The immortal had already boarded the Yellow Crane and departed, leaving only the Yellow Crane Tower behind.
Zheng Yifan was unaware of the scene unfolding before him, nor did he wish to know. All he knew was that the terrifying crane flashed its massive wings and flew away from the side. They could not see it, as they were far from the aircraft and lacked radar; only Zheng Yifan witnessed everything.
He was certain that he absolutely could not go outside. His subordinates, the scientists, needed reassurance; they needed confidence to continue flying toward the Hope Gathering Place.
In just fifteen minutes, the plane cruised effortlessly. Within a short span of time, it had crossed over a hundred kilometers, traversing through a cloud zone into an expanse of deep blue sky, accompanied only by endless blue and fresh air. Zheng Yifan could even encompass the entire sky with his gaze; ahead was boundless, and behind was infinite!
Navigation relied entirely on Ten Thousand Steps. He had already opened the hatch of the fish fin cockpit, enjoying the fresh air that one could hardly experience in the real world.
In that moment, it felt as if all his cells began to sing; it was a refreshing sensation, as if the entire natural environment had been purified by Vital Energy.
Enjoying this rare tranquility, Zheng Yifan looked up at the sky. The altitude of their flight had decreased significantly; he could see that they were only a few hundred meters above ground. Ten Thousand Steps was desperately searching for reference points.
Comfortable moments always pass fleetingly. Zheng Yifan had barely enjoyed the natural scenery when he spotted several flocks of migrating birds.
As he admired nature's beauty, Zheng Yifan observed those birds without any hint of tension. Previously, he had held a wariness toward everything in the sky, but upon truly understanding these creatures, he felt at ease.
The birds did not turn into Zombies nor would they attack others for no reason; to them, humans were merely ordinary animals. Zombies were their primary food source.
As for flying humans, in their eyes, they were nothing more than flying ants. Ants remained ants; even if they could fly, it was no big deal.
Amidst the mocking gazes of those beasts, Zheng Yifan extended his middle finger as the aircraft flashed past and left the space before him.
“Report! There are numerous moving targets on the ground, suspected vehicles from a Gathering Place; however, we cannot confirm the specific vehicle models!” Ten Thousand Steps reported to Zheng Yifan via radio.
“Continue forward! Target: Hope Gathering Place! I do not want you asking such questions again. We must return to the Gathering Place as quickly as possible; nothing else matters!” Zheng Yifan shouted into the communicator, causing a crackling sound that left the scientists in the cabin feeling dizzy.
Advance! Only advance! The longer time passed, the closer they got to Hope Gathering Place. Seeing people at Tiger Mouth Gathering Place transporting supplies below confirmed to Zheng Yifan that he was not far from the enemy.
They were transporting supplies; frontline conditions were tense. If they pushed through smoothly without any obstacles, there would be no troublesome issues directly within Hope Gathering Place regarding Supplies.
Zheng Yifan knew exactly how much he had brought back to enhance his reality level to Fifth Level.
It was enough supplies for a million people to live for a year—everything from food to oil and vinegar—almost all necessities for life were prepared by Zheng Yifan.
That was an entire year's worth of inventory for Gathering Place—a stockpile meant primarily for military rewards and sales to other Gathering Places.
Hope Gathering Place had long become the largest bulk goods center in the vicinity.
“Lead! Heart!” Ten Thousand Steps roared loudly in the cabin while continuously pressing buttons on the control panel.
In an instant, the plane transformed like Transformers into a pure black form more suitable for high-speed flight.
“What’s wrong?” Zheng Yifan shouted in confusion! The voice was heart-wrenching!
"Look! A large mass of rapidly moving black mist, suspected to be a creature. If we charge through, we should reach our base within a five-kilometer range!" Ten Thousand Steps roared, pushing the aircraft's performance to its limits, unleashing the strongest power hidden within that wooden material.
That was Ten Thousand Steps' last trump card, the place where he had invested the most effort.
How could ordinary parts assembled together possibly allow Ten Thousand Steps, this Fellow, to fully immerse himself? Compared to a group of First Level Superpowered Individual s, he felt like an adult facing the same problem among children. If he didn't do everything to the best of his ability, it would be nothing short of an insult.
The entire fuselage underwent steel-hardening treatment, utilizing pure energy to initiate the most powerful operation. All Zombie Crystal s began operating at maximum power, and the strong Vital Energy Fluctuation made Zheng Yifan feel as if he were riding on waves.
He had never imagined that it could reach this level. The Hope Gathering Place lacked such talent; it truly did. Utilizing energy like this was what allowed the Yellow Emperor Tribe to stand firm in the First Vitality Era.
