After an inspiring show, Zheng Yifan was finally preparing for the expedition. The crowd behind him was filled with excitement; he seemed almost divine, amplified by the influence of Superpower and the lingering regal aura left by the Yellow Emperor.
This was not something visible but rather an inexplicable Fortune that enveloped Zheng Yifan, representing the legitimacy of the Yellow Emperor Tribe.
It was akin to the emperors of the Post-Apocalypse era. With Fortune on his side, all evils would be repelled!
However, the Fortune of Huangdi was even more formidable; it was a mark of an era, a Fortune of its time.
Even Chiyou had exhausted all available resources and played every trump card in his war against Huangdi to emerge victorious.
Walking down the street, members of the Guard Camp were eager and ready. They received the best treatment, and naturally, their weapons were top-notch. Most now wielded Psychic Weapons, and their levels were not too low.
Zheng Yifan had not been away from Hope Gathering Place for long. Yet, the movements at Tiger Mouth Gathering Place left him feeling quite passive.
The battle at Hope Gathering Place was imminent, but they were not yet prepared for it.
Preparations had been focused on development. All resources were concentrated on researching Superpowered Weapons and utilizing Superpowered Individuals, with much effort also put into business operations.
But now they faced a ruthless enemy in Tiger Mouth Military Base, making all their preparations seem inadequate.
Hope Gathering Place resembled a lifestyle-oriented Gathering Place, fully focused on developing civilian projects. However, now Tiger Mouth, which was intent on military strength, was coming to attack. Zheng Yifan's defensive capabilities appeared lacking in comparison.
If only they had a few more months—just one month would allow Hope Gathering Place to develop fully.
At that point, they could easily overpower those from Tiger Mouth Gathering Place.
Even if they possessed Zombie Potions, as long as Hope Gathering Place could truly develop long-range attack weapons, they could destroy their Floating Ships. By then, nothing would matter; no matter how powerful their tricks were, if they couldn't cross the river's moat, it would all be in vain.
"Chief! Is there any point in us arriving this early? They haven't launched an attack yet!" Li Ning reminded him with a laugh from behind.
Zheng Yifan smiled and pointed to the opposite side at Li Ning.
"If we get cornered at home and beaten up, that would be so humiliating. If we're going to fight, let's take the initiative. We should fire the first shot and strike back at their first attack," Zheng Yifan declared with great confidence.
"I can handle this myself; you all stay here and wait," Zheng Yifan said, still not reassured by them, fearing they might mess things up. He shot them a fierce glare, not giving them a chance to explain.
The nearby Guard Camp warriors stared blankly at Zheng Yifan, seemingly unsure of what to do.
Zheng Yifan nodded vigorously. "Did you see my earlier form? It's something you can't compare to. I will definitely defeat all enemies."
Even if faced with the greatest enemy in the world, Zheng Yifan remained fearless.
"Chief! Why not let me go instead?" Li Ning gritted his teeth and insisted on volunteering. Zheng Yifan had just returned and hadn't even rested; he wanted him to take a break and not tire himself out further.
"You can't handle this! Only I can do it, so don't argue! If anyone can cross the river without any assistance, I'll hand this task over to you. If not, then wait for my news." Thousands of people had simultaneously sealed off the river, but no one could cross it. The Floating Ship docked at Sun Jiangmian was proof of that. Their Floating Ship didn't even dare to connect now.
They could have connected at any time, but they needed a large number of Zombies to lure the creatures in the river before they could build a Floating Ship to bring everyone across.
This place was not meant for humans; it was the private territory of the river's creatures. Zheng Yifan's goal was to cross the river and bring death to those at the Tiger Mouth Military Base on the other side.
"Chief!"
"Shut up!"
Before Li Ning could say anything further, he was silenced by Zheng Yifan's sharp command. He knew Li Ning wanted to dissuade him, but it would be futile; what Zheng Yifan needed was battle—he needed to instill fear in those on the other side.
Silence fell over them; no one spoke again. Zheng Yifan's imposing presence grew more formidable, and few dared to contradict his words.
"Leader! If you really have to go, please take me with you! Even if I die, I want to die in front of you!" Li Ning's eyes were already glistening with tears.
