It was a feast, a feast of slaughter, brought about by the combination of firearms and superpowered weapons. The powerful Primordial Iron had ushered in this change, and the formidable Psychic Weapon altered the balance between Superpowered Individuals and Zombies.
Humanity had made a leap forward, a true advancement in civilization.
Bullets continued to fire incessantly. The Machine Gun in his hands fired over seven hundred rounds per minute, still far from a true Machine Gun, but its power and speed were revolutionary. A single strike could easily penetrate ordinary Zombies, piercing through three or four without difficulty, while Second-Level Zombies could be torn to shreds.
A Third-Stage Zombie hidden among the horde had just revealed itself when it was hit by over a hundred consecutive rounds. Although it sustained no visible damage, one bullet penetrated through its eye socket, instantly turning the already tangled brain matter inside into mush. Only its fierce tail remained, slamming against the ground as its body slowly dissolved into sludge.
"Li Li is terrifying!" Zheng Yifan exclaimed. In the Post-Apocalypse, nothing compared to this fierce woman.
Her bright red cheongsam seemed dyed in blood. The weight of the Machine Gun rested entirely on her arms as her body swayed, revealing glimpses beneath the high slit of her dress. Yet no one dared to stare too long, for the flames spewing from her Machine Gun shook their very souls.
Of course, this did not include Zheng Yifan, who had indeed caught sight of pure white lingerie beneath her dress, along with a few stray hairs nearby.
He swore it was all subconscious.
What greeted him was Li Li's sharp sixth sense and her piercing gaze.
Zheng Yifan could only helplessly stand atop the Armored Transport Vehicle, wielding his Adamantium Shield as he continued to reap the lives of Zombies.
Suddenly, a group of Second-Level Zombies on the left seemed to go mad and charged forward—there were at least four or five hundred of them. They leaped like grasshoppers, closing in on the convoy.
"Focus fire on the left flank Zombies!" Zheng Yifan shouted. Without hesitation, he unleashed his hidden deadly move with all his might using the Adamantium Shield.
A massive amount of Vital Energy gathered at the center of the Adamantium Shield, generating a rotating force that continuously absorbed surrounding Vital Energy. The shield spun faster and faster until it exceeded a thousand revolutions per second. Then came forth waves of power capable of slicing through space itself; the winds turned into blades that cut through their bodies while electric currents caused their muscles to spasm.
Accompanying this were over a hundred Superpowered Individuals collectively unleashing their Superpowers. Flames and gales erupted simultaneously behind Zheng Yifan as four slow-moving Spherical Lightnings suddenly shot out from him. The lightning moved at a leisurely pace but formed a circle as they attracted each other with their radiant glow.
Do not ask why four Spherical Lightnings can form a circle; it is because the dispersed Spherical Lightning, which spread over a distance of forty to fifty meters, created a circular confinement of lightning that trapped the Zombies within. Then came a massive discharge, the intense current blowing apart over a hundred Zombies into fragments, nourishing the land.
The strong currents collided with each other, resulting in explosions. The Zombies simply could not withstand it.
Suddenly, a silver light burst forth, moving at lightning speed and covering a distance of over a hundred meters in an instant. The Zombies behind seemed to act as cover, all rushing out madly in pursuit.
A large number of attacks from Superpowered Individuals were completely ignored. Even the Firearm Espers had turned their Muzzles toward them; the Zombies were too conspicuous, so obvious that they could be spotted at a glance, leading to immediate attacks.
Among them, Li Li was the most ferocious. The Machine Gun targeted that flash of lightning, but his bullets always fired when he could hit two targets at once. The ammunition on the belt hanging beside him was running low; there were simply too many Zombies. Even if one bullet took down one Zombie, it was merely a drop in the bucket. Moreover, that was impossible.
“Zhi zhi zhi!” The continuous sounds of injury came from the opposite side; those were the Zombies whose bodies had been penetrated. They did not dodge but merely hoped to share the burden of that lightning-like Zombie.
In less than five seconds, moving as fast as lightning, it appeared right in front of Zheng Yifan.
It was an oddly evolved Zombie, with almost no other organs on its face—just dozens of eyes oozing green liquid, sticky and glistening on its face.
There was a fist-sized hole in its jaw from which a constantly extending mouthpart emerged, resembling a sharp sword ready to attack at any moment. Its short tail served more for balance than anything else.
