Outside the defenses of the Seven Legion, beyond the fortified walls, two individuals were attacking what was once a military Restricted Area.
Their combat prowess was formidable; just the two of them instilled fear in the hearts of the thousands within the Seven Legion. Their destructive power was terrifying, and even missiles could not affect their assault, leaving only ordinary soldiers to risk their lives. Now, these two ruthless fellows had appeared outside.
It would be a lie to say they were not afraid. Zheng Yifan and Wang Qi were both outside, but they faced the enemy in different ways. Zheng Yifan remained calm and collected, confident in his ability to eliminate those useless foes. Wang Qi, on the other hand, was merely an ordinary person who had just become a Superpowered Individual. He did not possess combat Superpowers; he could only create some things to ensure his own safety.
Safety was his primary concern. Outside the main gate stood a peculiar structure, which was actually located underground. Above it were a series of devices resembling mechanical arms, many of which were provided by Zheng Yifan: scopes, machine guns, and even missile launchers.
Wang Qi utilized all these tools while hiding in an underground fortress, feeling quite secure. The weapons on the surface were entirely under his control; from below, he operated them using a laptop-like screen and a game controller.
These devices had been modified by his Superpower to function as simply as a game. He merely needed to eliminate those enemies as if he were playing a game.
It felt like an ordinary defense game where he was the soldier defending the fortress while enemies charged at him relentlessly. Everything was so simple, reminiscent of a crude game he played years ago called Beachhead Landing.
Wang Qi treated it like a game, while Zheng Yifan was different. He stood above with an RPG shoulder-mounted rocket launcher, constantly aiming and waiting for the Seven Legion personnel to appear. A flying device hovered in midair, serving as surveillance equipment under Wang Qi's control, continuously monitoring the enemy.
They no longer engaged in aerial killing primarily because that device had a limited ammunition capacity and could not sustain fire for long without resupplying; otherwise, it could not remain airborne.
Now it was different; so much ammunition had been hidden underground by Wang Qi. An automatic supply system ensured that he only needed to pull the trigger repeatedly.
The shooting parameters were calculated by a computer and automatically adjusted. He only needed to pull the trigger; everything else was taken care of—this was the advantage of high technology.
"Get lost, you two Mudbugs! We at the Seven Legion do not enjoy slaughtering ordinary citizens, but if you continue to be so ungrateful, don't blame us for being merciless and taking you down," a coarse voice suddenly echoed from within. It was disgusting and repulsive.
Zheng Yifan felt as if a foul fly had landed on his face—he wanted to swat it away but found it hard to ignore its presence.
"You two are no match for me, so stop boasting. Come out and let us finish you off, or you can take the easy way out and end it yourself. The rest of you, lie down and surrender," Zheng Yifan shouted loudly.
His voice was so loud that it could be heard even hundreds of meters away.
Instantly, the people inside turned pale. This was truly outrageous; was there really such a monstrous being? Is this even human? Just because I can't defeat you, I should kill myself? I'm not that foolish.
He let out a disdainful sigh. "You are just Ordinary Civilians. We didn't want to use heavy weaponry, but since you forced my hand, don't blame me." The man seemed to shrug and quietly attempted to leave.
Suddenly, Wang Qi shouted at the top of his lungs, "Others, those ordinary people—did you order them to be slaughtered by Missile?"
Wang Qi's eyes were red as he spoke, his voice choked with emotion.
"Yes! Those people were just pitiful creatures. I only wanted to eliminate those who might turn into Zombies before the Zombie Virus spread, and take care of the Zombies as well," he said with a hint of pride in his tone.
"You! Beast!" Tears streamed down Wang Qi's face uncontrollably, his hands trembling. His right hand gently pushed aside the protective cover of a red button, shaking as he tried to press it.
"Don't rush. Even if you kill him, it won't matter; he's just a Puppet," Zheng Yifan said calmly.
This Fellow was merely a messenger; he wore an earpiece that allowed him to hear commands from others in the defensive structures behind him.
Those Big Shots would never put themselves in such a dangerous position. They had their own Puppets.
These people performed so vividly that they could express all their master's words and emotions accurately.
This person was clearly an actor; he would convey any actions from those behind him even more vividly.
"Why do you have to resort to Killing! Why! Those people were just innocent ordinary citizens; they should have been able to survive, just like I did!" Wang Qi shouted loudly, crying as if he had countless grievances to express.
"Killing? Of course, it's about killing. Haven't you heard that line of poetry? To kill one is a crime, to slaughter thousands is to be a hero. Slay nine hundred thousand, and you become the greatest of heroes. If I want to be a hero, I'm still far from it! Hahaha!" A series of loud exclamations reflected the attitude of the person inside.
Outside, the Puppet show was performed vividly, driving Wang Qi almost to madness.
"Tap tap tap!" The sound of bullets firing echoed as a barrage of ammunition rained down on the large iron gate.
But this was utterly useless; the enemy wasn't even there. They were still behind their internal defenses.
In fact, that large gate was like a bomb. It was hard to break from the outside, but with the press of a button from within, it would explode in an instant.
Zheng Yifan also had his reasons for not wanting to go over. Otherwise, being caught off guard like this would leave him looking foolish even if he wasn't injured.
"I'll show you what it means to be the greatest! Don't you know that place is filled with ordinary citizens? Don't you realize many people's loved ones live there? That's a bustling area, the most densely populated place, where the most lives are at stake. Yet you've wiped out all hope! All of it!" Wang Qi had lost it; he was truly mad. That silly, carefree Wang Qi had finally gone insane.
His family was there—his parents who had raised him for over twenty years. His beloved, whom he had never confessed his feelings to but had quietly admired from afar.
But now, everything was gone. (To be continued...)
