The unavoidable fate loomed as Zheng Yifan's Adamantium Shield followed closely behind. The powerful wind blade was already close enough to touch his frail body. 0

The Second-Level Zombie could not guarantee his survival. He was left with only his last resort. 0

“Chirp!~” The Leader Zombie's deadly weapon reemerged, and the overwhelming sound waves caused Zheng Yifan to fall to the ground. The surrounding Zombies were even less able to withstand it; they seemed to have received a self-destruct signal, their bodies gradually transforming into green liquid—Zombie Fluid. The nearly destructive sound sent Zheng Yifan's body into a state of numbness, leaving him unable to focus on anything else. It felt as if his body was about to explode. Even though he had experienced this once before, it was certainly not a pleasant ordeal. 0

His head felt like it was going to burst. Nearby, a Large Area Zombie was taken down by the sound waves. Zheng Yifan couldn't bring himself to kill the Zombie Leader; its destructive power far exceeded his own. All of its subordinates seemed to receive the self-destruct command, gradually beginning to vanish. Perhaps it would only take five seconds? Or maybe four seconds, or even just one second for the other Zombies to completely perish. 0

But Zheng Yifan could no longer hold back. The sound waves were driving him nearly insane; if he continued to endure, he feared he would perish before the Zombies did. 0

With a swift motion of his left hand, the Adamantium Shield flew toward the Zombie Leader like a streak of light, claiming its fragile life before it even had time to react. 0

However, the cost for Zheng Yifan was immense; blood flowed from all seven orifices, which was merely a light injury. His entire body felt brittle, as if it could shatter with a single touch. Even standing still caused him to tremble uncontrollably. His eyes were nearly devoid of spirit as he slowly began to recover. 0

After what felt like an eternity, he finally regained his composure. The sight before him astonished him: a scene of devastation. The ground was covered in murky green liquid—Zombies that had not yet died. 0

They now resembled blobs of slime from a video game, mere puddles of green liquid congealed together. 0

All the Zombies within thousands of square meters had perished without exception, utterly destroyed, as if responding to a death signal. 0

Of course, what the Zombie Leader truly wanted to annihilate was Zheng Yifan. 0

Looking at the now limp Leader Zombie on the ground, Zheng Yifan carefully prodded its body with his Silver Spear. The Zombie Leader's body slowly began to dissolve into Zombie Fluid. However, some parts remained intact—the essence of its being. 0

The Zombie Crystal still existed, beautiful and alluring, but this particular Zombie Crystal from the Zombie Leader resembled a lollipop, round and filled with purple fluff resembling willow catkins. 0

In the most grotesque of Zombies lay such a beautiful object. Once the Zombie fully transformed into liquid, Zheng Yifan used a handkerchief to pick up the Zombie Crystal and stored it in his Storage Space. He merely set fire to the surrounding Zombies and paid them no further mind; after all, their bodies contained oily fat. Under the flames, these nearly immobile Zombies stood no chance of survival. 0

He quickly made his escape, running across the grassland for over two minutes before taking flight again. This time his target was Ruiguan; he needed to replenish his fuel before launching another attack. 0

However, he needed to prepare some materials beforehand—at least some soundproofing materials. He couldn't allow the Zombie Leader to cast its soul-stealing magic on him every time! 0

This time, he had mastered the technique of Glide, showing no signs of awkwardness. Superpowered Individuals were the darlings of this world, possessing robust physiques and the ability to control their destinies with their superpowers, along with enhanced brains and comprehension skills. 0

What once required gradual learning of the Glide umbrella could now be simulated effortlessly in Zheng Yifan's mind after just a glance at the Installation Manual. 0

Everything felt so natural. 0

Soaring through the air was exhilarating, as long as there weren't any Zombies below. 0

The battle continued fiercely; Ruiguan was in a perilous situation, not expecting the Zombies to be so deadly. 0

In mid-air, Zheng Yifan could already count the number of Leader Zombies. There were only seven true Leader Zombies, while the others were merely newly promoted Fellows, even weaker than the one Zheng Yifan had just defeated. 0

These Leader Zombies had become subordinates to other Leader Zombies, completely obeying orders. 0

Before joining the fight, Zheng Yifan couldn't discern this difference, but once he participated in the battle, it became clear how distinct they were from one another. 0

The true Leader Zombies would first think to conceal themselves among the powerful Zombie horde. 0

They wouldn’t draw attention but would rely on their strongest forces for protection. 0

Meanwhile, those acting as subordinates would charge into battle, truly fighting on the front lines. 0

Of course, aside from their formidable combat abilities, their terrifying roars remained a lethal weapon. 0

It was as if they possessed bizarre abilities akin to those of Superpowered Individuals. However, the mental Superpowered Individuals at Hope Gathering Place had yet to develop; their highest rank was merely Second-Stage Esper. They could only handle menial tasks on the battlefield—adequate against ordinary people but utterly helpless against Superpowered Individuals and Zombies. 0

