The man proudly stated his name, a testament to his life’s achievements. Out of the millions in the tribe, he had risen to become the chief's bodyguard, surviving into the Second Vitality Era. Many who were once stronger than him had perished—whether from the Chiyou Tribe, the Yellow Emperor Tribe, or countless other tribes—most had met their end. Only a small number of them remained alive, and he was one of them.
He was also among the first to escape the confinement of the Vitality Tower, breaking free from that nightmarish place.
Zheng Yifan stood before him like a chick, easily crushable. Now, he was ready to eliminate this Fellow.
It wasn't that he had planned this all along; it was because Zheng Yifan's superpower was undeniably formidable.
Their last meeting had been a light-hearted exchange, merely offering some advice to a junior from a bygone era.
But now it was different; he needed to eliminate someone who could potentially become a threat. Yet, his interest in this cat-and-mouse game remained unchanged.
Zheng Yifan was not one to surrender easily, so he fought back! He unleashed all his strength.
The Adamantium Shield erupted with gathered Vital Energy, propelling Zheng Yifan into the air.
It resembled a firework display of soaring monkeys from reality, shooting straight up into the sky. Below, people appeared no larger than fists, then peanuts.
The ground-bound assailant watched Zheng Yifan in the air as if mocking an ant challenging an elephant. Power surged from his left hand, and a vast expanse of plants resembling Pea Vines emerged from the ground, soaring into the sky with immense force, like arrows piercing through the high altitude.
A fierce gust accompanied the violent attack; Zheng Yifan struggled to find words to describe it. Perhaps only the most powerful superpowered individuals could wield such force.
He knew he had no chance of escape. Even if he returned to the Hope Gathering Place, death awaited him there.
There was no other hope left. Zheng Yifan gazed at the distant Hope Gathering Place. It had once been his most cherished location—a place where he poured all his strength. He couldn't bear to part with it.
He would never use the Time-Space Barrier to escape.
Because he didn't know if the robber had the ability to follow him into the real world. That was his hometown, and he didn't want to bring this demon king back there. The only thing he could do now was to die with some dignity. Or perhaps find one last glimmer of hope.
"Run for your life, buddy!" The robber displayed a joyful expression, looking at the empty Zheng Yifan, still so carefree.
There were many ways to attack an enemy from high above, but when facing the robber, all of them had become futile efforts. Zheng Yifan could only focus on dodging. He needed to evade the robber's attacks while trying to drift toward the Hope Gathering Place.
If he could reach the Ushumar Mountains, that would be true success. It had already been confirmed that many fierce beasts resided in the Ushumar Mountains. Those beasts were true powerhouses; even a Sixth Tier Superpowered Individual would struggle to fight them.
The strength of beasts in the First Vitality Era was completely different from that in the Second Vitality Era.
Only in the Second Vitality Era did truly formidable beasts emerge. These powerful creatures could absorb Vital Energy without restraint. They thrived on Vital Energy without any concerns.
Perhaps it was a mistake for humans to develop intelligence; only beasts could best utilize Superpower.
Who knows? Zheng Yifan didn’t ponder such things; he only knew that reaching the Ushumar Mountains would mean success.
"Search!" Numerous vines formed a sprawling network in midair.
Zheng Yifan could only make himself fly.
The Adamantium Shield in his hand had become a propeller, constantly propelling him forward. The empty arrows seemed intent on bringing him to his demise.
However, the weaknesses of the Superpowered Individual were also evident. He absolutely could not fight in the air, for the sky was his forbidden zone; without the earth and without plants, he was at his weakest. A strong physical constitution alone was useless. It was that formidable Superpower that formed the foundation for a Superpowered Individual's existence.
Zheng Yifan did not know what to do. He could only try his best to fly forward.
Yet ideals are beautiful, while reality is harsh. Just as Zheng Yifan attempted to take flight, the horde of Zombies on the ground began to stir.
They relentlessly attacked the Hope Gathering Place, and more flying Zombies gradually appeared in the sky.
However, these flying Zombies were different; they had just evolved. It was the Zombies' desire to soar that had given them wings, allowing them to ascend into the air.
Power?
What is power? Zheng Yifan felt confused, but the Zombies were clear about it; what they pursued was necessity.
What is needed becomes power, such as flying at this moment.
One by one, Zombies resembling green bean sprouts took to the sky and sensed Zheng Yifan's presence above.
He could no longer hide himself, like a massive lantern floating in midair. The Adamantium Shield was exerting all its strength to propel him forward, and Zheng Yifan had no energy left to conceal his figure.
