The owl was sent by Chi Jun to find me. After I eliminated Luo Hailiang's soul fragment, the two of them began searching for my whereabouts.
Since they knew nothing about me, they had only heard my name, Jiang Ling, from a conversation I had with the White Alliance.
During this time, Chi Jun and his companion searched for many young people with the same name as mine, and finally confirmed my location today.
The owl flapped its wings and flew towards where Chi Jun was. It quickly disappeared into the night.
I was completely unaware of the owl's appearance and slept soundly until the next morning when I finally got out of bed.
"That was a great sleep!" I stretched lazily and said happily. After eliminating Wang Lei, I finally had a good night's rest.
I got up, washed up, had breakfast, and headed off to class.
In university, the course discipline is relatively relaxed. Even if you skip classes, no one will bother you. Sometimes, even if you don’t show up for a month, no teacher will notice your absence.
There’s a saying in university: "Elective classes must be skipped; required classes can be chosen to skip."
However, in our major, this isn't the case because we mostly have physical training classes where we constantly spar with each other to improve our skills.
If someone from our major skips class, the teacher will definitely notice. There was a guy who skipped class to go online once, and our teacher stormed into the internet café and beat him up before dragging him to the gym to stand all night.
Since then, everyone in our major has become exceptionally obedient. However, I am different from the others; I have Dean Deng Bo backing me up, so those teachers won’t give me a hard time. More importantly, through these sparring sessions, I’ve earned honor for our academy, and every time those teachers see me, they greet me with smiles.
The first class of Your Majesty was Fundamentals of National Martial Arts, held at the school's Athletic Field. Traditionally, the instructor would lead us professionals in running around the field twenty laps before teaching a few basic moves, allowing us to practice and spar for two hours until class ended.
I stood in line, preparing to run with my classmates to warm up. At that moment, the martial arts instructor, Wang Ke, grabbed my arm and smiled, "Jiang Ling, come here for a moment."
I frowned; it wasn't the first time I had seen that smile on Wang Ke's face. I followed him to the side and said dully, "Teacher Wang, are you setting up another sparring session? Just so you know, I won't hold back. If that person doesn't have any skills, don't let them bother me."
Wang Ke awkwardly scratched the back of his head. He had previously found three promising students he wanted me to spar with and give some pointers on their martial arts.
However, those three were too weak. After exchanging a few moves with them, I could easily gauge their abilities. If I went all out, I could take on all three at once. Wang Ke had arranged one-on-one matches, and as expected, they ended up battered and bruised. They hadn't dared to show their faces in front of me since then.
Wang Ke put his arm around my shoulder and chuckled, "Jiang Ling, don't worry. This time we have students from another school visiting our program. Those schools are our competitors; they're just looking for trouble. You don't need to be polite—just take them down. As long as you don't cripple anyone, it's fine."
"Teacher Wang, what's going on? Why are those students suddenly coming to our school?" I asked with a furrowed brow.
Such inter-school sparring exchanges were tied to the reputation of the schools involved; no one would engage unless they were absolutely confident of victory.
"I did some digging beforehand. It seems that school has recruited several very skilled freshmen this year. They've already visited five other schools and sparred with their freshmen without losing a single match," Wang Ke said as he patted my shoulder with a grin. "Jiang Ling, no matter how strong they are, they won't be your match. If you take them all down, you'll gain some fame for yourself and bring glory to our program."
Upon hearing that it was just against those freshmen, my confidence surged instantly. I thumped my chest and declared, "No problem! As long as they dare to come here, I'll make sure they’re unrecognizable even to their parents."
Wang Ke and I sat down together and exchanged insights about martial arts techniques.
Wang Ke was an academic martial arts expert; while his skills weren't particularly impressive, he possessed extensive theoretical knowledge. Whenever I shared some issues I was facing in my training, he always offered suggestions that left me feeling enlightened.
After more than an hour, a group of over ten students in blue uniforms arrived at the entrance of the Athletic Field, led by a middle-aged man in his forties with a beer belly and a bald head.
"They're here. Jiang Ling, come with me to meet them," Wang Ke said, a glint of determination flashing in his eyes. He wiped the smile off his face and adopted a serious expression as he walked toward the group of outsiders.
"Cai Yanhui, why is it you, the fat one, leading the team this time? Aren't you afraid we'll gang up on you with so few people?" Wang Ke said in a tone that was neither warm nor cold. He had some past grievances with the chubby man before him. However, that was long ago, and they had reconciled in advance, so their relationship was not particularly good but also not hostile.
Cai Yanhui wore a lewd smile on his face and pretended not to hear Wang Ke's words. "Wang Ke, we can be considered old friends. I heard you followed Deng Bo to start a martial arts department, and I was curious, so I came over to take a look. You don't mind, do you?"
"Feel free to watch; it's not like you'll be able to learn anything," Wang Ke replied with the same indifferent expression. He turned around and led Cai Yanhui and his group toward our students.
At that moment, the classmates were already practicing their moves with their partners. The speed of their fighting was not very fast; it looked orderly without any mistakes or standout performances—just quite ordinary.
As the instructor, Wang Ke occasionally chimed in to point out some details for Cai Yanhui. However, throughout it all, Cai Yanhui maintained a grinning expression that seemed particularly insincere.
