The roar never ceased, a continuous release from Zheng Yifan's Avatar of the Believers that summoned the Zombies. The undead had been fully roused, as if the entire city had been activated by Zheng Yifan, like a lit powder keg. The Zombies grew unusually agitated, radiating a terrifying aura throughout Deep City.
Zheng Yifan's arrival seemed to attract the attention of death itself; the most terrifying era for Deep City was about to begin. In the corners of the city, hidden in obscure places, the Survivors would soon face their most challenging times.
The arrival of outsiders was destined to bring change to Deep City. Zheng Yifan was like a ticking time bomb, igniting chaos wherever he went.
However, he was not the only outsider; a frail girl had quietly slipped into Deep City after evading others.
She was An Xiaolu, the adorable girl who had decided to explore this den of danger instead of hiding away with Han Rui and the others.
Behind those defensive installations, they were constantly retreating, gradually whittling down the Zombies.
Undeniably, it was the simplest and most effective method; Zombies posed little threat to Survivors. If anything, there were hardly any casualties at all.
Yet such battles were merely slow executions of Zombies—there were no hard fights or real confrontations. When faced with formidable Zombies, they would immediately retreat and seek another breakthrough point to continue attracting the undead, carefully reducing their numbers.
Although An Xiaolu yearned for a peaceful life, she could not simply wait for victory to come to her.
Quietly entering Deep City, she wished to save some Survivors like Zheng Yifan and hoped to accomplish things even he could not. In her eyes, Zheng Yifan was merely a leader of a small team, not the powerful leader of a Gathering Place.
Walking stealthily down the street, it seemed as if the Zombies had completely vanished; those monsters were nowhere to be seen. There were no Zombies lurking in the alleys either. Following in Zheng Yifan's wake always felt safe; after all, so many Avatars of the Believers were clearing out the Zombies. More importantly, the Zombies had begun actively intercepting Zheng Yifan's Avatars. Tens of thousands of Avatars could take down hundreds of thousands of Zombies, especially with constant resummoning. Zheng Yifan faced little pressure while exterminating Zombies; he could potentially eliminate millions within a month in Deep City—of course, that was under ideal conditions, having subconsciously overlooked those high-level Zombies above Third Stage.
An Xiaolu tiptoed quietly through the streets and gradually ventured into an alley. She did not want to follow in Zheng Yifan's footsteps; she rebelled like a wildcat. Her skills were far beyond what she initially displayed as a Fourth-Stage Esper. Treating her as an ordinary person would be impossible; her physical abilities as a Superpowered Individual had been enhanced multiple times. Moreover, her Superpower primarily unleashed its full potential during close combat.
When she left the path opened by Zheng Yifan, she truly felt the terror of the world, the horror of the apocalypse.
Deep City was undoubtedly one of the most terrifying places in this post-apocalyptic world, where billions of Zombies had given rise to countless possibilities.
What they encountered was certainly one of the most horrifying kinds. The city had transformed into something else entirely; the empty anomalies represented more powerful Zombies or mutations that had already appeared within the city.
An Xiaolu, like a cat, skillfully avoided Zheng Yifan's route, lightly leaping between towering buildings. Her toes barely touched the walls, causing large cracks to form. The explosive force allowed her to move faster, much quicker than Zheng Yifan.
Zheng Yifan needed to constantly clear out Zombies as he advanced. He relied on his formidable strength to confuse and mislead, charging into the chaos.
Zheng Yifan possessed the ability to directly evade Zombies and rush in. However, he had to clear those Zombies and gather as much information about them as possible.
In contrast, An Xiaolu could charge straight ahead, directly entering the depths of Deep City. That was Zheng Yifan's destination.
It was also An Xiaolu's destination. As she dashed between buildings, most of the Zombies had caught sight of her, yet for some reason, they did not pursue her. Perhaps it was because Zheng Yifan was continuously attracting their attention; An Xiaolu managed to successfully enter the city.
Now, she found herself on an empty street, devoid of even a single Zombie. She had no idea where they might be hiding. Right in front of her stood a massive supermarket: Starlight Supermarket, the largest chain supermarket in the post-apocalyptic world. Every city had one, but this particular one was exceptionally enormous.
The flagship store of Starlight Supermarket in this post-apocalyptic setting was a place An Xiaolu had always wanted to visit for shopping. However, in reality, while other locations of Starlight Supermarket offered reasonable prices, this flagship store could be considered one of the most luxurious stores in the world. Here, only the top brands from around the globe were sold. Elites from various industries would travel great distances to spend their wealth just to acquire their coveted items; many limited editions were first released here. The supermarket's powerful ability to attract customers further boosted nearby businesses.
In such a bustling center of the city, it was astonishing that no Zombies appeared as An Xiaolu effortlessly entered Starlight Supermarket.
The entrance featured pure golden doors; although made from synthetic materials that weren't as expensive as gold, they still held significant value. The cost of these doors alone required millions in funds. Now, this beautiful entrance had become an obstacle; in this post-apocalyptic world, what used to be electronically controlled doors had now turned into purely manual ones.
Without sufficient strength, trying to enter the Starlight Supermarket was nothing but a pipe dream.
Fortunately, An Xiaolu possessed extraordinary power. With her hands pressed against the massive door, every muscle in her body tensed as an overwhelming surge of strength erupted within her.
The combination of her formidable strength and the explosive force generated by her superpower caused the ground to tremble.
Slowly, the door creaked open, revealing before her the luxurious mall of the Post-Apocalypse, which also served as the largest Survivor Base. Here, a vast population lived comfortably, supported by a significant demographic and numerous explorers.
They emerged from the Sewers, reaching various locations to gather supplies; the city had been thoroughly researched by them.
They were the Survivors of Deep City. (To be continued)