Despite this, mental Superpowered Individuals within the entire Gathering Place were still restricted from using their superpowers within the city. Any violations would result in punishment, with severe cases leading to immediate execution. 0

This was also a precaution against them using their superpowers to control ordinary people in critical sectors. 0

After all, not everyone was a Superpowered Individual. Although they would gradually learn to use Essence to become Superpowered Individuals, it required a process of accumulation. 0

During this process, one might unexpectedly fall victim to the schemes of a Superpowered Individual lurking in the shadows. Even more terrifying is that as they reach higher levels, they may even gain the ability to manipulate these Superpowered Individuals. This is the true horror of the situation. 0

In response, the entire Hope Gathering Place continues to implement preventive measures to guard against such occurrences. 0

However, the first real encounter with a powerful mentalist is today, against those Leader Zombies. 0

When Glide was at the forefront of Rui Guan City, Zheng Yifan exerted all his strength, grabbing onto the city wall of Ruiguan and pulling down Glide's umbrella entirely. 0

Nearby, warriors immediately helped Zheng Yifan untie all the ropes. The Zombies had already pushed to the foot of Ruiguan's walls, and Second Tier and above Zombies were engaged in battle at the gates. 0

All Firearm Espers could no longer ensure the safety of the walls; they could only try to eliminate those distant Second-Level Zombies while nearby Zombies were dealt with by melee Superpowered Individuals. 0

Fifty meters to the right of Zheng Yifan, a Second-Level Zombie suddenly leaped into the air, its Scorpion Tail whipping out violently, targeting a Middle-Aged Man in front. 0

This man was a melee Superpowered Individual; he thrust his left hand forward to block while his right hand struck fiercely. 0

The Scorpion Tail pierced through his left arm and carved a deep wound along his side, but he retaliated by smashing his fist into the Zombie's head, exploding it. He was a Second-Stage Esper, yet he still felt powerless against the Second-Level Zombie. 0

Not everyone has luck like Li Ning Zhou Rui, who had once risked his life to obtain an Essence Fruit and survived by consuming it as one of the Lucky Ones. 0

Now, on the battlefield, he fought desperately for survival because he needed Military Merit and a Psychic Weapon. As long as he had a trap and a Round Shield, his chances of surviving in battle would increase significantly. 0

Future battles would only grow more difficult; they had to seize every second. Obtaining his own Psychic Weapon and becoming a Third-Stage Esper was his next dream. 0

However, he was clearly feeling despair as four Second-Level Zombies suddenly appeared before him, all leaping towards him with their Scorpion Tails fully raised. 0

His mind was completely tense; perhaps after spending so long in this apocalyptic world, he had lost all fear and instead felt anger—a willingness to fight to the death. He was someone who would risk everything; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to gather enough resources for a Psychic Weapon when others were still unable to hope for one. That trap was what he longed for—just one would be enough to amplify his otherwise not-so-powerful Superpower and accelerate his acquisition of Military Merit. 0

But now, all his hopes were nearly shattered because death was imminent. 0

“Damn it! These bastards just won’t let me live!” He had already fought desperately; facing four Second-Level Zombies, he had become all offense and no defense, abandoning all protection as he gathered his Superpower between his hands. 0

Then came the blinding light, a fierce punch, the strike of his death blow. 0

In that moment, concerning death, there was almost no chance for survival—if Zheng Yifan had not seen it coming. But often, the outcome is just like this; Zheng Yifan instinctively raised his head. With the Glide umbrella not fully opened, he awkwardly swung his left arm to throw out the Adamantium Shield, which arced with electric light as it sliced through the heads of four Zombies and the Scorpion Tail in an instant. The wind blade severed both the Scorpion Tail and the head to prevent it from attacking the Superpowered Individual after death. 0

Zheng Yifan's heart was wise; the inertia of the four Zombies was enough for the Scorpion Tail to injure that Superpowered Individual. He never thought he could be saved and attacked without any defense. 0

With no thought of using his left arm as a shield, he focused solely on attacking. His fists moved relentlessly, glowing with energy as they struck the head of a Second-Level Zombie, sending it flying. 0

Then came more attacks, falling like a meteor shower. In a moment of clarity, he even felt as if his soul was transcending. 0

Only by giving up everything could he comprehend more; he was closer to the path of a Third-Stage Esper. 0

Turning his head, he nodded in salute towards Zheng Yifan before slowly retreating from the battlefield while clutching his wound. 0

He needed to recuperate; perhaps just ten minutes would suffice. Because Superpower not only allowed for combat but also for healing. 0

For instance, Old Hou was busy at the Logistics Department... (To be continued) 0