The slimy appearance of its body was nauseating. But the most terrifying aspect was its limbs; faint scales combined with tentacle-like appendages made it even more repulsive. There were thin membranes between its body and arms, making its arms look like fleshy wings.
“Zhi!” A loud roar followed as the mouthpart slowly extended toward Zheng Yifan.
Zheng Yifan was positioned on the far left of the team and naturally became the first target.
However, Zheng Yifan was the strongest among them. While others would have been taken down by such an attack, Zheng Yifan raised his Adamantium Shield on his left arm and forcefully charged forward.
“Bang!” The violent impact made Zheng Yifan's body tremble. The Zombie before him was bizarre—so strange that it sent chills down his spine. What kind of creature was this? A Mutated Zombie? Or another type of Third-Stage Zombie?
Zheng Yifan was certain he was not facing a Fourth-Stage Zombie, because if it were at that level, he would definitely be the one at a disadvantage.
But he didn't have time to think about that. His hands trembled as he thrust the Silver Spear directly at the Zombie's fleshly wings.
That was likely the most vulnerable spot on its body. Although this Zombie appeared to be nothing more than a mass of flying flesh, lacking skin and only showing blackened muscle with liquid continuously dripping from it.
However, Zheng Yifan had clearly observed the Zombie. Just as he lunged forward, the Zombie suddenly stretched out its arms, and with the resistance of the air, its body shot up into the air, hovering momentarily.
An opportunity!
Zheng Yifan had been waiting for this moment. He quickly hurled the Adamantium Shield, aiming for the spot where the Zombie had yet to land, meaning it had no way to block his attack except by flapping its wings.
This was the chance he had been anticipating. The Zombie seemed oblivious, extending its mouth wide open, revealing a long appendage over a meter in length that resembled a sword. It had a thumb-sized hole in the middle, capable of sucking Zheng Yifan dry like jelly in no time.
Ignoring the Zombie, Zheng Yifan shook the Silver Spear in his hands and thrust again. This time, however, he infused his understanding of Wildfire Spreading into the attack. Sparks flickered at the spear's tip as he closed in on the Zombie.
"Screech!" The Zombie roared as it lunged toward the Adamantium Shield. With a loud crash, the shield flew back violently, and the Zombie soared into the air again, propelled even higher by the force of impact.
Yet Zheng Yifan was certain it wouldn't come out unscathed. The powerful impact of the Adamantium Shield combined with its Vital Energy would surely erupt all at once, unleashing tremendous force that would expel everything from its stomach.
A torrent of green liquid sprayed out with a splatter that was absolutely nauseating, forcing Zheng Yifan to dodge quickly.
The liquid splattered onto the ground and was quickly absorbed by the surrounding plants, leaving no trace behind and avoiding Zheng Yifan entirely. The swirling air currents created by his spinning Adamantium Shield swept all of it away.
In an instant of successful attack, Zheng Yifan charged forward with his Silver Spear in hand.
He aimed directly for the Zombie's neck.
In that fleeting moment, Zheng Yifan discovered the weakness of the Zombie. At that moment, it was at its most vulnerable because it had lost its speed, leaving it without any deadly moves.
Unfortunately, Zheng Yifan's hopes were dashed. Slowly, the Zombie collapsed to the ground, curling up and choking, its sounds grating like fingernails on a chalkboard, making one feel extremely uncomfortable. Then, a large amount of liquid erupted from it, spewing forth with tremendous force.
It was astonishing that it could expel the liquid from its body, which had absorbed the power Zheng Yifan had unleashed.
Once it finished vomiting, the Zombie appeared noticeably shriveled, its mental state also deteriorating. However, its murderous intent showed no signs of waning as its frenzied figure lunged toward Zheng Yifan.
In an instant, it was like a flash of lightning disappearing right before Zheng Yifan's eyes.
In mid-air, Zheng Yifan flew backward, his Silver Spear aimed directly at the Zombie.
As expected.
The destructive force upon landing was terrifying; Zheng Yifan barely managed to evade it. The claws carried a potent Zombie Virus and were exceptionally sharp.
Below him, an Armored Transport Vehicle had been completely overturned, its shell flipped like a Mediterranean wave, exposing the driver inside.
The few Superpowered Individuals following Zheng Yifan were drenched in sweat. If they hadn’t been the target just moments ago, they would have surely met their doom.
But in that instant, before Zheng Yifan could land, the lightning-fast Zombie attacked once more. (To be continued)
