Upon truly entering Qianyuan Village, he discovered that everything here was completely different from the outside world—distinct customs, different rules, and he even sensed some changes in the System.
His attacks had begun to carry the System's forced damage. As long as he gained the recognition of the System God, he could truly harness the power of the System in battle.
The power in Zheng Yifan's hands was formidable. It was strong enough for him to feel the presence of the System God, sensing that omnipresent restraint.
This power compelled him to remain silent and cautious; he must not allow himself to become arrogant, for that mysterious force could strike at any moment.
It was as if the Primordial Pearl before him brought about changes that he could not withstand on his own.
Fortunately, this power did not reject him; rather, it stood alongside him, waiting for him to merge with the strength of the Primordial Pearl. Under the protection of the System God, it would form a precise combat capability.
Ahead lay an asphalt road about two meters wide, its surface impeccably clean. Occasionally, he could see hand trolleys moving along the road. Zheng Yifan and Zhang Qiang were walking on foot. Along the way, they observed others moving about, constantly searching for food. They had ventured out of their territory in search of sustenance.
It was a tragic situation because there was little food left in their territory. They once possessed a granary filled with ample supplies.
Yet, from an outsider's perspective, only they knew that all their food had vanished; they were in dire straits.
Now, they were scouring for any available food and resources.
War could erupt at any moment; they were preparing for battle and were unafraid of it. They needed food, so their leader, Old Man Song, had taken over two thousand brothers to go "harvest" from others.
They believed their superpowers were certainly on par with anyone else's—perhaps even stronger—because their superpowers always proved effective. The distance between them and the System God was not too far, ensuring their combat strength.
In truth, they were quite tragic. Initially, they had only chosen to attack a nearby faction. However, who would have known that Totenburg had been incorporated by Zheng Yifan? That place had originally been weak—considered a weakling among Gathering Places. The stronger Gathering Places simply did not want to engage them; after all, defending against walls like theirs was quite troublesome.
Now that Zheng Yifan had taken control, attacking them would only lead to humiliation. Instead, Zheng Yifan aimed to seize their System God and take all the Survivors with him.
Their superpowers, although altered versions of the Primordial Pearl, still proved effective. The Hope Gathering Place needed these talents.
As they continued forward, someone approached to greet them. When they were outside, they would pretend not to know each other, as it wasn't their territory, and a sense of trepidation lingered in their hearts.
"Zhang Tou! Did Song the Boss manage to get any food? I’ve prepared quite a bit of supplies! We’ll finally be able to eat our fill," said a young man pushing a trolley along the road.
His trolley was filled with items scavenged from the ruins—some daily necessities and a heap of miscellaneous goods.
It seemed his haul was meager, mostly consisting of flowers and plants.
"Come on! Even if you complete ten thousand tasks, you still can't exchange for food. The System doesn’t provide food; it simply doesn’t exist. What’s the point of forcing it?" Zhang Qiang replied helplessly to the young man across from him.
The young man wore a faint smile.
"Zhang Tou, I know we can’t exchange for food, but what can we do? Since we can’t get it, we might as well keep doing tasks. You and Song the Boss will handle the food situation. All we can do is work hard on our tasks. Even if I can’t exchange for food, I want to see what that ultimate exchange really is," the young man said.
Zhang Qiang could only shake his head. He waved his hand dismissively, signaling for the young man to move along.
But at the last moment, he gritted his teeth and took out two packs of compressed biscuits from his luggage, tossing them onto the young man's trolley.
"Make them last. I don’t have much food left myself," Zhang Qiang said darkly as he followed behind Zheng Yifan.
Once the young man had walked away, he murmured softly, "I’m sorry. That was your food, but I gave it to someone else." His voice was low, like that of a child who had done something wrong.
"I don’t really mind, as long as you tell me one thing. I’ll promise not to hold it against you and even give you ten more bags of compressed biscuits," Zheng Yifan said with interest.
"What is it? There’s no way I could know anything that interests you," Zhang Qiang replied helplessly. He spoke the truth; given his status and influence, it was difficult for him to know anything that would pique Zheng Yifan's interest while remaining unknown to him.
"I want to know what the forever impossible task is; I'm really curious, haha. After all, I've never heard of any task that can never be completed," Zheng Yifan said half-jokingly.
Beside him, Zhang Qiang let out a bitter laugh, looking at Zheng Yifan with disbelief.
"The forever impossible task is one issued by the System. The task itself is to complete ten thousand tasks released by the System. It's just like those achievement tasks in games, but here, no one completes more than ten tasks. That means it would take at least a thousand times longer, and there really need to be that many tasks to complete."
"In reality, many of the tasks issued by the System God are incomprehensible and cannot be successfully completed. We can only pick out the ones that we can actually finish. Originally, all tasks came with rewards, but now Xi'an A-Zi's rewards are minimal. Doing tasks now yields no benefits, so no one is busy with this anymore. Only that guy keeps insisting on completing this final task; he seems to have some kind of obsession."
Zhang Qiang pondered for a moment, as if he had something on his mind but couldn't articulate it.
After a long while, he finally said, "Actually, we all know why he does it. His father was captured by the powerful Saning City and taken to the Gathering Place as a slave, and there's no way to rescue him. We can protect ourselves well enough; they don't dare attack us. But when it comes to real warfare outside, we don't have that confidence."
Zhang Qiang's bitter words left Zheng Yifan feeling helpless as well.
The Primordial Pearl brought them safety, but when it granted them overwhelming combat power near the Gathering Place, it also restricted them from straying too far from it. Otherwise, their combat power would plummet.
In such circumstances, for Niu to save his father, he could only hope to accomplish it in dreams or find something that would entice the Slave Owner of Saning City into giving up his father.
Unfortunately, he had nothing and could only pin his hopes on this most difficult task. (To be continued.)