From the ground, he appeared as a gigantic whirlpool of Vital Energy in the sky, with a powerful black current carrying an unknown figure above.
This was how Zheng Yifan was perceived by others at that moment.
Uncle Jie on the ground was clearly anxious. He knew that after flying in that direction for a while, he would see a mountain range—an untouched wilderness that he absolutely could not set foot in.
"Zheng! You’ve forced my hand!" Uncle Jie looked up at Zheng Yifan in the sky, his gaze not filled with the desire to eliminate him, but rather with admiration and agreement.
In a situation where escape was the only option against overwhelming power, surviving to gather strength for revenge was undoubtedly the best strategy.
Just like now, Zheng Yifan's retreat was not an act of cowardice; it was a wise choice for self-preservation.
"Zheng, witness the might of the First Vitality Era!" Uncle Jie said with a smile as he rolled up his sleeves. A seed fell to the ground and suddenly transformed into twisting vines that wrapped around his arms, forming a massive cannon aimed directly at Zheng Yifan.
"Let’s play a game of bird hunting!" Uncle Jie shouted fiercely, unleashing a strong Vital Energy Fluctuation as he truly tapped into the power of the Seventh Level.
How powerful was this force? By using Seventh Level Vital Energy, he could absorb all Vital Energy within a hundred meters, completely harnessing it for himself. The intense energy coalesced into a glowing sphere before condensing into the plant.
Gradually, a gigantic Shell emerged from this plant. This Shell represented the seed of the plant.
"Zheng! Give me something substantial!" Uncle Jie roared as he launched the Shell from his left hand.
Speed? It was nearly as fast as light itself.
That was a speed almost impossible for humans to evade. However, long before being locked onto, Zheng Yifan suddenly felt an overwhelming pressure in his chest, as if he were about to be torn apart. Then came Divine Intervention; Zheng Yifan shivered all over as the Adamantium Shield beneath him suddenly dropped ten meters. Below that was the Pea Vine, which shot out arrows and extended its tendrils in an attempt to ensnare Zheng Yifan.
With no way to escape, Zheng Yifan had no choice but to spin completely around, desperately trying to slice through the vines in front of him.
"Boom!" A resounding explosion echoed from below, and Zheng Yifan carefully looked down.
There was nothing—no signs of an attack, only the muzzle of Uncle Jie's left cannon still emitting wisps of blue smoke.
When an attack exceeds the speed of sound, the attack occurs first, followed by the sound. This is because light travels faster than sound; if the attack is faster than the sound, then the sound will lag behind.
Zheng Yifan sensed this kind of attack and swung upward, barely catching a glimpse of a distant black dot in the far-off sky. However, it was just a fleeting moment, and he could no longer see it.
That dot had already reached an incredibly distant place. Zheng Yifan even suspected it might have penetrated the atmosphere, reaching beyond the stars.
Looking back, he saw Uncle Jie giving him a thumbs-up, praising him briefly before preparing for another attack.
The gathering Vital Energy filled Zheng Yifan with dread. He could only try to elevate himself as much as possible.
But after several attempts, he found it impossible. Next, he tried to dodge in all directions, but as soon as he moved his body, he realized he couldn't evade at all; his speed couldn't keep up with light.
Now, all that remained was to abandon any hope of survival and seek that slim chance of life.
Directly below was a raging river. Perhaps due to the battle, the waters were no longer calm but tumultuous, crashing violently and drowning all hope.
Without hope for life, there was no sorrow in death.
Perhaps this was the story he had to tell.
Zheng Yifan had lost all hope of survival, yet he still charged downward for that last sliver of a chance, a mere 1% of hope.
Below him lay the river, and he sought to find a glimmer of life within its depths.
If he fell from here, Zheng Yifan would not die; even if the Adamantium Shield accelerated, he would still survive. However, lurking beneath were the beasts of the water, including the legendary Giant Turtle.
Just one bite! Just one bite could end Zheng Yifan's life.
"Ah!" A roar echoed behind him as flashes of light flickered; those were the arrows of vines. The further he descended, the thicker the vines became, creating more obstacles in his path.
If he paused for even a second, he would be struck down by Uncle Jie's attack.
Thus, Zheng Yifan dared not relax for even a moment. He poured all his strength into his descent, his speed increasing with each passing moment; he had to go faster and faster.
Suddenly, another loud sound erupted. Zheng Yifan knew Uncle Jie was attacking him again. Clearly, as long as he was still alive, it meant the attack had failed—he had once again narrowly escaped.
Sun Jiangmian, the deep blue Sun Jiangmian, was right before him. Then came a splash!
Whether he could survive now rested entirely on fate. (To be continued.)