It was a direct strike against all enemies who aimed for mutual destruction while still forcing themselves to endure. No one could erase their bravery.
A swarm of creatures resembling black clouds flew in from above, and the migrating Birds around seemed to sense the enemy, desperately trying to escape. The aircraft's target was right ahead.
They couldn't run; if they turned a corner, they would lose track of where they were headed and it would be too late to return.
"Charge! I'll handle those flies! You just need to push forward!" Zheng Yifan's body was almost entirely out of the cockpit, his hands gripping the Silver Spear tightly. The Avatar of the Believers was no longer useful; against those tiny insects, splitting his focus would only drain Zheng Yifan's energy.
He needed a powerful area attack to eliminate those things.
What was the best option?
If it were Li Ning, he would use Duality to shred all those insects into pieces! But Zheng Yifan didn't have that capability; he could only unleash his most expansive killing move.
Wildfire Spreading—this was all he had for now. However, he could use the Adamantium Shield in advance. The shield charged with powerful electricity generated immense force in mid-air; it was definitely more than just 1+1. The air and Vital Energy were completely attracted, creating massive energy. The wildly spinning Vital Energy stirred up the air into a vortex, with thin currents swirling into the enormous swarm whose size was beyond comprehension.
As if a cow had sunk into the sea, Zheng Yifan could only watch as the torrential Swarm completely engulfed the Adamantium Shield, leaving not even a scrap behind.
"Keep going!" Like a Pirate Captain from the Age of Discovery, Zheng Yifan held his Silver Spear steady, embodying the spirit of a beggar who would charge forward despite the multitude against him.
"Kill!" The simplest tactic: assassination!
He could only resort to assassination; it was his sole instinct left—assassination!
Waves of stabbing attacks surged forth.
"Clang! Clang!" The sounds of collisions echoed around him as layers of insects fell to the ground, yet more insects surged upward.
Gradually, Zheng Yifan drew closer to the Swarm, and the image of the insects became clearer.
They were roughly the size of a large thumb, resembling ants from a Post-Apocalypse world, but they were not ants; they were a bizarre kind of insect. Zheng Yifan could swear he had never seen such creatures before. However, he had witnessed their terrifying power firsthand. Just as he continued his assault, some insects had already crawled onto the aircraft and bit down hard.
"Creak!" A sound that sent chills down his spine resonated, and he could clearly see a piece of metal being bitten off from the aircraft.
It was as if this insect devoured it like food.
"What the hell is this thing?" The power of these insects was simply terrifying. Zheng Yifan knew how sturdy this aircraft was, yet it felt as easy to bite through as cake.
A significant chunk of the aircraft's body, comparable to Post-Apocalypse-grade metals, was gnawed away. Zheng Yifan quickly waved his left hand to retrieve the Adamantium Shield.
However, when the Adamantium Shield returned to his grasp, he could hardly recognize it. This was not the Adamantium Shield he had used! It had turned into trash; its surface was coated with a thick layer of black liquid. The protective coating had completely vanished, and only the handle remained intact; all other defensive measures had disappeared.
Only the Adamantium alloy remained firm.
"Incoming collision! Estimated time: three minutes!" The cockpit's Ten Thousand Steps reported data. Based on the thickness of the Swarm, it would take just three minutes to break through.
Of course, in those three minutes, this aircraft would cover an immense distance, crossing over to Hope Gathering Place's territory—almost a certainty!
"Agreed! No more nonsense! Let's go!" With those final words, Zheng Yifan launched another fierce assault with the Silver Spear, flames bursting into the Swarm like sparks igniting a fire.
"Charge!" With that last command, everyone rushed into the Swarm with a determination to face death. What awaited them was not a joyful journey, but a path leading to death—a mere three minutes of it.
The insects began to gnaw at the aircraft, creating pockmarked dents on its surface as more bugs descended upon them.
The insects showed no regard for whether they were devouring their own kind; in the face of food, even their own species could be killed. They continued their relentless feast without pause.
In this silent battle, Zheng Yifan poured all his strength into the Silver Spear, wielding it like a tempest. His power had reached its limit, and he unleashed every ounce of energy he possessed.
Yet before the sea of insects, it was merely a drop in the bucket.
A multitude of bugs began to swarm over the surface of the aircraft, each bite stripping away a sliver of material.
Insects crawled onto Zheng Yifan as well, their mandibles biting down hard on his flesh. It felt like being bitten by mosquitoes—difficult to even register that faint pain.
But Zheng Yifan knew that if he didn't find a way out, he might not survive this ordeal. (To be continued!)