"What are you crying for? I'm just going to kill a few people. You stay here and wait. Right now, I've got a tough task for you: go to the logistics warehouse and pick up 1,000 frozen Legs of Lamb. They need to be roasted by the time I get back, or I'll eat you instead!" Zheng Yifan said fiercely.
This was for Zheng Yifan's post-battle celebration. While 1,000 Legs of Lamb seemed like a lot, in reality, it wouldn't amount to much when shared among dozens of people; each person would only get a small piece of meat.
"Alright! We'll be waiting here." Before Li Ning could say anything else, one of the guards beside him grabbed him and silenced him.
Zheng Yifan glanced at him appreciatively before taking two steps forward.
He stepped into the river, the water shimmering and rippling around him. As he walked deeper, the water soon reached his knees. He gently placed the Left-Handed Edman Alloy Shield on the Frozen Surface, and then the Power of Faith erupted. The force suddenly manifested on the Adamantium Shield, appearing at one corner where it rapidly transformed into an impressive shape while the rest of the shield remained unchanged.
Zheng Yifan lightly pressed down with his foot, and the Adamantium Shield shot forward like a rocket, flames bursting forth from it. The force propelled the shield ahead as Zheng Yifan stood firmly on it, his body moving swiftly.
He moved through Sun Jiangmian at a speed akin to that of a speedboat, gliding rapidly across the river. The creatures in the water looked up at Zheng Yifan before diving back down again.
They had encountered this situation many times before; their opponents often placed large ships on Sun Jiangmian. Initially, they would attack them.
But over time, no creatures bothered with them anymore. They couldn't eat them; they were too tough. Even if they managed to bite through, all they got was a mouthful of foam.
Fish have dignity too; why should they be forced to eat such things?
This allowed Zheng Yifan to cross the river more easily.
The Adamantium Shield had truly become versatile. What pleased Zheng Yifan even more was that those behind him made no noise; they simply watched him advance quietly.
In just ten minutes, he had crossed the river. Even a car couldn't match that speed; this was the application of Superpower. On the Frozen Surface, his speed could reach its maximum potential. Moreover, there were usually no traffic jams on Frozen Surface—plenty of space and no cars crowding him!
As Zheng Yifan stepped onto the ground on the other side, he immediately noticed the difference. The vegetation here was incredibly lush, and the plants on the ground had even begun to show signs of mutation. This meant that a significant number of Zombies had already perished here. There could be no other explanation.
Zheng Yifan recalled that before he left, there were quite a few Zombies preparing to attack the Hope Gathering Place.
But now, not a single one remained. Where had all those bizarre Fellows gone?
The answer was easy to guess. They had all been lured away by the people from Tiger Mouth Military Base, and some had been killed during the defense of the Hope Gathering Place.
The large number of Zombie deaths had resulted in vibrant greenery; the tender green shoots looked almost tempting enough to take a bite out of.
However, Zheng Yifan knew that was impossible. Most Mutated Plants in this apocalyptic world had their own defensive mechanisms, and the vast majority were toxic. A single bite could lead to a night of severe stomach troubles at best.
He stealthily moved forward; their Floating Ship was located about a hundred meters below. Zheng Yifan could easily reach it in two seconds, but he couldn't. The area around the Floating Ship was heavily guarded, with everyone alert and watchful. Zheng Yifan quickly realized that all of them had consumed Zombie Potion and were controlled Zombies themselves.
The merciless gazes from those individuals sent chills down Zheng Yifan's spine. Humanity in this Apocalyptic World was already facing a dire problem of survival, and now there were people researching Zombie Potion to turn humans into Zombies, significantly depleting humanity's potential for warfare.
In the short term, this might indeed create a temporary surge in strength.
But without warfare potential, humanity would have no future. Unlike in the Post-Apocalypse era, where short-sightedness could still yield some results.
Back then, humanity held an absolute advantage; even reckless actions were merely trivial and could not undermine humanity's dominance over Earth.
But now it was different. If they continued down this path, widespread human death would consume the last Vital Energy of their race.
Not to mention dealing with the remnants of the Chiyou Tribe from the First Vitality Era.
