In the realm of beasts, outcomes of battles were often clear-cut; there were no complicated notions—only straightforward combat where victory and defeat hinged on a moment's decision.
Just like now, as the passageway crumbled around him, the creature charged directly at Zheng Yifan.
The Hive's interior had been reinforced by Chiyou, making it difficult for Zheng Yifan's position to be revealed. However, once outside the Hive, the Treasure Earthworm could sense Zheng Yifan's presence.
"Damn it!" he cursed under his breath. He had no choice but to keep moving forward; he wasn't an earthworm and couldn't carve out his own path. He had to continue along the tunnel while the Treasure Earthworm closed in rapidly behind him.
In mere seconds, it was right on his tail. Even though the tunnel walls had been reinforced before, they were merely meant to prevent collapse and offered no protection against the Treasure Earthworm. Now, Zheng Yifan faced imminent danger.
With a thunderous crash, the wall was completely smashed open by the Treasure Earthworm, revealing its gaping maw.
Zheng Yifan's heart raced. Instinctively, he thrust his Silver Spear toward the approaching Treasure Earthworm.
He didn't know when another one had appeared; however, encountering an additional worm in an earthworm's lair was hardly unusual. There was no time for second-guessing; if that big Fellow didn’t pursue him, this one had to be dealt with immediately.
Zheng Yifan wasn't afraid of provoking that larger Fellow; once he escaped underground, he would be free as fish leaping in the sea and birds soaring high in the sky.
Unfortunately, he was still underground, where the territory of the Treasure Earthworm lay. The approaching massive mouth of Zheng Yifan could only be pierced by the Silver Spear—pierced with great force.
All the Power of Faith could only be used on himself and could not be released. Even when enhanced, there were layers of barriers. The earth seemed to embody great virtue, but in reality, it obstructed the Power of Faith. He could not use his Power of Faith as he did outside; all he had to rely on were the Silver Spear and Adamantium Shield—his two most basic weapons.
The strength of the Treasure Earthworm's Intoxication was astonishing, comparable to that of a python. It aimed to swallow Zheng Yifan whole.
Would Zheng Yifan give it that opportunity?
The answer was no.
Faced with the clearly unevolved intellect of the Treasure Earthworm, Zheng Yifan naturally unleashed his strongest attack. The Eidman Alloy Shield shot out with all the Power of Faith he could muster. The force seemed weak but was not insignificant; it was merely a throw of the Adamantium Shield.
To the Treasure Earthworm, that was as easy as eating a peanut—an excellent appetizer.
In its eyes, Zheng Yifan was the main course; everything else was fair game. It was this insatiable appetite that earned the Treasure Earthworm its name.
The Silver Spear was fiercely deployed. Zheng Yifan now had only this weapon in hand; he had invested the Adamantium Shield for future use. Next, he needed to strike at the Treasure Earthworm from within.
The soft and pliable tissue of the worm's skin was undoubtedly a formidable barrier. Zheng Yifan could guarantee that the Adamantium Shield would not inflict any harm; blunt force attacks would not deal significant damage to the Treasure Earthworm.
Thus, he could only rely on a coordinated internal and external assault.
There was only one chance for Zheng Yifan—if this move did not inflict sufficient injury, there would be no second attempt, and the Treasure Earthworm would not cooperate again.
With both hands gripping the Silver Spear, he awaited the approach of the Treasure Earthworm. Even at Fifth Level, its combat power was already formidable. As it extended its Tentacles toward Zheng Yifan, each Tentacle acted like a spear, thrusting forward with tremendous force aimed directly at him.
The power was overwhelming and unyielding. Zheng Yifan could only brace himself because as the massive mouth prepared to strike him, every cell in his body pulsed with energy, readying for his most powerful blow. There was no time to evade these trivial attacks.
Or perhaps it was unrelated to victory or defeat. Even if injured, one must strike decisively.
His body transformed into a spinning top, leaping instantly to the end of the passage, the Silver Spear aimed directly at the Treasure Earthworm across from him. He thrust downward with force.
With that single thrust, Zheng Yifan exerted all his strength. Within the Treasure Earthworm, invisible to the naked eye, the Adamantium Shield stirred slightly before beginning to spin rapidly.
If it were to close its massive jaws, the Treasure Earthworm's properties would completely sever the control Zheng Yifan had over both the Adamantium Shield and himself; even if he wanted to regain control, he would have no chance.
Only now, with all preparations perfectly in place, did the Treasure Earthworm hope to devour Zheng Yifan, its large head lifting upward.
At that moment, it was Zheng Yifan's time to attack.
The Silver Spear in his hand spun with a silvery glow, striking against the surface of the Treasure Earthworm like a piercing drill.
The tough skin rippled with wave-like folds as it continued to rotate, yet the force was still spreading outward.
This had long been anticipated by Zheng Yifan. With a thought, the Adamantium Shield quickly moved toward the direction of the Silver Spear in reverse. The power erupted completely.
