"Wang Yi, let's meet and have a good talk!"
"Sure, let's meet at the restaurant near the school! As long as you dare to come, I have nothing to fear!" Wang Yi replied.
I stood up and walked towards the restaurant.
As soon as I arrived, I saw Wang Yi already seated there. She was wearing sunglasses, making it hard to see her expression.
"Wang Yi, where have you been these days?" I asked as I sat down across from her.
"I've been in the city all along," Wang Yi said, taking off her sunglasses and looking at me coldly.
"Xinran, you really dared to come! Do you know how much I want to get rich? Isn’t it better to keep that desire hidden in your heart?"
"Why must it be spoken out loud? Are you the only good person with a kind heart?"
"You know what my family is like and how I've lived. My mother just endures everything quietly, and my father only drinks and abuses. I've been working like a mule at home since I was little."
"Even coming out for college was something I had to threaten myself with a knife for!"
"Do you think they fear my death? No, they fear that if I die, no one will be there to serve them or earn money for them, no one to pay the bride price for their son!"
"Ah~ right, even though your family consists of just an old person and someone far away, they still love you! How could you understand?"
"I could have made a lot of money through Sister Wang, but it's all your fault for stopping me. Now Sister Wang doesn’t dare come to school anymore, and my dream of getting rich is shattered. So, you have to disappear."
As soon as Wang Yi finished speaking, several burly men surrounded me. Before I could react, one of them covered my mouth and dragged me into a van.
We were blindfolded and couldn't see where the vehicle was headed. The van twisted and turned for about twenty minutes before finally stopping.
When we opened our eyes in the light after removing the black cloth, we found ourselves in a foul-smelling room. In the corner, there were sounds of frightened crying. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I could vaguely see people huddled together in the corner.
The familiar scene reminded me that this was the village where I had been abducted in my past life. It was in this very house that I had endured day and night, consumed by hatred and tormented by those disgusting people. Fortunately, this time I could save myself.
Outside the village, the sound of a car approached.
"The police are coming! The police are coming!" Someone shouted from outside.
Wang Yi suggested to the others that we should rush into the room and take ourselves as hostages. I quickly pressed myself against the door, bracing for impact as it threatened to be broken down. From the corner, a girl covered in blood rushed out and joined me at the door, while other dazed girls gradually gathered around us.
Once the chaos outside settled into silence, I opened the door and stepped into the yard. Perhaps seeing us, the lambs awaiting slaughter, had found a glimmer of hope, those who hadn’t yet been taken away began to struggle violently, trying to escape amidst the confusion.
"Don't move! Everyone get down and cover your heads!"
A volley of gunfire erupted, and everyone crouched down with their heads covered. The police formed a protective wall in front of us; although it was dark, I could see bright moonlight filtering through this barrier.
The abducted university students were also found and brought out. My roommate, Lin Qing, was among them.
After her ropes were untied, Lin Qing rushed towards Wang Yi, grabbing her hair and landing punch after punch on her. I wanted to comfort Lin Qing, but remembering her past praises of Wang Yi, I felt that Lin Qing's attack on Wang Yi was nothing less than her just desserts.
Li Daqiu attempted to hide in a pigsty to escape but was found and attacked with a knife in a desperate bid for freedom, only to be dealt with on the spot.
I had visited Wang Yi in prison; she told me she was wrong and regretted her actions. Looking at her pale and disheveled state, I told her, "Even if you were given another chance to choose, you would still make the same decision. Human nature is inherently good; you are inherently evil. Prison is where you truly belong."
