How long does it take to create a factory? Before the apocalypse, others would have reported a timeline of several months.
However, dismantling a factory might only take less than half an hour. Just like now, Zheng Yifan was already standing at the entrance, looking at the equipment in the Storage Space, feeling immensely happy.
Precision represented the accuracy of industry, signifying the production of more sophisticated machinery and instruments. The equipment in Zheng Yifan's Storage Space belonged to the highest tier of Precision in the Apocalyptic World, capable of serving as the industrial mother hen in the real world, initiating the creation of even higher Precision equipment and ushering in a new era.
Satisfied, he exited the factory after clearing out all the manufactured samples and experimental materials from several warehouses, leaving only the solitary main building.
It resembled a gigantic Solar Photovoltaic Panel; from the outside, it was evident that this was the main part of the laboratory. The front door was an entire Electronic Door that required multiple verifications to enter. Now, all those systems had failed, and he could only gain access through brute force.
He needed to ensure that while breaking down the main door, he wouldn’t severely damage the laboratory. If vibrations caused any equipment inside to break or triggered a Zombie riot, resulting in damage to essential data and equipment, Zheng Yifan would be devastated.
Especially concerning the Clean Room; if it were damaged, it would be a significant problem. The Clean Room was at the very center of the laboratory, representing all of Zheng Yifan's wealth contained within. How could he not strive to protect this equipment?
Summoning his Silver Spear, he gently touched the main door and could clearly feel that all equipment had completely lost functionality. This was normal; two years had passed since the apocalypse began, and all backup power sources had failed. The laboratory relied on Electricity generated by Power Plants. Even though there was still some Solar Energy available for use, it wasn’t connected to the main door but rather to some internal machines.
The firearms from Deep City could still operate on Electricity, which remained under human control. In other words, Deep City resembled a temple; Zheng Yifan didn’t know what changes had brought about this situation but felt compelled to explore everything.
The ultimate fate of an omniscient being is death; if one can foresee everything, what meaning does life hold?
The Silver Spear gently drilled into the door. The hard tip ensured that power was applied slowly and steadily. No matter how tough the material of the door was, it couldn’t compare to the Silver Spear. Moreover, it pierced through with precision; he used his strength skillfully as tiny iron shavings fell away. Zheng Yifan wasn’t in a hurry; things needed to unfold gradually; they couldn’t be rushed. He spent an entire time focused on opening the door. He didn’t know where the windows upstairs were located but remained determined to break through without thinking about other places—or allowing himself to think about them.
Because he genuinely feared damaging something important.
The main door, designed for entry and exit, posed no issues at all. At the very least, its destruction wouldn't damage any equipment.
As night fell over the land, Zheng Yifan finally managed to create a large hole, through which he could see inside. The place was brightly lit, with the lighting system functioning perfectly. The floor was even spotless, suggesting there was a dedicated cleaning system in place.
There were no signs of zombies; everything appeared clean and orderly.
Indeed, the main door was not connected to the power supply system inside; it was independent. Perhaps they believed in the power supply of the city, while the laboratory's power supply might just be a twisted sense of humor from those scientists. Who knew? Regardless, the solar-powered lights had been on continuously for two years without ever turning off.
These lights had been operational since the post-apocalypse. Their durability spoke volumes about their quality.
With a hole made, how far could a door be? Through the penetrated entrance, he found where the locks were located and identified the positions of twelve metal pillars. The next step would likely involve an all-nighter of work. Perhaps he could simply destroy the lock mechanism and push open the door; strength was something Zheng Yifan had in abundance, and with his Silver Spear, he wasn't worried about causing damage.
Everything fell into place. Two hours later, Zheng Yifan gently opened the door to find twelve twisted metal pillars lying on the ground.
As he walked down the corridor, Zheng Yifan noticed cleaning robots on the floor. They resembled trash bins and would activate to clean up after him a few minutes after he passed by. In a post-apocalyptic scenario, they would even assess whether anyone was in the corridor before activating their cleaning function.
However, Zheng Yifan was alone in the corridor, prompting an early activation of their cleaning mechanism.
Ahead lay an elevator shaft; it was still operational and lit up. Whether the equipment inside functioned properly remained uncertain. After pressing the elevator button and confirming that it could still operate stably, Zheng Yifan began clearing out items on the first floor. This area contained some laboratory staff members' belongings as well as ordinary storage rooms. Each room held no zombies, and he had no idea where they had gone. Nevertheless, he wouldn't overlook even a scrap of paper; anything could prove useful. The solar photovoltaic power station was essential for Zheng Yifan's energy needs, and he refused to let himself fall short in that regard.
There was an abundance of data resembling a model library; there was even a real library in a massive room on the first floor. The number of books was unknown, and there were dozens of computers as well—he had no idea if they would all be usable. Regardless, Zheng Yifan wasted no time in taking even the tables.
However, the host was not present here; he believed there must be a supercomputer in the laboratory running all these programs.
This also meant that Zheng Yifan needed a computer to decipher a series of verification procedures from the Supercomputer.
Only after that could he extract everything from the Supercomputer.
Otherwise, all documents would inevitably be sealed.
After confirming that the first floor held no value, Zheng Yifan gently stepped into the elevator.
However, what Zheng Yifan did in the elevator was something most people would never think of. First, he opened the escape hatch above his head, then observed the elevator shaft. After that, he drilled a hole into the ground to check if there was an underground laboratory below.
It turned out that Zheng Yifan's seemingly unnecessary actions led to a new discovery. One meter behind the elevator, there was an unknown depth of space. Zheng Yifan realized that the elevator could actually move backward and access this underground area. As for how to get in, it remained a mystery; all he knew was that there was indeed a laboratory beneath!
In Deep City, this ordinary laboratory was shrouded in a veil of mystery. (To be continued)
