overwhelmed by noise.
However, whenever he thought of Hope Gathering Place, a sense of unease crept into Zheng Yifan's heart. The thought of Ruiguan sent shivers down his spine, as if something bad were about to happen.
He had come to trust this instinctive feeling, so he pedaled straight toward Ruiguan.
The reality reflected this in various ways; for instance, he hadn’t encountered a single explorer team from Ruiguan along the way. This was abnormal.
Moreover, the windbreak trees that used to line the roadside had been nearly all cut down by some careless fools, leaving not even a root behind.
Now, with the highway exposed to the wind on both sides, Zheng Yifan rode his bicycle against the gusts that puffed out his clothes.
Under Ruiguan, the moment of truth had arrived. The city wall had been excavated to a depth of four or five meters, and they were still widening the hole while continuing to dig forward.
Inside the Ancient City Wall, there were no steel plate layers, which made it quite comfortable; it was just like digging for miners. Although those doing the work were all Superpowered Individuals, they didn’t care because the vast area ahead was about to become their territory.
"I’ve been a Superpowered Individual for several months now, and I still haven’t become a star in this Post-Apocalypse world. What a miserable fate! When can we enjoy that kind of life?" said a young Superpowered Individual while digging at the wall.
Another Superpowered Individual immediately scoffed, "Pfft, what’s so great about being a star? I’ve been with big stars before, and it’s not that different. But living well is nice. Once we make it big, brother, I’ll treat you to something nice."
He gradually squinted his eyes, seemingly reminiscing about something.
If Zheng Yifan could see him, he might have a fleeting memory of this pimple-faced Fellow who had bid on the Post-Apocalypse beauty Model Xiu Xiu at the Hope Gathering Place's Tail Auction.
However, he had now become a Superpowered Individual and unfortunately found himself under Zhou Tie's command.
Zhou Tie controlled a group of men, and even if there were women around, they were for Zhou Tie and Boss Wang to enjoy. They couldn’t even touch a finger.
As for his beloved Xiu Xiu, she had long since been living luxuriously with Boss Wang. After meeting Boss Wang, she had quietly established a connection with him and even stole one of his treasured B-Rank Essence Fruits.
He had mourned this loss for quite some time and still hadn’t fully recovered. That woman now looked down on him whenever they met, completely disregarding the favor of the person who had saved her from her plight.
He had once vowed silently that if he ever had the chance to rise above others, he would definitely take down Boss Wang to avenge the loss of his woman. As for Xiu Xiu, he didn’t have much real affection for her; he simply hoped to possess such a Post-Apocalypse celebrity.
Suddenly, a light sound echoed behind him. A strong smell of gasoline filled the entire passageway.
"The other side is using gasoline to attack! They've been pushed to a dead end; it seems this time Boss Wang and his crew are going to succeed again." Upon hearing this voice, the hope that had gradually risen within him was shattered once more. The five people in the cave collectively sighed. They had all been forced to join Boss Wang; otherwise, how could a Superpowered Individual end up in such dire straits? They were even compelled to dig at the city walls like miners.
It was all due to Zhou Tie's overwhelming power that they had no choice but to comply.
As for Boss Wang, let him eat dirt; that scoundrel only knows how to engage in petty tricks. If it weren't for Zhou Tie keeping them in check, they would have overturned him long ago.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" The sound of altars shattering echoed, and waves of heat surged toward them, sending chills down their spines.
Could it be that the Hope Gathering Place was going all out? Turning the entire Ruiguan into an Inferno?
If it were anyone else, they wouldn't believe those people had such power; it would require a Vast Amount of gasoline. But if it were the Boss of Hope Mall doing something like this, they would absolutely believe it.
Exchanging glances, everyone immediately dropped their picks and rushed outside. They were all Superpowered Individuals, unleashing their own Superpower.
Especially the Pimple-faced Man, whose Superpower had already reached the Second Tier. He could definitely be considered a strong fighter, but unfortunately, Zhou Tie had become a Third-Stage Esper weeks ago, far beyond his ability to contend with.
With his hands spread wide, he charged forward quickly, and those behind him followed his lead, also using their own Superpower.
Even those who weren't suited for combat tried their best to unleash their abilities; even being able to deflect the bottles and Oil Drums raining down from above was better than nothing.
They had never imagined that the pathetic air blade of Pimple-faced Man's Superpower would actually prove useful at this moment.
Especially since his current Superpower had formed into two swirling blades like a whirlwind, continuously spinning as if it were a fan, pushing all the heat waves aside while he charged forward.
Of course, the people behind him took the opportunity to rush out as well.
In an instant, the area of Ruiguan that had been attacked transformed into an Inferno. The most severely affected were the several Siege Towers, all consumed by flames.
The ordinary flames could not burn him, as there were Superpowered Individuals ready to extinguish them at any moment. But now, the flames had formed an Inferno, far beyond what an ordinary person could handle, resembling a Post-Apocalypse forest fire that was nearly impossible to fully contain; they could only mitigate the damage.
However, this was arson, and gasoline was being used—unless it burned out completely, it would not stop.
Even a temporary lack of oxygen could not hinder it, as the flames would adapt on their own, burning as much gasoline as there was oxygen available.
The flames instantly thwarted all of Boss Wang's plans. A damaged Ruiguan would make it even more difficult for them to defend.
They could handle ordinary humans just fine. Dealing with Zombies? Forget it. Even Zhou Tie faced significant danger when dealing with a Third-Stage Zombie. The main issue was that the tail hammer was too treacherous and fast enough to pose a real threat.
"Old Wang, are you finally willing to let me take action?" Zhou Tie shook off his suit and pulled out a large hammer used at a Construction Site. Resting it on his shoulder as if preparing for work, he strolled leisurely toward Ruiguan.
Though he appeared relaxed, everyone else looked on in terror, their hearts racing.
This was the imposing presence of a Third-Stage Esper. To be continued.
