This was no longer just a trap; it was a complete betrayal. Zheng Yifan could hardly describe his feelings as he looked at the person before him, filled with murderous intent. It wasn't just a moment of anger; it was because they had slaughtered many of his own reports. 0

The killing intent spread once more, and at that moment, the Adamantium Shield shone with a furious light, cutting through the air like a dazzling comet. 0

All that remained was the sound of screams from the other side, and then silence fell. 0

It seemed even the wind had calmed significantly. Yet Zheng Yifan knew that the drops of blood pooling on the ground were all that remained of them. 0

"Ah!" A choked cry escaped his throat, representing their last words in this world before they vanished into nothingness. 0

He walked over to take a quick look at their bodies. There was nothing unusual about them, except for their bloodshot eyes and the stench of blood. Zheng Yifan could not fathom why humans would torment one another in such a way. 0

Especially using such extreme methods. He carefully surveyed the area they had come from and immediately understood. 0

That place was a workshop behind them, but it had been transformed by unknown hands into a factory of flesh and blood. Just one glance was enough for Zheng Yifan to know what went on inside. 0

It was essentially a slaughterhouse where humans would be dismembered and turned into food for those Survivors. 0

There was no compassion, only raw slaughter. Zheng Yifan hated this feeling, yet in this apocalyptic world, such evil melodies were inescapable. 0

Ahead lay that wicked factory; Zheng Yifan had seen many like it before. As he stepped inside, he felt an overwhelming urge to vomit. The ground was nearly covered in blood, sticky and repulsive enough to make anyone sick. Even more horrifying were the severed limbs carelessly tossed into buckets and the heads hanging from the ceiling, all showcasing the terror of this place. 0

Fortunately, Ten Thousand Steps and the others had not entered; otherwise, these scientists would surely have been terrified beyond belief. 0

Zheng Yifan did not want them to be exposed to too much of the horrors of this world. He wanted them to maintain the spirit of exploration that a scientist should have, rather than obsessively researching weapons for this apocalypse or thinking about killing or zombies. 0

"Is there anyone else?" Zheng Yifan silently asked himself. 0

Inside, there were only a few choked sounds before silence returned once more. 0

As Zheng Yifan continued deeper into the room, his sense of astonishment grew stronger. There were indeed people inside, and they were men. Their voices were faint, but Zheng Yifan could hear them clearly. He truly heard them. 0

They were not women in captivity, nor were they the elderly or weak; they were men, just like those Zheng Yifan had dealt with earlier—brutal and muscular men. 0

Upon closer inspection, he noticed several men upside down in a wooden barrel in the corner, their bodies submerged in blood that was nearly reaching their nostrils. Bubbles were rising continuously from within. 0

Zheng Yifan approached and kicked the barrel hard, flipping it over. He needed to understand the situation here. 0

“Get out here, you cowards!” he shouted, kicking again. The barrel shattered, revealing three men inside who were twitching helplessly. 0

Looking closely, Zheng Yifan couldn't help but laugh. 0

The three men were huddled together, wrapped in duct tape. They looked just like something out of a movie. 0

“You three fellows are so eager to die that you’re sticking together for it. I won’t hold back,” Zheng Yifan said as he thrust his Silver Spear into the stomach of the man at the front, then used the tip to peel away the tape from their mouths. The initial friendliness of these fellows had vanished. 0

“Let us go quickly, or you’ll regret it! Lord Lin will have you for dinner tonight!” shouted the man pinned beneath the other two, his voice hoarse with fear. 0

“Oh? You really don’t cry until you see the coffin. Even in this state, you still think you can threaten me? I’m so scared!” Zheng Yifan laughed heartily, but his spear moved past the other two and pierced into the man’s abdomen. 0

This position would only damage internal organs but wouldn’t necessarily lead to immediate death. In ancient times, even someone who had been cut in half could still manage to say a few words. Moreover, it was merely a penetrating wound, and Zheng Yifan had avoided any critical areas. 0

“Best be smart about this; next time I might just stab your mouth instead. Then you won’t be able to answer!” Zheng Yifan threatened loudly, his eyes filled with murderous intent. 0

Yet the three men remained unfazed. 0

They had experienced too much slaughter in this apocalyptic world; they lived like butchers and had tasted what it was like to be on the chopping block. No one could comprehend their mindset—completely deranged and unyielding. 0

Facing the three stubborn individuals, Zheng Yifan found himself at a loss. Strangely, he thought of the scientists outside. 0