Even confronting Zombies was challenging enough. Moreover, there were wild beasts in the forest that were not easy Fellows to deal with either.
Zheng Yifan quietly lurked, moving slowly, afraid that any rustle would alert the enemy. He kept his body low, carefully navigating through the dark corners.
If Zhou Rui were here, he would surely excel at this task. But now it was only Zheng Yifan who could take on this responsibility because he needed lethality, he needed offensive power to wreak havoc among the enemy's Combatants and facilities.
Especially those Floating Ships. Initially, the Floating Ships they used were utterly ineffective. Yet for some reason, they had amassed so many Floating Ships, as if they were waiting for a chance to cross the river.
Zheng Yifan couldn't concern himself with such matters; he could only focus on destruction and combat. The enemies before him stood rigidly, utterly meticulous.
Zheng Yifan understood; they were all Zombies, having begun to lose all their senses, slowly awaiting death, their final moments of life still manipulated by others.
Their bodies resembled puppets on strings, completely beyond their control. However, Zheng Yifan couldn't engage them directly. Each Zombie Puppet was controlled by someone; if any machine signaled an alert, it would be evident that a Zombie Puppet had been eliminated, making it clear where the problem lay.
Zheng Yifan had to infiltrate secretly and unleash his ultimate move within the Floating Ship.
His ultimate move was Wildfire Spreading, but he wanted to try something new; however, Wildfire Spreading remained just that—Wildfire Spreading.
The energy used would be different this time. He planned to employ the Power of Faith to execute Wildfire Spreading. The weapon would also differ; the new Silver Spear was more imposing and powerful, containing the essence of countless years of cultivation in In Calamity.
Yue Yinping had not utilized it well because he had fallen in love. Zheng Yifan could wield it effectively because he bore the Fortune of humanity, akin to how In Calamity carried the Fortune of the Pangu Clan in television dramas.
Both were guardians of Fortune, striving for the same hope: that their people could survive better.
However, In Calamity was for every member of the Pangu Clan. Zheng Yifan fought for every civilian, every Survivor.
Infiltration was a meticulous task; Zheng Yifan had tried it before, but today he wanted to give it another shot.
His body hung halfway over the ship's hull as his hands sank into it as if it were tofu. The strength in his hands rivaled that of a powerful press; all the physical power of a Fifth-Level Esper surged forth—enough force to obliterate a warship.
However, Zheng Yifan clearly had no thoughts of destroying the battleship; he only needed to take down the Floating Ship in front of him.
The Floating Ship resembled a large wooden plank floating on the river. If one were to connect several of these planks together, it would form a bridge.
This was the simplest form of a Floating Ship. However, Zheng Yifan would not give them the chance to transform into Transformers again.
"Search!" Zheng Yifan leaped onto the ship, his eyes scanning the surroundings. He inwardly cursed at the situation.
There were surprisingly many people on the deck, or rather, Zombies. They were no longer human, yet they stood ready, a group of several hundred, staring at Zheng Yifan with their blood-red eyes.
They did not take the initiative to attack because they knew they were close to death. No one wanted to do anything after they died; they lay there quietly like machines, as if waiting to take one last breath. Unfortunately, their dreams would inevitably shatter because they no longer had lung function. They could not breathe at all.
"Do you need me to do something for you?" Zheng Yifan said calmly. He looked at each of them with pity; these were Survivors, the most precious assets in this apocalyptic world! Yet this Tiger Mouth Military Base had turned them into cannon fodder, sending them to perish alongside the people from Hope Gathering Place.
"I! We just want to die! Truly die! We don’t want to fight, we don’t want meaningless battles. Even if this fight ends, so will Tiger Mouth Military Base; there won’t be many left!" one of the Zombies said. His face was already beginning to rot. He was about to meet his end right there.
He was a jinx; even as a Zombie, he hadn’t fully evolved.
Or perhaps he had over-evolved. Originally, he might have become a Leader Zombie, but unfortunately, the Zombie Potion had caused him to develop abnormally, preventing him from gaining the abilities of a Leader Zombie, and thus he could only die sooner. (To be continued...)
