The ground was devoid of blood, replaced instead by green Zombie Fluid, a testament to the countless Zombies that had turned into this viscous substance, lingering long after the battle. This was the clearest evidence of the war that had ravaged this land.
The sheer number of Zombies was astonishing, far beyond what they had encountered in previous conflicts. They had faced large hordes before, but now the scale was unprecedented.
These were not just Zombies from one or two cities; they were Low-Level Zombies from many urban areas. They could not comprehend why these Zombies had left their homes to embark on such a distant expedition.
Only Zheng Yifan might understand that those Zombies by the sea had begun to abandon the Low-Level ones, as they were deemed useless. Their goal was to disperse and open up new sources of troops from the north.
They needed to continuously replenish their ranks and engage in battles against Sea Beasts. Ordinary Zombies lacked the intelligence for such strategies, but the colossal ones by the coast possessed this capability. Their intellect had reached levels comparable to ordinary humans, perhaps even exceeding it, with the only significant difference being their memories and knowledge.
Their minds were not burdened with extensive memories or knowledge; they could only rely on their experiences for judgment.
They realized they no longer had any Zombies left, nor Advanced Zombies to cultivate. Their only option was to devour and conquer other territories, killing any living beings they encountered and assimilating other Zombie groups to increase their numbers of Advanced Zombies.
Only Second Tier and above Zombies would truly engage in warfare. They understood that under these circumstances, their Advanced Zombies would multiply, making the conflict with Sea Beasts less daunting.
After all, they were the most well-nourished Zombies. To enjoy the spoils from Sea Beasts, they had to pay a hefty price—namely, an unending cycle of battle.
The ocean's expanse was several times larger than that of land. Its layers of life were diverse, with an overwhelming number of natural creatures—Sea Beasts—so numerous that even Zombies could not compete. However, those monsters were unable to come ashore.
Zheng Yifan knew this but chose not to concern himself with it. He only needed to defend his small patch of land. The war between Zombies and Sea Beasts was beneficial for him; as long as Sea Beasts occupied their attention, the truly formidable Zombies would not come looking for trouble. He still feared powerful Zombies, especially if a Solar Zombie King were to approach; it would be more than he could handle for the entire Hope Gathering Place.
At that moment, a convoy gradually came into view. Since Zheng Yifan had initiated the Superpowered Weapon Project, tangible results were beginning to emerge. The number of combat-ready vehicles being produced was significant.
The Hope Gathering Place merely modified existing vehicles; the Submachine Guns mounted on them were remnants from the apocalypse. The vehicles had slots where they simply needed to install stockpiled Machine Guns.
Now, ordinary firearms can be used, allowing many vehicles that previously had no weapons to fire.
It's just like those vehicles from the Guard Camp, but now they are equipped with weaponry.
More importantly, many ordinary vehicles are undergoing rapid modifications; the Explorer Alliance is far from useless. Many of them are brave fighters, and now with this opportunity to take advantage of firearms provided by the Gathering Place, all they need to do is rent a vehicle and go harvest zombies.
Aren't they willing? Even a woman can handle this task; just pull the trigger and take down zombies, collecting Zombie Crystal s to bring back for a hefty profit.
As long as they ensure their accuracy, that's all that matters. Bullets cost money, and if they recklessly shoot without care, the excessive bullet consumption would be a loss. The majority still prefer close-combat firearms, making it easier to collect loot after battles. Only equipping a machine gun on the vehicle for critical moments while using submachine guns to shoot at zombies almost point-blank allows them to break through encirclements.
They have long been familiar with this strategy since the days of cold weapon warfare, effectively dealing with zombies without fail.
Even without Firearm Espers, they can manage just fine; moreover, now.
Those larger Explorer Alliance teams have organized into even more formidable squads, conducting large-scale zombie slaughter operations.
Their goal is to fight continuously in the field, supported by specialized Supply Teams ensuring their ammunition is plentiful.
Such teams harvest at an even faster rate over a wider area; their substantial profits allow them to focus on Advanced Zombies. Second and Third Tier Zombies are often their favorite hunting targets, easily taken down with large-caliber bullets. Superpowered Individuals can restrain them, while stronger Superpowered Individuals form teams to extinguish threats posed by Fourth-Stage Zombies.
As for Fifth-Stage Zombies? That's a joke; they don't provoke those. Upon encountering one, they seek immediate assistance, naturally relying on the strong within the Gathering Place to resolve the issue. Moreover, now that electricity has been restored, it's not just ordinary power restoration; more importantly, their communication equipment is operational again. The most direct example is the Satellite Phone, which can now be used within range.
As for the company operating these Satellite Phones? It's officially Hope Gathering Place. Scientists have long occupied numerous satellites for their convenience.
Previously, they relied on overwhelming numbers of zombies to break through barriers. But now, with the rules dispersed, they have new means; within a matter of moments, all Satellite Phones can communicate again.
The main reason is that the Gathering Place already has a Supercomputer, and some scientists there used to control Private Satellites. Now that the Boss is gone, they have access to the Cipher Channel and can use it freely.
They are reveling in all of this, inevitably stirring up a bloody storm on the plains.
The Siege is collapsing without a fight; although the Zombies continue to gather and charge toward the Hope Gathering Place, in reality, they are being pushed back and are retreating in disarray.
But where is our protagonist now?
He is soaring high above the river, gliding between the azure skies, looking down at the scenery of the river and the ongoing battle.
It’s a clash where one side is ferocious while the other flees in panic.
An Old Turtle is being battered by a shadow, darting around chaotically. Occasionally it dives deep into the river, at which point the figure hesitates to attack; he dares not engage with the Old Turtle in its domain. Yet somehow, on the Sun Jiangmian, that Old Turtle finds itself unable to hold its ground against a Fellow it should have been able to match.
Zheng Yifan remembers that infuriating figure—the adorable uncle.
To be continued.
