The spaceship glided smoothly through the air, the scenery outside crystal clear. Zheng Yifan could comfortably lean back in his chair behind the control panel and sip on some juice. However, Ten Thousand Steps, his companion, was not so relaxed. His legs were deeply embedded in the control console, and his face was filled with tension.
This was his first time piloting a spaceship for a long journey. Previously, he had only taken short flights nearby, reluctant to waste the precious Zombie Crystal s required for each trip. The technology used was cutting-edge, but it still relied on the most basic form of Zombie Crystal s for power. These original Zombie Crystal s had a more stable energy, akin to dormant energy that was difficult to extract but provided consistent stability when in use.
Large vessels like this spaceship required Zombie Crystal s. Fortunately, the Gathering Place had developed a method for rapidly charging Zombie Crystal s. They discovered that concentrating Vital Energy in areas rich with active Vital Energy could enhance the recovery of Zombie Crystal s when placed in a strong magnetic environment. This recovery power could then be transmitted through special channels.
In essence, the intense Vital Energy produced would connect through Zombie Crystal s, and external devices would have receiving units, similar to a Power Plant.
However, practical Zombie Crystal s were somewhat extravagant; only those above Sixth Tier could be reliably converted without energy loss.
This limitation meant that there were only two such facilities within the entire Gathering Place. Therefore, usage was typically frugal, with inspections conducted twice weekly to ensure equipment safety.
Now, under Zheng Yifan's command as he was on official duty, he could freely enjoy flying. It was known that such a large vessel could travel half the distance around the Earth on a single charge, but true charging took over ten hours. Without Zheng Yifan's orders, he wouldn’t have access to such extended charging privileges.
Now it felt liberating to soar freely and even perform tricks.
However, once airborne, the experience wasn’t as exhilarating as expected. After about ten minutes of flight, they had already distanced themselves from Hope Gathering Place.
The spaceship flew at remarkable speed; reaching Ancheng took less than half an hour. Yet along the way, they encountered beasts.
Or rather old acquaintances—those crane-like monsters. Upon seeing the spaceship, they displayed aggressive behavior.
Previously, their broken-down aircraft might have seemed like mere insects to these creatures, but this spaceship was different. Such a large entity warranted their caution. These beings had been unchallenged for quite some time and now disregarded all other life forms as no match for them. Seeing the spaceship prompted them to collectively attack.
They must have faced large enemies before because they coordinated their assault on the spaceship with precision. Two cranes flew to the flanks and attacked with their long beaks.
Zheng Yifan was eager to test the spaceship's offensive capabilities.
He found himself utterly bored at the control panel.
"Ten Thousand Steps, grant me attack permissions." Zheng Yifan requested, knowing that the main controls of the ship were still in Ten Thousand Steps' hands.
"Perfect timing to test the attack devices." Without hesitation, Ten Thousand Steps pressed several buttons. The control panel in front of Zheng Yifan was fully activated, and all functions were online.
Zheng Yifan wasted no time and pressed a few buttons, watching as a series of attack weapons emerged on the front of the ship.
At the forefront was an Energy Cannon.
This was a creation developed by the Superpowered Individuals in Hope Gathering Place. They had opted not to use close-range cannons because their ammunition was limited; it couldn't be fired continuously. The Energy Cannon, however, utilized Vital Energy, which Zheng Yifan could also contribute.
Thus, when Zheng Yifan activated the Energy Cannon, its power became terrifyingly amplified. His Power of Faith and Vital Energy surged into it instantly.
The Light Fist on the Energy Cannon turned red, and a wave of formidable and dangerous energy surged forth. Zheng Yifan aimed at the cranes and pulled the trigger decisively.
With a crackling sound, wild electrical energy burst forth around him, followed by a beam of light striking the cranes.
In an instant—truly just an instant—the two cranes opposite him were vaporized.
"Wow! I used to think they were fierce. I didn't dare provoke them, but turns out they're just this weak," Zheng Yifan remarked helplessly as he looked ahead.
When he had returned to Hope Gathering Place with Ten Thousand Steps, they had encountered these cranes and had fled in panic. But now it seemed they weren't much to worry about after all.
"Boss, please stop saying things like that; it's making me want to die," Ten Thousand Steps replied helplessly. Was this really his Energy Cannon? It looked different; could it be that the ship's flight had amplified its energy?
That was the only explanation he could come up with. He activated another Energy Cannon, this one positioned as the main cannon. He aimed this noticeably larger Energy Cannon at one of the cranes and pulled the trigger forcefully.
There wasn't much of a dramatic display; just a strong stream of energy shot out. The crane barely reacted, charging forward with a Bird Peck attack.
Then they saw the energy stream being split apart by the crane.
The flow of energy was steady, and it took about ten seconds before the crane could no longer withstand it. Then, the crane transformed completely into a roasted chicken.
However, compared to the shot fired by Zheng Yifan, it was like night and day.
"Boss, you have to tell me how you fired that. How can it be so ruthless? Mine feels like a child's water gun!" Ten Thousand Steps was nearly in tears.
The gap between a main cannon and a secondary cannon was simply too vast. He had tested all his weapons before, even using Superpower, but the results were obvious—none were particularly strong.
Others had not arrived yet, but he truly did not know that the power of Superpower could be this significant.
"I just used my own Superpower. I believe the main reason is that your type of Superpower isn't effective. If it's really not working, when you go back, find a few Superpowered Individuals with different attributes and test the power of the Energy Cannon one by one," Zheng Yifan said with a frown; this might be due to his Power of Faith.
But since using Vital Energy proved useful, he believed that switching to some stronger Superpowered Individuals would also yield impressive results.
Next, he activated the close-range cannon. Under the guidance of his Superpower and the enhancement of his strong Power of Faith, it began to slowly power up.
There was no immediate burst of flames; there was a delay of a full second because it was driven by the power of Vital Energy rather than electricity as before. (To be continued)
