What is a Bullet Curtain? What is a Bullet Storm? They had only seen such things in games or on television, and even those security personnel with a mercenary background had never imagined that the weapons in their hands could unleash such terrifying attacks. A torrent of bullets flooded the area, and it was evident that the ground ahead seemed to be completely torn apart. The vehicles targeted by the bullets resembled scrap metal, with dazzling sparks erupting into the air, leaving only shattered pieces of iron on the ground.
"Boom!" With the explosion of the first vehicle, it felt as if the entire world had been turned upside down. The bus behind it roared, and a series of explosions shook the earth. Even the Zombies fell to the ground, unable to rise again. The wild force of the explosions was heart-stopping, but for those professional Mercenaries, it was just another day. No matter how massive the explosions were, they had experienced worse; however, they had never encountered such extensive use of Machine Guns before. Even in previous large-scale wars, they had only used standard firearms—nothing compared to the overwhelming power of the weapons they wielded now. In earlier times, such firearms would have been banned due to their lethality; the destructive capability of a Machine Gun far surpassed that of a Missile, resulting in far more casualties than ordinary bombs, which merely caused shrapnel explosions—even Cloud Bombs could only kill so many.
Now they faced over a million opponents, ready to indulge in their desires.
The Zombies sprawled on the ground slowly approached from afar. Although the explosions had inflicted significant damage and killed many Zombies, the scent of blood grew stronger as more Zombies advanced.
Zheng Yifan stood on a platform, itching to join in on the action himself. The thrill of using Machine Guns to sweep through First-Level Zombies was exhilarating. Especially since these Zombies lacked ranged attack capabilities, it felt more satisfying than playing any game. The prepared Mercenaries turned security personnel were wide-eyed with excitement.
Who in their lifetime has experienced such a feeling? Bloodshed and slaughter accompanied their earlier years, but now they faced an even more exhilarating battle.
Previously, facing hundreds of opponents felt like a lot; thousands were considered large-scale armed groups. But what about millions? That number equaled the total standing army of most countries—such a vast number of Combatants could cripple the economic development of some impoverished nations.
They also lacked the qualifications to equip armed personnel on such a large scale.
The Zombies across from them were perhaps the best-armed personnel imaginable. Despite lacking firearms, if they had faced such opponents in past battles, they would have been troubled; any injury could lead to death. Close combat with Zombies was absolutely forbidden. There was no unified command; what they faced now was different. In fact, in the video that Ladidia and others were watching, Zombies exhibited organization and discipline. They had a tight structure that allowed them to engage in battle quickly and form basic formations.
Despite lacking ranged weapons, those Zombies in the video wielded an array of long-range weaponry that made these approaching Zombies look like trash—utterly inferior.
They would face even more challenges ahead.
However, what Zheng Yifan needed was an initial buffer period to occupy some territory while the country recovered and even clear out a war buffer zone. During the second outbreak of mutations when all Zombies surged forth, he wanted to ensure he had a safe haven. This would mark the beginning of Earth's descent into an Apocalyptic World.
There was too much to face at that time.
The return of two worlds. Zheng Yifan didn’t know what the reunion would bring; he only knew that the battle now was exhilarating.
Zombies had already entered a range of one thousand meters. All the Machine Gunners were ready, and the snipers were prepared as well. They were responsible for dealing with some of the peculiar Zombies in the horde or the more robust ones.
Many Zombies had been muscle-bound men before their mutation, possessing exceptional physical qualities. After becoming Zombies, they remained the strongest; this type of Zombie was bound to level up in the future. It was better to eliminate them now.
Moreover, those snipers attacking within the Zombie horde were essentially training; only the Machine Gunners at the front represented the main source of lethality.
“Prepare to fire! Everyone adjust your parameters—wind speed, air humidity. The battle is about to begin. The logistics team, prepare to supply ammunition; the ammo truck is mobilizing. Start replenishing ammunition now.” In the command center, a Young Commander was methodically directing the battle.
He spoke calmly, but one could see from his forehead that he was under immense pressure; sweat had nearly soaked through his clothes, and not a single piece of clothing was clean.
Sweat streamed down his face like a stream.
This was his first time participating in such a battle. During previous simulated wars, he had faced various enemies, including Zombies during his training as a student, because there had been panic in earlier encounters.
However, he never expected to encounter real Zombies so soon and face them directly.
He didn’t know what kind of miraculous powers the Zombies possessed; he only knew that in simulated combat, Zombies were among the most difficult enemies to deal with. Their statistics were incredibly exaggerated. Although ordinary people understood how to crawl and dodge bullets, they were still human. It was normal for a single shot to tear off half a body, and it was even more common for several bullets to completely shred a person into pieces.
But Zombies were different. Their bodies had been enhanced; even if you penetrated their bodies, it wouldn’t matter. The soft tissues might soften, but essential structures had been reinforced. When attacking, they could also sense the smell of blood and charge forward.
The speed was already more than twice that of a human. He didn't know how long the burst would last, but he understood that the upcoming battle would be extremely challenging.
The warriors in front felt their hearts racing. Through their scopes, they could see the peanut-sized Zombies walking ahead. That was enough to take aim, yet they had to wait—wait for the command. The logistics team was currently delivering ammunition; the first batch had long been prepared, with each person allocated one hundred thousand rounds. It seemed like a lot, but in reality, it wouldn't last long.
There were too many Zombies, forcing them to fire continuously, which would also cause significant damage to their firearms.
Fortunately, thanks to Zheng Yifan, the weapons they brought were all specially made, utilizing the latest Apocalyptic Technology. These metals could not be produced in the real world; they had high stability, could withstand high temperatures, and dissipated heat rapidly.
Such firearms were expensive, yet they remained prevalent in the troops because they were part of the war reserves. The price of ten Machine Guns equaled that of a tank, and these Machine Guns were essential.
In battle, they were kings of the battlefield; even slightly inferior tanks could be pierced by specialized ammunition. (To be continued...)
