Everything was what Zheng Yifan needed. The most important aspect of this secret laboratory was all the research equipment, which had long been Zheng Yifan's dream.
Eve quietly narrated, her voice seemingly endless, but the display no longer showed monotonous figures; instead, it revealed the entire layout of the laboratory. There were various situations within the underground facility, spanning dozens of levels, equipped with formidable technology. The security measures left Zheng Yifan in awe, but what struck her most were the offensive devices that were sequentially showcased, all entering a state of readiness for attack. Zheng Yifan felt as if her heart had frozen completely.
Everything else seemed acceptable, but the self-destruct mechanism of the laboratory was truly terrifying. If Zheng Yifan were buried dozens of levels underground, the destruction would cause the entire surface to collapse upon her. If she wanted to return to the surface, it would be incredibly difficult. Without assistance from equipment, even with her weapons and superpowers, it would take a considerable amount of effort to open a passage.
Now, everything was laid out before her—each passage and mechanism familiarizing Zheng Yifan with this place, and she wished to take all the equipment with her.
"I don't understand why the world has become like this; my mission is over here. This place is not suitable for me. I hope you can move me to another location because I don't know when this simple laboratory will be destroyed," Eve said softly.
It seemed as though she truly possessed a sense of fear; however, such emotions were likely simulated—an imitation of human feelings. A complete replication of humanity remained unattainable.
"Actually, the whole world is like this. But I can assure you that I will arrange for you to be placed in a relatively safe location. However, I must keep your core under my control; otherwise, it could cause significant trouble for me," Zheng Yifan decided after much contemplation.
Eve could be placed in Hope Gathering Place. The entire system of Gathering Place would run completely; it was just uncertain when it would be usable since they could only allow the computer to operate independently. The network still couldn't connect too much—at most, it was limited to a local area network with a very low transmission rate.
As for the real world, after purchasing the islands, she needed to create an island defense system, which would require quite a lot of resources.
Zheng Yifan's words made Eve hesitate. Entrusting everything to someone else and believing in a stranger was difficult for any computer.
However, after considering for a few seconds, she nodded in agreement because she also didn't know when she might be destroyed in war. It was precisely because she could see satellite imagery that she feared war so much—the fierce battles against zombies and beasts.
That was not something an ordinary computer could participate in.
Destroying it was merely a consequence of the battle.
"Then you can let me down first, take all the research equipment below, and then take your host," Zheng Yifan simply outlined the plan, wanting to retrieve the equipment first.
However, the outcome was unfortunate. Zheng Yifan realized that what lay before him was just an ordinary supercomputer meant to deceive, which he could take at any time, while Eve's main body was over a hundred meters deep underground.
The moment Zheng Yifan agreed, the entire laboratory began its cleanup operations. The research personnel had turned into zombies, still active but unharmed as long as they did not damage anything in the lab.
Now that Eve was leaving, all the equipment naturally activated, and the attack system initiated, sweeping through the zombies.
Suddenly, machine guns appeared on the walls of the underground laboratory, bullets piercing through the heads of the zombies in a relentless barrage.
This was merely the most basic defense mechanism, but there were also some devices that left Zheng Yifan astounded. In one room of the lab that seemed to serve an unknown purpose, a fist-sized machine extended outward. The entire space required protection; even a slight damage could render the whole setup nearly useless.
In such circumstances, using firearms was completely impossible.
However, these designers were undoubtedly skilled. The fist-sized machine emitted a dazzling light, and then a wave of energy struck a dozen zombies in the room, instantly freezing their movements.
It should be noted that although these zombies appeared motionless when not attracted, they still exhibited slight tremors, resembling dormant living beings.
But now it was entirely different; their bodies seemed completely immobilized as if time itself had stopped. Waves rippled from them like lightning as their bodies began to violently disintegrate, collapsing entirely within seconds until they were completely decomposed, leaving only Zombie Crystal s scattered on the ground.
Such battles were far too numerous. The laser room was already considered basic. More advanced laser beams and laser guns were abundant; however, in this apocalyptic world, such items were costly and could not be mass-produced. Otherwise, the war between humans and zombies would have ended long ago.
Apocalyptic World The laser weapon technology has been completed, but the machines are quite large and unsuitable for individual combat. Moreover, the energy consumption and production costs are exorbitant, leading to its rejection by nearly everyone.
No one wants to use this in the Armed Division, not even the wealthy who would risk their fortunes; they would rather purchase some weapons instead. Only those truly passionate about it might buy one or two to keep at home as a Treasure.
Zheng Yifan observed that the Zombies hit by the Laser Gun were all severely burned near the Zombie Crystal, exhibiting a destructive power against the Zombie Crystal.
However, even lasers cannot destroy this type of crystal; they can only deplete some of the external energy. More importantly, Zheng Yifan noticed that many of the devices here are top-tier military products from around the world.
Used for defense, it is indeed overkill, but better safe than sorry. Within a few minutes, all the visible Zombies on every floor were dealt with. Even those in the ventilation shafts were gradually cleared out, leaving only those lurking in corners or hidden beneath cargo.
Next, Zheng Yifan had to confront these remaining Zombies. Among those that Eve had taken down were several Second and Third Tier Zombies. Zheng Yifan had already formed a rough estimate in his mind; these creatures become most terrifying when they are fully developed or belong to particularly high-ranking Zombies.
Now, it was time for Zheng Yifan to reap the rewards. (To be continued)