Especially the one known as Ten Thousand Steps, who was notorious for diluting gutter oil with water to pass it off as soybean oil. Despite his usual silence, it was only because nothing had caught his attention yet. Once something did attract him, chaos would surely ensue. 0

"Boom! Boom!" The ventilation duct shook violently, and Zheng Yifan looked up in surprise at the vent above him. There were a few girls trapped inside, but he hadn't paid much attention to them until now. However, it was impossible to ignore the commotion now; the duct was shaking violently, followed by loud banging sounds. Fist imprints appeared along the narrow passage, clearly the work of a Superpowered Individual—something an ordinary person could never achieve. 0

With that realization, Zheng Yifan felt completely at ease. It would be far too easy for a Superpowered Individual to rescue a few people from this group of useless individuals. Unfortunately, it seemed that the girls above had run into some bad luck; they were stuck in the duct for some unknown reason. It was evident that they were wedged in there like sausages and couldn't move at all. 0

"Hey! Do you need help?" Zheng Yifan shouted, gently pricking the duct with his Silver Spear. 0

All it needed was a small opening; he believed that the Superpowered Individual could surely create an escape route. 0

From what he could tell, this individual was just an ordinary First-Level Esper with no extraordinary power. 0

"Bang!" A delicate pink fist emerged from the broken duct, a few drops of blood trickling down that soft hand. Yet the girl seemed oblivious to her injury as she pounded on the already damaged duct. 0

"Drip, drip." Blood fell just half a meter away from Zheng Yifan as the woman attacked the duct frantically. Behind her came cries of pain from others. 0

The damage wasn't limited to the outside; the inside was also deforming as the walls of the duct began to constrict. 0

"Hey! Do you need help?" Zheng Yifan shouted again, but the girl above ignored him completely. Minutes later, the vent had warped into a twisted shape resembling a corkscrew. The girl behind was nearly suffocated from being squeezed so tightly when she finally broke open a large hole in the duct. 0

The girl who descended looked very androgynous, her hair haphazardly cut like a bird's nest. Her face was covered in dust, and her clothes were unrecognizable in color. 0

What surprised Zheng Yifan most was the deep scar on her face near her mouth, which left him stunned. The wound was severe enough that it almost pierced through her cheek; if it hadn't been crudely stitched up, one could almost see her teeth inside. 0

This woman stood before Zheng Yifan with an unmistakable aura of hostility directed at him. 0

Perhaps in her eyes, all men were nothing but trouble. 0

Zheng Yifan had already seen her right hand launching a straight punch toward him, every muscle in his body tensing up. However, the force behind it was something he could withstand even without dodging, thanks to his physical strength. 0

She was merely a low-level Superpowered Individual, even less capable than an ordinary person in the Hope Gathering Place. 0

Ordinary people still had the chance to use high Essence Liquid to become formidable Superpowered Individuals. But those who became Superpowered Individuals through Low-Level Essence Fruit were relegated to the lowest tiers or forced to live alongside regular people. They had exhausted their potential and could only develop in other ways in the future. Many ended up using their not-so-powerful Superpowers to secure stable jobs in various factories, living their lives like cogs in a machine, or waiting for some opportunity to arise. 0

Yet, in the outskirts of Ancheng, ordinary Superpowered Individuals could already claim dominance. The woman before him must have been in dire circumstances to resort to something as toxic as a poison with only a three or four percent success rate! 0

She had survived but at the cost of her looks and without any powerful Superpower; she merely possessed physical qualities far superior to those of an ordinary person. 0

The woman following her must have been rescued. Her figure was still somewhat voluptuous, but her face bore the marks of torment, devoid of much vitality. She looked almost like a living corpse. 0

"Who are you? I don’t recall Lord Lin having any lackeys added to his ranks," the woman said bluntly as she stared at Zheng Yifan. 0

"Oh? Who I am isn’t important; what matters is how much you know. Do you know everything about that so-called Lord Lin?" Zheng Yifan replied with a sly smile on his face. 0

He needed to find out how much this woman knew, extracting the crucial information from her so that the three men behind her could be dealt with later. They were definitely not killing for hunger; Zheng Yifan had seen them eating porridge at the table—real Rice Porridge, albeit slightly damp. It was still edible and did not affect human survival. 0

As for human flesh, that might just be one dish on their table, a delicacy meant to provide good flavor. To them, those people might simply be Two-Legged Sheep, not humans at all. (To be continued...) 0
